    These kind of videos (also the one from guadalupe) are one of the best in my opinion. Seeing pro-level guys like Damo struggling makes me be more patient and keep motivation high. It's easy to just come to youtube once you are nailing it and show how good you are. Thanks for sharing!

    Hey Guys, just got a used KT DFly 8’2, now looking for a foil. Really appreciate all that you guys have shared over this last year. I was so worried that I was going to be too light for it at 160lbs. I just tried a friends 7’6 gong air for flat water start, and although I couldn’t get up I was so happy that my sup downwind and surf sup experience allowed me to just paddle and not fall.

    I have a tip I learned in Mexico this winter wing foiling in the salt and waves for the first time: I usually wear polarized glasses on the water which takes the glare off the water, BUT it also makes it harder to see the surface of the waves and gauge height board off the water and see wave faces.. Took them off and it made a big difference reading the water. I stopped breaching as much mainly but also was able to find and stay on the best parts of the wave..

    Those tips are all spot on! I always find it was easier to paddle out until you see the bumps actually going downwind, then keep going for another minute or two. It's typically about 1km offshore. And as you say, don't afraid of volume and length, my board is 1.45x my weight and I'd consider myself an advanced+ paddler.

    Many reasons to paddle further out for sure! Paddling out farther as a beginner helps you get a better angle with the bumps, and also allows you more time to struggle to get up which usually you driving in loosing ground
    before getting up and cutting out and when you do get up you will still be in better bumps that are more aligned with the run, as you get in closer usually the bumps wrap into shore marking it even harder.

    Great vid ,spot on at least you guys have the guts to tell the hole truth!!
    I struggled ,tested gear invested ….but nothing worked …..
    I am 57 years old I can take off almost at anything except flat water that I never tried and never will
    My best score is 700 meters ride …….
    All these that you describe in this vid comes to a very short description……
    You have to be young and very very fit !
    That’s all I quit some time ago for me there is no meaning to do a 4 km run with 15 take offs and definitely I have no time and will to train and get fiscally to what it takes to achieve this 😢
    I admire and envy youngsters that can do it but for most off as mare mortals that live in the real world and came to an age it is an illusion……

I weigh 190 with my wetsuit. Was thinking in the 120 L range? I really like the Starboard Ace (7'4 120 L 21 1/2 wideI have been foiling for a good 4 years and used to SUP alot. Nice video!
    You talk about using big foils, but the Razor Pro 975 isn’t that big if you compare with what alot of people are recommending for DW beginners, e.g. Axis ART PRO 1201 or 1401. That makes me consider the new Leviathan Pro at ~ 1260mm width and 13 AR (but still 17mm thick). What do you think?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Razor 980 and 975 have a better low end than most 1300 cm2 out there, that's why it works so well for downwinding while being super turny/playful because of its size. Yes the Leviathan Pro 1160 and 1260 should be pretty good for downwinding too! We will have them at wingfoilprocenter.com as soon as they come out!

    Great tips. Be calm, chase behind
    the bigger bumps, slow is fast, speed is out to sea and riding in to shore slower. I disagree about foils, foils do matter! And if you can’t stand on your board, you ain’t foiling 🤣🤙🏻

    Is the HA ratio important? Does a 1100 or 1400 ( in my case seven seas of f one) with HA ratio of 8 work? Or is HA 10 with 1600 or 1900 better (e.G. f one jam)? Thanks!

    • @aschwa5
      @aschwa5 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The speed of the bumps THEORETICALLY should dictate the foil. That is, the faster the bumps, the smaller / more HA the foil you will want to use. Eventually. Because it doesn't matter if you can or can't match the speed of bumps if you can't paddle up the foil. After a 1700 sqcm foil I tried to jump to the art pro 1201 at 1300. Way too big of a jump for me. Went back to the hps 1050 at 1500, which is relatively low aspect, but one I can actually count on to paddle up. I love the 1050 and have been using it for months now. Not in a rush to explore the 1201. Downsize slowly and with caution, and don't fear low aspect, because they're turnier and slower can be an asset. AR 8 is great, AR 7 is heaven 🤣

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes for bigger sizes, like more than 1300cm2 it's better to keep the aspect ratio lower, like around 8. High aspect is nice on smaller foils because they will still turn nicely, but a big foil with a high aspect ratio is only ideal for flat water pumping.
