They experimented with so many sounds that you just don't hear today even. They were not playing around with their fusion style of music. You can watch them do this same bit live on youtube back in 76. Its so beautiful to watch them do it live. So one thing about them that made them hard to market was they were black women that were doing music that was not polished soul. They were rock stars and out of the box with all of these different styles. Their music doesn't fit in one box neatly and that was just not embraced at that time for many black artists. If you listen to their albums starting from album one, you'll feel as if you've been transported to a different world each time. The lyrics are incredible and contrary to popular belief, they all contributed to it in some way. We still have seen nothing like them since they disbanded.
I watch their live version as well! I just love them! "Can I Speak To You B4 You Go to Hollywood" is another of my favorites! Nona cld write her a** off!😊 its nice to know their talent and richness, collectively, are appreciated!
One of my favorite songs from them. I love all 6 albums. They were just so different and their lyrics are super relevant for there. I am always posting rare performances of theirs on my twitter. They are my favorite singers in the whole world, together or separately. Things they sang about were just so different from anyone else around at the time. They were so ahead of their time.
As a long standing Labelle fan, it's so so beautiful to see and hear your reaction to the music of Labelle! I would love to see your reaction to the songs Phoenix & Last Dance or anything else you choose. It's so good to know that the Legacy of be Labelle will go on !💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 Thanks for posting this.
Omg. Thanks for covering this. First heard this album and song in the 90s. I actually hated the album but a few weeks later the songs keep replaying in my head. Then I fell in love and still in love with it. I love blasting this album in my car in nyc every summer
The song ends abruptly because it transitions into the next song GYPSY MOTHS, which is another great song on the album. In fact the entire album is a great listen.
Aw man! What an awesome review of a Labelle classic. These three were ahead of their time inn terms of what they were doing musically. All three members of the group were great vocalists in their own right. You've made decide to reorder that CD.........lol
Wow now this is a surprise. If you want to enjoy more of Labelle you need to listen to The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. The song is 40+ years old and the lyrics ring true right now!!!!
Shimmering, majestic song. Please, please review their live version of Can I Speak to You Before You Go To Hollywood!! By the way, the original version of Chameleon segues into Gypsy Moths, which is why this version seems to stop abruptly! Nice review
" how is this group NOT in the rock and roll hall of fame?!
