- Oh hey it's a long video finally and I have so many updates to show you 😀
I've been feeling my annual summertime plant fatigue this month and after taking a week off of YT I realized I was finally coming out of the houseplant funk when I found myself missing my anthuriums badly even though they'd been literally a few feet away from me that whole time go figure

Hi Alvin, I am so utterly impressed by your deep knowledge of Anthuriums and the way you explain all their different features and from which spieces or hybrid they're coming from.
I learn so much from each of your video's, thank you so much 😘💚🌱🤗
And your plants are just 💥
Oh that crystal lux is stunning. Love those pillowing leaves.
Your scalprum is beautiful Alice. I love it.
Very well done,,keep digging
Can’t wait for a repot and chat. They are so fun.
The new camera with the gimbal on it is a fantastic camera. The video is great.
Loved your energy in this video!
Glad you’re feeling better Alice! Thanks for plant updates!
Oh and I can’t stand the thought of summer ending. Rain, rain, and more rain to come.
I love the rain Lisa 🥹🥹
missed you last week!
LOVE your new camera. I am super prone to motion sickness watching walk around videos and sometimes have to skip the section all together if it’s too much moving around. Looks great thank you so much!!
I just found spider mites for the first time in my plant room on a Verrucosum i received a month ago. I used a mix of Peppermint Castile, Tea Tree Castile, peroxide and alcohol. So far so good but my heart dropped when I seen them. I don’t let my plants touch but I’m still checking everything daily. I I keep the humidity in my room between 65-75% so I was waiting for it to happen. Haha, I am also going to have to expand shelving units because I have run out of room.
I ordered a TC of Ace of spade a few months ago and I don’t know what happened but it has never grown good. It finally lost all of its leaves so I have put it into your tree fern fiber mix “recipe” so, now it’s a wait and see game and I hate waiting🤣
So jealous of all the pesticides yall have in america+north america, over here in europe basically everything is illegal im on 8 months on dealing with thrips🥲, spidermites i feel i can kill in 2 weeks easily haha🤠💕
Hi! How do you kill spidermites in 2 weeks easily? Thank you!!
Idk why but whenever I watch your videos, even when I am not suppose to do plant chores, I just start doing some. I was working when I started watching and before the video ended, I boat mode-d one anthurium 😂
Yeah Alice!! Thrips suck. Your anthuriums are sizing up so nicely!!! Can’t wait to hear more about your bread and pasta journey
The target clear garbage bins!!! They’re so good
This plant 40:38 is stunning. So big and those leaves 💋
The black widow x michelle looks UNREAL! ❤❤❤
I understand. I mean who wants bugs in their collections especially bad ones. I always said Thrips like to play mario cart on my leaves since they leave the craziest race tracks😂😂
Rainbow road 😂😂
@@youdontevengrowhere 🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣
😂😂😂
Look at the lobes on your plant. The diabloense
That chore video with you and peepee (or poopoo?) is such a great idea. helping eachother with the hard chores.
Your new mic is so cool and looks so easy to use too! Can't wait to see how your new vlog camera serves you!
Regarding thrips, I’ve found Bios Nutrients Pest Spray works well! I like the fact it’s organic and pet safe too. I find if I spray them once a week it keeps the nasty bugs away 🐛
You said flat of eggs and I thought of scrambled eggs. Lol 😂
That’s a great idea. I’d love to watch the three of you getting together. Next to watch you take care of someone’s problem. Id find it very interesting.
I love seeing red, veiny leaves. I’m into the spider look. Red crystallinum, the silver blush, the doriaki. All my favorites to see.
I can’t get my hands on the bonide systemic here in BC Canada so no worries there! Lol
I use bonide. No spider mite issue and it kills everything else. You can use a miticide or something else with your plants as a preventative. I've seen the occasional spider mite on new plants, but I've had no outbreaks and any outbreaks are likely not related to bonide.
I use bonide and purecrop 1 or bonide and the 3 in 1 bio something spray, which includes a miticide.
