You gotta understand that Jaden Ivey is probably seen as a bench piece by most teams in the league, and so is the 5th pick in this draft. Trading the two of them together can probably get you a decently good starter, but not a borderline all star caliber player. I think they’re more likely to not trade the pick now because they aren’t going to find good deals. To get a borderline all star at this point, you would probably have to trade Ivey, Duren, and the pick, but i’m sure the pistons would probably be hesitant to trade 3 young guys at once.

Ivey is liked around the NBA. It's still about upside but he has trade value. If Risascher and Topic are gone the Spurs would likely give us pick four. They might even throw in Keldon Johnson.

The lottery results don't change much in my opinion. You'd rather have a higher selection so you can choose the player you want versus having to pick through the players still available. However, let's say the Pistons received the #2 pick, my list of players would be Risacher, Buzelis, Knecht, Williams, and Clingan (just added this guy to my list today). Guess what my list is with the Pistons picking at #5. Risacher, Buzelis, Knecht, Williams, and Clingan. See what I'm saying?
I understand what Jack is stating in the video, but I would keep the pick. I don't know that other teams would give proper value for the pick, so I'd rather stick and pick. There are fans complaining about Troy Weaver mismanaging 2nd round picks, well trading a top-5 pick for 30 cents on the dollar would be gross mismanagement to me.
Also the $60mil projected cap space for Pistons included their upcoming 1st round pick with the assumption they had the #1 pick. So dropping to #5 has added more cap space to the projected amount this summer.

"There are some benefits out of not getting that first overall pick... kinda." Nope. That's nothing but coping. You would never voluntarily drop 4 places in any draft. You can always trade down to get some added value if you don't like the prospects around where you're picking but dropping in the draft lottery is just a loss. The only upside of this I see is that maybe Tom Gores is embarrassed by all this failure he's built and it'll push him to sell the team quicker, but he probably doesn't care.

Agreed. I guarantee the Hawks fans love getting the no1 pick from what situation they were in draft-wise before the lottery. I'm a Nuggets fan, and I would love to get the no1 pick in this class (even though it's weak). A weak draft class will always have a few hits in it, and picking first allows you to have the choice of every player in the class. No matter what sport, it's always a major advantage to pick first. The Pistons missed out on a handful of elite players the last 2 years by falling from 1 to 5. Holmgren, Miller, Banchero, and most importantly, Wembenyama. One of those four guys could have made the Pistons an average team and set them up for a good season next year.
You may not always hit on a high pick, but you'll have a better opportunity the higher you pick.

Jack, it feels like the universe/basketball gods are telling us that we need to stay the course with the guys we have. FO just needs to add better support cast for them. I can't help but feel that anything else will be a huge mistake. All the negative stuff we hear about this team is always about back staff, never the players and locker room. That is the responsibility of the owner and how he sets up the foundations and blueprint.
Tom Gores may be willing to do whatever he can for this team by spending money, but he hasn't done the things that good leaders do. He has not set a philosophy and ethos in place that would catapult this core group. The Lions and Sheila Hamp have done that correctly and we need to understand that good prospects become great players when the environment is established. Pistons have good prospects but I think they don't have the right environment to blossom.
