Building The Remote Control Model Yacht Reliance

- This has been the building of my scale model
Reliance.
She is the pride and joy of my model fleet so far.
The only project that even compares in my mind is
my Eagle Scout project.
I will be uploading a video soon that has this
portion of video and a portion of the sailing; as well
as a video of just the sailing.
Maiden voyage to come soon.
All together the build has taken me about six
months of working about 5 hours a week.
The Dimensions:
LOA = 5'
LWL = 3'
Beam = 8"
Draught = 7"
Sail Area nearly 2 square yards
Ballast = 3.5 Kg or 7.71lbs of Lead
She has a collapsable mast and rigging system so
she can easily be transported in a normal sized car
with a back seat or trunk.
I want to thank a list of people:
Dr. M. Edmondson - all your financial help, and
encouragement along the way has been more of a
help than you will ever understand.
Chris & Shari Hall - you both have been very
supportive throughout the whole build.
Connor Hickman - your company while working late
at night with classes in the morning was a bigger
help than you understand.
Clara Sweet - your attention to detail, company late
at night, and words of encouragement made
building this "friendship boat" all worthwhile.
There are many many more people who have
helped in little ways that I cannot name them all, I
just want to say thank you to everyone who has.
I hope that the video of her maiden voyage doesn't
take me too long to upload, I will have it up as soon
as possible.
Disclaimer: I do not claim to own, or have performed
any of the music in this video. All songs in this video
are of someone else's creation and are listed as
follows:
Two Steps from hell - Enigmatic Soul
Stevie Nicks - Edge of seventeen
Tom Rundgren - Bang on the Drum All Day
The Kinks - You really got me
Cascada - Every time we touch
They are credited with their work and I do not claim
any ownership to it. It is simply the music I have
selected to be the background for my video.
Great job! Thanks for posting.
Well done Sir, very entertained and curious about your current projects!

J Class, mighty boats!
Loved your awesome video.. Hated the noisy music.
All the work you put into this nice boat and you didn't completely fair the hull? Do you not own sand paper and sanding sealer? Michael
El barco es magnífico, así como la realización del proyecto!!! Donde se podría conseguir un plano del Reliance?
We're halyards in side the mast and winches be low deck
Nice build man I'm lifting some lines from a Dragon-keeled yacht. It's going to be a sit-in model where you sit in it and it sits in the water. I consider it a model still. What the heck, better than a kayak anyway.
How difficult was it to pull the lines and run them through the software? I need to figure out how floaty it will be along with the ballast necessary. Took a boat-making class in high school when I was young, the best class I ever took. Perhaps I'll Do a youtube on my piece of driftwood.
Thanks,
Dear Randy Slye, I desperately apologize, I didn't mean to remove your comment, I meant to reply to your comment. If your son is looking for an RC boat to build this is a beautiful model and a great sailor, if he's looking for more of a simple pond toy, I would suggest something like a "footy" they are smaller less intricate models that can me set to go in a straight line and tied to a fishing line so that when they reach the other side of the pond they can be reeled back in.
i would absolutely love if you gave me a link to a website where i could buy the internal mechanisms which pull the ropes and control the steerage or told me where i could buy the mechanisms from you
Am wondering how I could get a copy of those plans?!
I'd have smoothened the hull a lot more before finishing, far too rough,
Wow at the age of 17?
I think it's "bowSPRIT", one word, not SPIRIT. Thanks for posting.
how is the song called?
