  • We are big fans of fabric patio chairs. They dry super quick, they clean easy, and most importantly, they are comfy, but it is only a matter of time before the wear and tear gets the best of them and they rip apart. We hope this DIY Patio Chair Repair helps you save your chairs while keeping the cost down as well.
    Materials Used:
    1x4 lumber x3
    #14 1-¼ in screws x20 (we actually used #8 in the video, but the #14 screws seem to be more readily available)
    bit.ly/Hillman...
    Cabot Wood Stain
    bit.ly/CabotWo...
    Minwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane Clear Gloss
    bit.ly/MinwaxP...
    Tools Used:
    Craftsman 20v 7 ¼” Mitre Saw
    bit.ly/Craftsm...
    Craftsman 20v Impact Driver with Nut Adapter
    bit.ly/Craftsm...
    Ryobi 18v Power Drill with Drill Bit
    bit.ly/Ryobi18...
    Polyester Flat 2 in. Paint Brush
    bit.ly/Polyest...
    Steps to Get the Job Done:
    Measure the entire width of the seat of the chair
    Cut 5 pieces of that length from the 1x4 lumber
    Under the seat, remove the existing screws from each side to get rid of the fabric
    Lock boards in place with quick grips
    Pre-drill a hole at the center of each board
    Screw each board into place
    Apply 2 coats of stain, allowing the first coat to dry before applying the second
    Apply 2 coats of polyurethane, allowing the first coat to dry before applying the second
    This is a quick 20 min job per chair. The wood stain and polyurethane of course take longer simply because you have to allow for drying time, but the repair portion is a pretty quick job.
    Please let us know if you have any questions and comment below if you have done a DIY Patio Chair Repair differently because we would love to know about it.
    Now let’s go out there and get the job done!

    Very well explained. Showing us the wood and each tool. Slow and thorough. Sometimes people who do DIY easily forget how uninformed the beginner is. I hope you do more videos in the DIY area. Thank You.

    Nice! I was looking at other videos on how to replace the fabric. Your video with the wood is just easier to fix and looks so much better….especially with the stain added. It will surely last a lot longer than the cloth replacement! Great video that didn’t waste my time with extra talking about nothing!! Thanks man.

      Shirley, we are so glad you liked the video. The back’s of these chairs have not worn out yet, so we have not personally fixed those yet...but we have seen it done by others we know and it is the same concepts used for repairing the seat. I don’t have a Mitre Saw but I have a Circular Saw. That will still work right?

    • @Tools4Guys
      @Tools4Guys  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      List Builder Academy, yes, you are absolutely correct, a circular saw will still work, just make sure to keep your cuts straight. It’s not a long cut so as long as you are paying attention, it shouldn’t be a problem. Please let us know if you have any other questions and thanks for commenting!😎👍

    So you’re drilling new holes in the aluminum or are those existing holes and just the wood is getting new holes? Thanks!

    • @Tools4Guys
      @Tools4Guys  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Erinn, the short answer is yes, we did pre-drill through both the wood and the metal. We used self tapping screws so we could easily go through both the wood and the light weight aluminum without having to pre-drill, but we decided to pre-drill the wood to avoid splitting it since the holes were so close to edge of the wood. Please let us know if this made sense or if you have any other questions. Thanks for watching and commenting!😎👍
