    The biggest difference, Book Euron makes Show Euron look like a disney princess.

    • @shytguy
      @shytguy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I'm ready to see euron sail into battle with warlocks at his sides conjuring up a massive storm and completely fucking up danys fleet with his magic and then I can see him capturing either yara/asha or theon and tying him to the prow of his ship. Honestly I rather it be asha yara who gets captured, I don't wanna see theon captive again. It would be cool if he gets the warlocks of qarth, melissandre, and some septons all decorated around his ship. I really hope they show they're psycho euron is next season, and just how devious and mad he is.

    • @sharilshahed6106
      @sharilshahed6106 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If comparing "show Euron" to anything Disney, he comes off as Jack Sparrow. Albeit villanous, and more R rated.
      Don't read the book but if the above reply is correct, that's pretty much a stress, even for the series for a character to have such powers but interesting as well. But I prefer the show version whose much more of a badass normal tactician and fighter.

  • @DandyCreature
    @DandyCreature 7 ปีที่แล้ว +111

    I think the difference in characters' ages is worth mentioning. It makes some of the stuff that happens even more creepy/disturbing. Like Dany is only 13 when she marries Khal Drogo and Jon and Robb are both 14 in the first book...

    • @big_tyler_m
      @big_tyler_m 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      they had to change that because the show would not be allowed to air with 13 year old rape

    • @DandyCreature
      @DandyCreature 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree it was a necessary change, but it still definitely impacts the story!

    • @ieatpanadol1548
      @ieatpanadol1548 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      never knew that, that is serious impact to story. But I don't think that same guy who pretend raped a 13 year old would be talking to fish and earning bucketloads for a piece of shit company.

    • @lacien5624
      @lacien5624 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      In the books, Dany and Drogo's wedding night didn't have any rape, though. But then again, the age difference was probably still necessary to get anything like that on air.

    • @Unfiltered494
      @Unfiltered494 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The thing is that with all the kids starting out much older, the difference gets even bigger as the actors grow up faster than their characters. I had to cringe when I saw 17 (or so) year old Sophie Turner act in a scene made for a 12 year old, when she gets her first period. Or when the really visibly feminine body of Maisie Williams was still supposed to make us believe she could pass for a boy.

    You guys clearly googled shit about the books instead of reading them, and even then you didn't look more than 5 minutes. To any book readers this sounds pretty damn ridiculous, but you aren't book readers so you think that passed as acceptable. Sigh. There are many much more significant changes.
    -Aegon Targaryen is around and invading Westeros. Kind of significant.
    -Davos is searching for Rickon who is on an island of cannibal unicorn riders.
    -Arianne Martell is in the books. She's princess or Dorne.
    -Quentyn is the in books and gets burned up by Rhaegal. Whoops
    -Sansa is in the Vale and set up to marry Harry the heir. Littlefinger is still using her as a pawn.
    -The north actually fucking remembers.
    -Manderly is a big part of the books and fucking awesome. He bakes Freys into pies.
    -Jaime is totally over Cersei and abandoned her to be fucked up by the church because he's totally cool now. Also, he never goes to Dorne cause fuck that shit.
    -Oberyn's wife is cool. She's thoughtful and wants no revenge.
    -The Faceless men are actually good at assassination, not incompetent fucks who chase people through the streets and can't even stab right. There are also more of them than Jesus and annoying blonde.
    -The Stark kids are all wargs. They all connect with their wolves (except poor Sansa who has none)
    -Grenn, Pyp, Stannis, Marcella, Jojen, Selyse, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, Doran, Trystane, Meryn Trant and more are still alive.
    -The Unsullied don't suck at fighting.
    -Everyone is much younger.
    -Euron is like if Ramsay had world conquering ambitions and crazy magic.
    -Victarion and damphair are in the books. The Greyjoys are more significant in general.
    -Loras isn't some gay stereotype who gets imprisoned for being gay. He's the best fighter in Westeros and the faith doesn't give a shit that he's gay.
    -Magic is a much bigger part of the story. The show got rid of 98% of it cause it's lame like that.
    -There's much more backstory. The show has an aversion to flashbacks, so you don't get to know the context of events. The books gives you a sense of history repeating itself.
    -Tyrion does some real asshole shit in the last book and goes through a much darker period.
    -Cersei completely loses her mind. As in, she's schizo or something. She isn't gonna use wildfire as a clever way of eliminating the people taking power of her. She''s gonna do it in some batshit way that destroys the entire city.

      Varys kills Ser Kevan Lenister ( Brother of Tywin Lenister, father of Lancel Lenister) by crossbow because he almost fixes the kingdom.
      Gilli´s baby is at the wall. She has the son of Mance the raider.
      Samwel, Gilli, Master Aemon and "little Sam" were first at Bravos. There master Aemon dies. And then they went to the old town, where Sam supposes to learn how to be a master.
      Also, Samwel meets Arya in Bravos.
      Tyrion's way across the see to essos was totally different in books.
      Jorah Mormont doesn´t have a Grayscale. It actually happens to a mercenary called Griff (the guy who took over a young Aegon Targaryen)
      Yara/Ahsa Greyjoy is a prisoner of Stanis Baratheon. They never meet in a show (i think).
      Ramsay Bolton actually cuts Theon several fingers off, he also breaks him his teeth. Ramsay also compels Theon to lick his new wife pu**y because it was "dry as an old bone."

