Johnson's impeachment was brought about because of his firing of the Congress selected cabinet member, replacing him with his own choice. Congress had recently passed a law that forbade him from doing that, but he flouted the law and did it anyway because he said the law was unconstitutional, which, after his impeachment, the SCOTUS struck it down--he was right.
Tennessee was indeed a southern state, geographically speaking, but East Tennessee was predominantly pro-Union, especially Greene County (Greenville) that led an effort, joined by other East Tennessee counties, to secede from Tennessee after Tennessee seceded from the Union. It was not unusual at all for Johnson to have his pro-Union sentiments.
His home there in Greenville is quite beautiful, as is the town itself--well worth a visit. Thanks for this tour.

I really enjoyed this video! Thank you for sharing! I grew up outside US so I wasn’t familiar with Andrew Johnson I mean I knew he was a former President of US but that’s all I knew. It was so amazing he came from a poor family then made it to the highest. (Well, poor Lincoln...)

Thank you!! That time in America history is so crazy I can't believe it's actually true sometimes! It's fascinating and while taking the tours I learned a lot of things I didn't know about Andrew Johnson. So making this video was a win win!! 😄😄😄😄

Beautiful town. Several years ago, there was a book named The 100 best small towns in America. Greeneville was named one of them. From what I heard, these towns became saturated with people moving there. Some stated they wish they were never listed in the book. Lol. This was a very interesting and informative video. Loved the video.

Thank you! And yes, Greeneville did become saturated for a time but I think others moved out! 🤣🤣🤣

In a very Shakespearean view, Andrew Johnson is essentially American Iago
    “Dost thou mock me?”
“I mock you nay, by heaven. Would you would bear your fortune like a man!”

Andrew Johnson is a complex man and President. He is regularly rated by Historians as one of the worst Presidents. In fact, a new survey voted him 2nd worst just in front of James Buchanan who was President right before Lincoln and the Civil War. Lincoln of course is #1. The thing that bothers me about Johnson’s batching of Reconstruction is that he did the pardons of Confederates for personal gain
