    If you sprinkle cinnamon on the seeds they won't grow mould and it doesn't hurt the seeds at all xx

    Seeds that have been heated, or freeze-dried are much less likely to be viable. Hence the everything pretzel seeds and the granola were not viable, but the salsa and lemon water were. Hope this helps you pick your seed sources!

    Most seeds didn’t grow because for instance on the pretzel or the LGM chili sauce they were roasted.

    Absolute amateur here, To give raspberries a better chance of germination, score the surface to mimic the stomach of a bird. Most bramble bushes are supposed to have their berries eaten by birds to spread the seeds, so degradation of the seeds wall is supposed to help them sprout. Keep in mind I do not have very much experience, this is just what I have heard from a few people with more experience than I. Might not work, could be worth a shot! :3

    So you succeeded to grow one actual plant and no actual fruit or anything. Not worth listening to the line about spritzing ten times, but still kinda cool.
    Hmm the successful one didn’t involve spritzing, maybe that’s the key!

    Unfortunately seeds that are pickled, boiled or baked generally do not sprout for most plants. Also I dont know how possible growing hot peppers in canada is lol

    • @lisahoshowsky4251
      @lisahoshowsky4251 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have really diverse growing zones in Canada, everything from 0 to 9, we’re the second largest country so climate and what we can grow can differ a lot. It also depends on what you consider a “hot” pepper. I grow cayennes and jalapeño in zone 5b. My friend is obsessed with peppers and grows tons of different hot types in zone 6!

Dont worry ill do some research on it now! Like where in canada. Thanks for the info! No wonder there are so many gardening pages from canada!

      @@lisahoshowsky4251 unfortunately I do think growing peppers in colder climates does not provide as hot of peppers. I like to grow the uber hot ones, carolina reaper, ghost pepper, dragons breath pepper, and they like HOT soil! Ieven put smallblack pond pebbles over the soil instead of mulch to bring morel heat! Leaves can sometimes get too much sun here in zone 10, but they love the warm soil! I’m growing some varieties from arizona though, those are the real hard ones to grow!!!

    Did the lemon plant actually make it? Curious to see if it would grow into a tree or if it's like other fruit trees where they graft onto other types/varieties of trees for production. This was fascinating though and now I'm curious to try!! Tried it once with pineapple seeds and did not get any to grow 😂

    • @yucol5661
      @yucol5661 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it broke apart during unwrapping 😥. I don’t know if plants can grow if the inside of the seed splits in half. Maybe the smaller growing embryo part of the seed got damaged or lost and only the big green storage part cotyledon was left.

    • @MA-mh1vs
      @MA-mh1vs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They will grow from seed and be a tree. The grafting is done because cloning the trees is the only way to prevent DNA changes due to cross pollination. Unless there was some weird cross pollination with another type of citrus the seed should result in a lemon tree. If it was cross pollinated with something else you could have a new type of citrus.

    So, can I just say this was (ahem)... Awesome sauce?
    LOL
    Hey now that I know the granola has that much mold on it, I'm not ordering that granola ever again.
    Those pumpkin seeds were very likely Kakai pumpkins. (The seeds are shell-less, which means easy money for the industry.)
    If you want to try the granola again, perhaps soak the pumpkin seeds in vinegar for a while, to kill any mold on it. Don't leave it for too long, cuz you don't want to ferment the seed. At least, I think not.
    Another option for growing those same pumpkins is to look for the pumpkin seeds in packets in the snack aisle. Pepitos is what they're called, if I remember right. ONLY the raw seeds. It won't work if they're cooked.
    Jellies and jams are usually cooked-down and also the canning process involves very-high temperatures. It's not likely those seeds will sprout.
    Corn. The corn used in those salsas was picked ripe and cooked fresh. The corn one plants is dried thoroughly. Usually the farmer leaves the stalks in the fields until they're completely dry. That's the corn that's used as feed grain (and corn meal) as well as seeds for planting.
    You might find it interesting to look at planting seeds from various pet foods. Bird food is a great example.
    Lots of bird food is primarily sunflower seeds, millet and I think sesame seeds. (I'm not 100% on that.)
    Whatever's in it... might be interesting.
    What about other foods? Seeds from fig newtons? Granola bars? Oatmeal? Chocolate almonds? Pecan clusters?
    Mustard. The seeds in the mustard might be dill seeds. Read the ingrediments to find out.

    • @ZandiTx13
      @ZandiTx13 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nuts need to be in the shells in order to grow.. and anything cooked won't grow. U can freeze seeds to keep them from going bad but not cooking them.

    • @ZandiTx13
      @ZandiTx13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mustard is made out of mustard seeds and those seeds in Dijon mustard is poppy seed not dill. Too tiny

    • @OhPervyOne
      @OhPervyOne ปีที่แล้ว

      I know that 1st part is not true, @@ZandiTx13, because we had a volunteer pecan tree in our back yard that grew from the compost pile. We never had pecans in the shell.
      And kakai pumpkins seeds are hull-less. If that rule was true, how would that type of (heirloom) pumpkin survive?
      I agree about not sprouting cooked seeds. Those are DOA. I was talking about getting some of the grains in the cereal/oatmeal before cooking.
      So I guess that would rule out fig newtons; I'm not sure about granola bars. I think they're sort-of mixed together and poured into a tray, then cut when dried. (Not sure.)

    • @OhPervyOne
      @OhPervyOne ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah @@ZandiTx13 I agree about the mustard seeds. But hey free dill is not bad.
      LOL
      Actually mustard is made with vinegar, so that means the dill seeds would be pickled thoroughly (fermented), so...
      Wait, I just realized I use fermentation to harvest tomato seeds.
      Hmmm...