    Biggest difference? They literally left out 80% of great characters, Arianne Martel, Victorian greyjoy, Young griff aka fake aegon, Jon connington, darkstar, etc. So many great plot lines left out which would have made the show amazing.

    Best Changes
    + Everyone Aged up
    + Cersei and Robert scene
    + Arya and Tywin
    + Tyrion reaches Dany quicker
    + More time on non POV characters like Bronn, the Hound, Tywin and Olenna
    + Mance Rayder dies and avoids the nonsensical Winterfell stuff
    + Hardhome
    + Don't add twelve new storylines after Storm of Swords. This far into the story we didnt need another king
    + Actually probably finishing the damn story lol
    Worst Changes
    - Stannis butchered
    - Dorne butchered
    - Jaime butchered post season 3
    - Characters forced into "hero" or "villain" roles rather than morally grey. Jon doesnt swap Gilly's baby, Tyrion kills Shae in self defence. etc
    - Ramsay being overpowered af. Twenty Goodmen my ass. The plot gave him so much shit on a platter

    Robb wasn't in love with Jeyne Westerling, he took her virginity and then felt compelled to matty her.
    Talissa Maegyr wasn't lowborn. She was a noble girl in Volantis, the greatest of the Free Cities.
    I don't think Lady Stoneheart will appear. At least I don't see it happening the way it happened in the books, since Beric Dondarrion is still alive and Catelyn's body must be seriously rotten.

    Arya is a very powerful Skin Changer in the books . Much stronger than Jon . While Jon can't link to Ghost when he tries too , if they are a few days journey apart . She wargs her direwolf who is in the Riverlands almost every night in her sleep , with out even knowing it . She starts this when she returns to the Riverlands . Starting when she is a few days journey from her wolf . However she keeps right on doing so almost every night . Not just in other parts of Westros , she even keeps it up when she is in Brovos across the freaking narrow sea . She thinks she is just dreaming ! She also has a cat which she 1st linked to in her sleep . She mistakes it for a weird wolf dream . Till the cat sits on her lap while she is blind & she see through its eyes . Then she quickly learns how to use it . Maybe in the next book this is what will be meant if the kindly man says , the girl has skills !

    A pretty solid list but the notable absence of major players in the form of Aegon Blackfyre and Jon Connington are probably #1 for me - they are adding a whole new element to the entire storyline, which will become even more interesting if Arianne does end up marrying fAegon. Also was NOT impressed by the Euron/kingsmoot story this season.

    • @sebastiandiego5905

    • @casonhuffman4466
      @casonhuffman4466 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He's probably a Blackfyre.
      The fact that he was cut out of the show probably means that he's not relevant to the end game of the books. Not to mention all of the hints directly from the books. The mummer's dragon, Varys apparently has Targ blood, the golden company suddenly allying with a Targ after generations of war with them.

    • @samponcho3412
      @samponcho3412 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Cason Huffman You can say that he probably won't be relevant, but do we also thing Doran and Arianne won't be relevant, or that Victarion won't be relevant? The show is moving around them because it has to, because of time constraints. Look at how much more complex the stannis storyline is in the books. I think that just because something won't be important to the show, it doesn't mean it won't be important in the books!

    • @casonhuffman4466
      @casonhuffman4466 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sam Poncho
      Let me explain: When I say "relevant to the end game of the books." I mean actually playing a part in a the finale of the series. I.E: Are they going to actually do anything in the last half of the last book?
      _"do we also think Doran and Arianne won't be relevant, or that Victarion won't be relevant?"_
      Both of these aren't completely cut from the show. Their story arch was just given to different characters.
      Yara (Asha) was given Victarian's story, and Ellaria was given Arrianne's story.
      _"I think that just because something won't be important to the show, it doesn't mean it won't be important in the books!"_
      No, but it can be a good indication. It can be a contributing factor in predicting what happens in the books, because D&D have said that the ending is going to be more or less the same as the books.
      _"Look at how much more complex the stannis storyline is in the books."_
      Being complex doesn't mean it's essential to the end of the series. You really think Stannis and his army are going to still be there in the second half of the last book? Hell, i'll bet you a dollar they all die within the first half of WoW.

    • @samponcho3412
      @samponcho3412 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cason Huffman I agree with everything you're saying. Allow me to rephrase then: Just because a character won't be present at the end of the story, I don't believe it means that they aren't significant to it.

      Taking into account GRRM's declarations, I'd rather say that Shireen will indeed burn... But it won't be by Stannis' orders. I'm fairly sure he won't even be aware of it. After all, Shireen is at the wall with Selyse and Melisandre, and Selyse is a fanatic. I wouldn't put it past her to heed Mel's words and burn her own daughter alive to appease the Lord of Light while Stannis is down south fighting the Boltons. Still, I agree. The show has utterly ruined Stannis.

