That was a Brilliant piece of education , he set a great example in answering all your questions in a friendly manor instead of calling the police like many jobsworth do.
@@chriscurtain1816 There are sometimes chemicals such as Ferric Sulphate dosed into the sewage to help with the removal of Phosphate, but not all the time, and only in very small doses when it is. But you're right, there are more chemicals used in the treatment of clean water for drinking, namely Chlorine.
As much as people ring to complain about bad interactions, I hope they also get involved in the good side. This guy went out of his way and should be rewarded by his company.
What a brilliant guy, he took time out not only to educate you but also all us lot (viewers) who know nowt about what goes on in these places behind the scenes, its nice to know that its the natural bugs that do most of the work in cleaning up our sewage and water ways, top notch stuff ;-)
Lived next door to a sewage plant for 50 years, never ever thought off asking how it all worked, 100% to the treatment plant engineer for all that information, brilliant video, only disappointment was ,you were both talking a load off shite, brilliant mate.👍👍
The gentleman was a star . nice one DJ I like sewage works as they are good for birding .the only concern is when the unlawfully allow untreated sewage into the river system . they can at certain times i believe as its regulated , but they do abuse the system and get fined when they get caught out with testing of the river water.
I once went on a tour of our local sewage works and the finished products were clean water that goes in the river and they dried the solids and pelletised the solids and sold it for manure.
Pelletizing the solids and selling it for manure is not okay since it contains a high amount of heavy metals and of course also lots of bacteria in particular e-coli....and they are not good for you. In civilized EU countries 🤣🤣 the solids are incinerated and the heavy metal containing ashes put in special landfills... Advise... Peeps don't use the de-watered / pelletiesed sludge from municipal waste water plants in your garden.. It's hazardous material.
I beleive there is still solid matter that remains, hence settleing tanks. The cleaned water is run of the sediment and the sediment is processed elsewhere
I work for a Wastewater Treatment company and the lad came across very well and served as good PR for his employer. He was professional, courteous, knowledgeable and helpful in answering your questions. However, he WILL end up getting a slapped wrist and emails WILL now be circulated around all employees in his company (name of company easily distinguishable on van) reminding them all that access gates onto sites MUST be kept closed at all times. Security of these sites is taken seriously by management (We are required to lock our gates even when the sites are manned).
This is the type of videos I love !! Good education and knowledge to take away and share with friends !! The videos with kick offs and bad staff are fun and a good giggle, but personally I love it when someone teaches me something new.
What a nice engineer. Just shows you how many educational conversations are out there to be had. Keep up the good work, I hope you're being suitably rewarded.
Hope this guy gets to read all the compliments. If he does he will know we all appreciate your professionalism and the great job you do. It's only when you live through a civil disaster that you get to realise what stars these guys are. I live in Christchurch NZ and our sewage systems got trashed in the earthquakes we had. There were guys working 24 hrs 7 days to get everything back up and working. Standing chest deep in treches in the worst possible . Amazing knowledgeable and much appreciated. I used to go down and hand out goodies to the ones in my road. Thanks mate to you and DJ for highlighting them.

part of my class 2 fitters course I did in the Army involved water treatment and sewage works. in '96 I ended up "down south" as we called the Falkland Islands, and I was one of the team of Fitters, Sparkies and Plumbers that were put on the RESF team which would take over from Turners running the power station, sewage works and water treatment plant if the Argentinians tried to take the islands again. we had to visit the various facilities and they saved the best until last: the poo factory! we got a tour around, the worst bit was going up the aerator and macerator. It stank to high heaven and one of the blokes that worked there had clearly gone nose blind: he was stood on the walkway that went over the top drinking a brew and eating a sarnie!
The bed of pebbles you walked on at the start is part of a Trickling Filter system that when in operation will have had settled sewage sprayed over the pebbles. So perhaps you should get some domestos on your shoes.
Had a chat with a bloke who empties septic tanks around our area (Queensland, Australia)and he said that the biggest problem at the treatment plant was torn up sheets which people are using as toilet wipes. I recall an interview with a worker in London who said that stockings were bad because the mesh caught on the bricks.
I sincerely hope that the water company appreciate this guy, because he’s a credit to the company. A lot of other companies could learn a lot from this type of pleasant interaction. 10/10
The White Van Man knows his stuff, what an education and very keen to share it when asked. Well done that man, another great vid. The song on the vid during the drone scene, are they singing, "Job, Job Jobby...Jobbies. Jobbies, do you want me, Jobbies"? Sounds like it. 🤣
The very same bugs (bacteria) that keeps aquariums clean, the "aeration" by bubbling water breaks the surface and adds way more surface area of the water to contact the air which adds more oxygen. A marvelous natural way to keep aquariums clean
Love your audits, DJ, they’re always extremely professional. One question that I’m sure has come up before, do you plan on changing your video titles at all? I understand the current format pulls more views but it would be nice to be able to look back through and understand where you’ve been as it’s not obvious as it stands. Maybe keep the current titles for 48h before updating them to something more informative.
Hi, the titles will never change, sorry. I do add the location Tag into most of the videos so just search for the place and it becomes clickable on any video done there.
Hey DJ, you could have called in for a cuppa, I'm not too far away from there lol. What an amazing informative audit. I really enjoyed this. It's amazed me that they didn't use chemicals, just a naturally occurring process. So looking forward to the next audit
This really was a great video and a nice bloke you spoke to.. come one here to watch a video about exercising our rights and have learned what happens to our poo but genuinely great content again DJ

All the ones I worked at were live. I remember the flotation filter tanks at Rugby or somewhere ( cant remember the name)were covered in spider webs and the spiders were absolutely huge.
Nice guy, the bugs he was referring to are microbial bugs you wouldn't even see them with the naked eye let alone David 😂 those bugs that supposedly clean the water only do a small job at doing so... they also produce a chemical waste compound after eating the bacteria. Similarly to the way a fish tank filter works, its basic