Best spider mite treatment for me was insecticidal soap. I tried azamax, beneficials, jacks, etc. The insecticidal soap did no damage, and worked great. I do a preventative spray for all my plants every couple months now and no issues. Safer 5118-6, specifically. I used 9ml per 16oz spray bottle. Added benefit is it cleans your leaves. I don't even wipe it off after.
That luxury leaf is heart shaped.
Thrips 😢😢
Ugh
Those annoying things
I had to get rid of my dear dioscorea elephantipes
The thrips loved the leaves 😢
Every time it would grow a new vine
It’s like 🎉🎉🎉party time 🎉🎉
Omg That red crystallinum is finally producing a whole leaf yay 🥳
Must be so proud of yourself ❤
Oh noooo did you have to get rid of the whole thing or just cut off all the foliage?! I love the turtle caudex 😭
Hi Alice. You should try a systemic with acephate as the active ingredient. In my opinion is the one thing that gets rid of most pests.
Acephate? Available in the UK
I’m going to IAS for my birthday!!
Ooh I love the veins in that forgettii leaf.
alice the antherium queen.
That kos is stunning !!!
Yes I think it looks like it’s pollinated.
Ugh, I am currently dealing with a large thrips infestation 😢. You are very positive about it. Thank you!
Yaaaa I'm so glad to see a new video!!!
Did some of the seeds on that inflo have bugs that could have eaten through the berries to the seeds? I don’t even know if there is such a bug
@youdontevengrowhere Why don’t you get the predatory mite special blend and get live and sachets then start to breed your own ? I started doing that a year ago I keep one Petrie dish in my tent and cabinet and also take out and distribute on other plants. It’s so easy and doesn’t take more space than a few Petrie dishes. The special blend works on many pests. Prevention is much easier
I literally just got random thrips on my monstera so I can relate 😂
My very common “grocery store” anthurium has a baby plant growing way low on the stem at ground level. How would you separate it from the mother. I posted a picture of in it, if you want to see it.
I feel THE SAME about summer. And particular this summer! As if i got away too easy and that makes me even more anxious.. what is wrong with me?? 😂
ALVIN!!! 😂
Just had spider mites. I didn’t even know til I saw webbing
Is the palm street live posted anywhere?
It’s showing up faint pink.
Love your videos!
I am wondering if you can do a video about Pon (Lechuza or own made). It usually says that provides nutrients for about 4-6 months, but what I should do after that? Throw it away and buy/make new one? Mix Osmocote and still using it? I think nobody has done a video like that.
Use a fertiliser that says it's for semi hydro and use a much smaller amount than recommended every watering. The Fertiliser in leutueza PON wears off after about 6 months. DIY PON obviously doesn't have any in, unless you put some in.
Or you can repot into bigger pots and use osmocote
I found a phyton 27 on. Amazon. Would that be it?
Every video I make is “go with the flow” I cannot expend more energy than that on YT. 😅
Spinosad and imidacloprid isnt available in the UK. I mean the only one I could find for spinosad is £53 for 30ml. Imidacloprid is only available for flea treatment, and is banned for plants. Neem is banned in UK but still available to buy online, strangely. I wanted to find spinosad for a reasonable size and price. I have a thrips outbreak and want something stronger than neem or provanto
All three pest treatments in one day!?!
All in one day 😂
Thrips are the bane of my existence 🥲🥲🥲 a year of dealing with them non-stop. & spidermites joined the party this summer too 💀
Noooo Shelby ☹️☹️☹️ are you able to get your hands on some spino over there?
Oh ugh! 😢 Hang in there!