    Also were is Faegon in this list he is arguably the most important character the show omitted

  • @syd7903
    @syd7903 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    A few of more differences:
    -Euron is actually cool in the books. He wants to use a dragon horn to control Daenerys's dragons and conqueror Westeros.
    -Gendry never meets Melisandre and never goes to Dragonstone. Stannis actually took another of Robert's bastards from Storm's End back in Clash of Kings named Eric Storm.
    -Daenaryes sees some different visions in the House of the Undying during her stay in Qarth. She sees the a glimpse of the Red Wedding, her father giving orders to blow up King's Landing, and her brother Rhaegar with a lady and a newborn baby. She also gets a prophecy.
    -Sam, Gilly, and Maester Aemon go to Oldtown by sea. They stop in Braavos and Sam actually runs into Arya for a minute. Along the way Aemon dies. Jon Snow also has Gilly switch hers and Mance Rayder's baby so Melisandre can't harm it.
    -all the Stark children except Sansa are wargs with their direwolves.

So what makes it more important than Ser Barristan's death or Aegon Targaryen's return (which wasn't even mentioned in this video)?

    • @beenoelani3828
      @beenoelani3828 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I was confused with this being on the list because my interpretation was that Reek was originally Ramsay's servant, Ramsay killed him and assumed his identity when he infiltrated Winterfell, and then after being tortured by Ramsay Theon assumed the old Reek's identity and 'became' him. *Reek, Reek, it rhymes with sneak* etc.

    One of the biggest differences is constantly overlooked.
    Ned Stark doesn't want to become Hand of the King(in the books). He wants to stay at WInterfell but his wife urges him to take the position, especially after the message from her sister. She only changes her mind and wants him to stay at home, after Bran's "accident". But at this Point he's already accepted Robert's proposal and feels bound by honor.So, what everybody very eagerly overlooks is that Cat Stark started the downfall of House Stark and she isn't really a good person.

    They've completely ruined Sansa's character arc, as Alayne she's become more humble and even though Littlefinger ONLY saved her from the Lannisters because she reminds him of Catelyn and for political gain, she's had to dwell in the Vale essentially on her own, she's a bastard and no one really pays her any mind, she's had to distance herself from the girl she once was and is being forced into becoming a strong independent woman WITHOUT having to be tortured by a psychopath, she's slowly becoming more like Margaery and it's very well written.But in the show I find her to be quite smug and annoying, she acts like she's socially and politically more intelligent than others when she hasn't learned anything, she constantly needs people to save her ass. She willingly married into the family that helped kill her mother and brother to avenge them and paid the consequences, if anything she should've learned the hedonic repercussions that come from trying to get revenge but I don't even think she's learned that. She thinks she deserved credit for taking the North when she didn't do anything to get it, except being born with the Stark last name and with good looks that infatuate Littlefinger because she resembles her mother. I feel like she's ONLY survived because she resembles Catelyn +political gain (Littlefinger), for duty (Brienne), and guilt/sympathy (Theon), not much work, growth, or intelligence.

    • @Striker163videos
      @Striker163videos 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Back in S5 I would have agreed with you, however in S6 her entire transformation has come to light in such a powerful way. I mean when we think about it, we got through Sansa's AFFC/ADWD content in like 3 episodes. She had like 4 chapters over the course of those two books.

    • @avkingoking
      @avkingoking 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      That's my point though, her "strength" and "intelligence" just happens out of nowhere, there's no development, she looked like she was about to cry when Theon told her he wasn't going with her to the Wall, and then two episodes later she's threatening to kill Littlefinger for something she willingly agreed to do and she thinks she knows more about life and politics than Davos. There's no "strength" unless she feels safe and protected, she's not independent, she wouldn't survive on her own, like Catelyn, Margaery, or Arya would. As Alayne I see her becoming that strong independent woman, It's being developed perfectly in a well paced way.

    • @ColonelGreen
      @ColonelGreen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    The show is great, but damn it if it didn't *ruin* Dorne. I also hate how they killed off Barristan. He was a bad ass; there's no way those sons of the Harpy would have had a chance against him.
    The show also made some cosmetic changes to Westeros in general. The wildlife, for example, is supposed to be almost prehistoric. The show kept the direwolves, but forgot about the mammoths and aurochs. Giants look drastically different in the books, being described as almost giant apes instead of really big dudes. Osman Ahmed My point is that he shouldn't have died. Barristan would have carved through all of those Harpies with nary a scratch.
      I'm not reading too much into anything. I think Barristan's death and the heavily altered Dorne subplot were among the worst changes from book to show. Didn't take much thinking past "I don't like that" to come to that conclusion.
      My mention of the *wildlife* was just to point out a difference between the show and the books. It wasn't a complaint.
      I never mentioned wildfire.

    I really, really like Quentin and Arianne and their omission from the show pisses me off, especially Arianne's. Quentin doesn't really do much for the overall plot, but Arianne is integral to the whole Dornish part (hell, she *is* the Dornish part) and is expected to be an important character in the future. Besides, she is a great character and that they leave her out for that Sandsnakes bullshit is so upsetting. I hate what they did with Dorne in the show.
