Oliver was always meant to be with hope, not that Liam who always makes excuses when something goes wrong. At least oliver owns up to his mistakes without making any excuses and only tries to move forward by making things right. I have this feeling that hope only wanted liam when she found out that he was Spencer's son. The timeline fits as that's the exact moment when hope fully broke up with Oliver.
