    Hi thanks for the video! It was really interesting. Wonder what you make of some New Testament material where Jesus asks his followers to "be perfect" and reject themselves and their families/loved ones if that prevents them from loving him. I understand these very well in a theological sense but I'm very curious about a secular/psychological analysis.

      In Jungian terms, which is where I come from, The Self is a symbol of Jesus. But it could also be said that Jesus is a symbol of The Self.
      So if it actually means that the Self is asking this of us, that would make sense. The Self is the totality of our being, something found when we move past our limited ego in order to know who we truly are. I would imagine that one would need to reject their “parents” at least in a figurative way, by rejecting all you have come to know as an ego, as preparation for the perfect state of Self-hood. But back to Jungian terms, the goal is not to be perfect, but whole. And wholeness is another description of the Self.