4:09 The way you feel about spidermites I feel about thrips… it’s been 3-4 months and I am still trying to get them under control here…. I’m tired and I threw away a few plants and cut the rest (by a few I mean like 10-15 all together) because I just couldn’t keep treating so many 😂😢😢
I would probably be chucking plants out too!!! 😭
If you can get beneficial bugs against thrips…
They get rid of them in a few overlapping rounds
Make sure the beneficials never die off and order a new batch in time
(My local seller said every 6 weeks, but in my conditions it was about every 3-4 weeks, it is different for everyone)
If the beneficials are present on all your plants for 2 months the thrips should be gone or almost gone
Also thrips like to hide in the places of the plant where the leaves came out
@@Wubblyt Thanks, yes I am doing beneficials but I could only get cucumeris (swirskii are really hard to get and too expensive) and the black thrips are very smart, they hide in the soil and moss. I changed a few plants to semi-hydro but the moss poles are still a nice hiding place and I can’t change that. I’m getting the new cucumeris next week, I haven’t given up yet, but I really wish we had some stronger insecticides in Europe at this stage….
@@matejasvonja3440 Cucumeris should work, right?
Even if the larvae that they eat crawl into the moss, the predatory mites can as well. You do have a larger surface area to deal with 🤔
I think the ban on a lot of pesticides/systemics is to protect the bees?
But bees don’t go indoors 😂 so it would be nice to be able to use them for houseplants….
Then again if they work, people would use also them in their backyard and some people put their houseplants outside in the summer 🤔
Oh well
Anyway I hope you’ll get rid of them soon!
@@Wubblyt Yes that’s what I’m hoping for the cucumeris to do, honestly they have been everywhere and it was nice to see them “work” 😂😂
I understand why they got banned, but since I started this hobby I can see pests differently than before and I can understand the other pov a bit better.
Thanks for trying to help, I hope they work eventually, too, 🤞🏻🤞🏻I’ve never looked forward to winter as much as this year 🥲🤣
HII, I FOUND ANTHURIUM LIQUID FOOD, DO YOU USE ANY? IM LEARNING SO MUCH FROM YOU THANKS
❤
I’m fighting thrips right now, but we can’t use pesticides in Sweden 😭 legally the only thing we can use is soap/ neutral oil or beneficial insects. Neem oil is forbidden too, but we can still buy it.
So Thrips is pain to get rid of 😭😭😭
That’s rough if all you’re allowed to use pesticides. The beneficials are so expensive. If I were able to get neem oil I’d sure use it with peppermint soap and throwing in some alcohol to boot. It’s like throwing the kitchen sink at the pests
I’d stock up on neem oil once you can’t get it some day.
@@lisaanglim9588 they sell Neem oil for skin care purposes, so we all buy it and use it anyway, but the swedish chemicals agency clearly states that Neem oil is forbidden to use as a pesticide on plants. If it was that dangerous for us, how can they still sell it for skin care use? For outside plants it can be harmful for pollinators.
Beneficials can get rid of them completely…
Just make sure they are on all the plants and don’t die off, order a new batch in time
Thrips should be extinct or almost extinct in 2 months
I faced the same problem, all those systemics that the internet recommends aren’t allowed in western Europe
I tried to remove the thrips manually and with neem for half a year
When I tried the beneficials I waited too long with the second batch so the thrips resurged. It took a few overlapping batches for me to get rid of the thrips.
Im still using them every other month or so as a preventative, its expensive but I never want those thrips back 😅
Woah neem is forbidden too? I wonder why since it's not a chemical
How come you don’t trim off that leaf that had a hole in it? You have a brand new leaf that’s beautiful.
How come you don't just be quite and stop posting so much 🙄
@@randimayes560 don’t read it if it bothers you
@@randimayes560 rude
I got an ikea milsbo cabinet what lights do you recommend for it?
Can’t go wrong with barrina t5’s in warm/yellow!
@@youdontevengrowhere thank you! Is there anything else I’d need for it? I know you have weather strips. Maybe heat pads?
You need at least two small computer fans. Yes on weather-stripping. Lots of good videos on it. goodluck!
@@ttschrock7126 thanks I saw some but wasn’t sure what was necessary vs specific needs to their plants.
Barrina!
I so wanted to like capt Jack brew, but I don't like that product, it does not work longterm. Neem oil is also a waste or money.
:D
too many plants bruh hah
