      Ditto @Professor Farnsworth! Knowing is fine ... but to see it all in one totally cohesive video was fantastic! Also very reaffirming that this IS ALL NECESSARY to get to the solution that us mobile/remote workers need to spend our time actually working on not geeking on keeping our internet house of cards in some semblance of working order!

    Superb video Erik! While I have painstakingly learned most of this (before your video unfortunately) through trial and error and buying (and returning - when possible) a lot of equipment, this video would have saved me so much time, money, and effort. Incredibly valuable video!! So here is a non-compensated plug for MMH and their wares.... Just do it their way from the START!!! Whatever you think you will save by buying lesser brands and products ... you WON"T! Many things you buy you will not be able to return and you be annoyed you spent that money and end up with a closet full of unused electronics. If mobile internet (or even rural internet) is essential to your remote working status, you have the solution here. Will it be pricey? Yes. Will it cost more than commuting to work, gas or diesel, tolls, wear and tear on your health. NO ... a good investment and likely a tax deductible home office expense if you meet appropriate IRS criteria. Wish I could turn back the clock! :)

    for those willing to hack.. converting Starlink to 12vdc is straight forward.. you do have to cut cables - but the cale inside is cat5e with a odd POE wiring.. lots of docs on this.. with a friends help using 12vdc to 48vdc converter and POE injector -- I converted my SL to use DC power and got rid of the SL router and just plug SL into the WAN of my pepwave router - MAX BR1 PRO 5G -- works great... I also have a 12vdc POE switch and secondary AP AX Lite. -- lots of devices in my camper van.. I did buy some extra SL cables to hack on.. so it is easy to go back stock SL setup if wanted

      Thanks for the great comment. This sounds very interesting. As Erik mentioned, has a decent solar setup already with inverter so that was easy and not a barrier. Conversions that void a warrenty are also not something we typically would recommend upfront. Sounds like a great setup tho with PoE and starlink on 12v!

    Great video and lots of information.. I am Having lots of anxious moments cutting a hole in our roof to mount our Husky antenna (thanks for giving me the confidence to do it now!), and as a result we're having some trouble with our Max Transit Duo receiving signals from inside the RV. I'm very interested in the box you used to elevate your antenna and I like the idea of "future-proofing" the install by mounting our Husky on top of a box as you did, but can not find it on the MMH site or Home Depot etc. as you suggested. Can you better direct me?

    • @MobileMustHave
      @MobileMustHave  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey David, remember you dont need to use the wifi antennas on the husky if your having signal issues due to roof construction. You can use the paddle antennas for the wifi and use the husky for cellular as option 1, option 2 would be one antenna hooked up to husky and one paddle antenna so you broadcast inside and outside the rv or option 3 would be leaving the roof just for wifi wan hooked up to the husky and then getting a secondary access point just for internal wifi. Those choices are your best bet if having wifi signals then trying to change your roof mount options. If your looking for a 12x12 box here is the link at depot! Your friend has shared a link to a Home Depot product they think you would be interested in seeing.

      Hey Tom, keep an eye out for a video soon on SpeedFusion where we show how to set up a Peplink with Starlink in about 5-10 minutes or less. This video is not designed to be a how-to video but rather a "whats possible" video. Our cellular connections and Starlink connections often work or don't and the router will update its internet path automatically making the internet work seamlessly without much human intervention. That said if you prefer to hit the library rather than learn the tech that makes sense too! Sometimes it's fantastic to unplug, to each their own!

    it would be cool and very helpful if the pepwave "control center" router options page, could have an auto-optimize button that does exactly everything you did to exclude lower-performing connections from the VPN tunnel. it would be a nice kind of quick setup for when you arrive at a destination and you would not have to go and individually test every connection and make the decision on what ones to use, it would just do all that for you with the click of one button... just an idea

      Quick note: the starlink will stow in different directions often on its side based on the design of the dish and always hunting for north. This is something i didnt mention that will cause it to stow weird on its side but i havent had issues. Limitation of the dish design as the top spins 360 degrees and doesnt home itself when you stow

  • @danielllud4435
    @danielllud4435 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have height issues with getting into my garage. Have only 1 foot from the top of my motorhome and the top of dishy to play with when it is stowed. If the stowed position was always as shown in your video (face at 90 degrees to the actuator) it would be so simple but unfortunately dishy doesn't work like most vehicle mounted dish systems I have experienced. Dishy doesn't have a home position when stowed (except straight down). Where ever it is pointing when you park is where it stows. When you slide the stow button across when you stow, it drops straight down. Unless I am missing something re a home position I guess it was never designed to be a permanently "fixed to a vehicle system". After a lot to engineering I had to incorporate a bearing system and the mast rotating with a DC motor powering the rotation. Huge job, took me days and but I got it working and no climbing ladders in the future. Wifey said climbing the ladder would have been so much easier🤔 Wifey is correct but I will be happy when setting up in the pouring rain. Thanks for getting me started on this project.👍

    • @MobileMustHave
      @MobileMustHave  ปีที่แล้ว

      The lag is probably from the cellular carrier you are using and not the wifi per se. Looking at a different provider may help or band selection to find a lower latency connection. From testing with Starlink, it can have low latency but currently, it seems to be testing about the same as an good cellular connection if you don't include the total drop outs starlink can still experience

    Curious as to whether MMH has found a solution to the Pepwave MAX Transit Duo problem when using the a Starlink Ethernet WAN adapter. I get faster Starlink speed when using the Peplink WiFi as WAN 5G connection than the hardwire…. Is this a Starlink H/W problem? Starlink S/W issue? Peplink Firmware issue? I’d also heard of a workaround of putting a cheap Gigabit Switch inbetween the Starlink Ethernet adapter and the Transit Duo’s WAN Port. I’d rather not add hardware that’s not needed but if that’ll get it working, I’ll do it. Excellent video! I am a MMH customer. [T. Rogers.]

    • @MobileMustHave
      @MobileMustHave  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, there are advantages to leaving it more flexable for mounting. That said, we have found overall that if something requires setup, it is less likely to be used. Having it ready to be deployed with a button keeps this really easy and ready to use as long as we have open skys above the rv.

      @MobileMustHave  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! I'm sorry to hear you're having issues getting your Starlink connected. So, for this situation, you wouldn't need to put it in Bypass Mode since you aren't using the Starlink router in your setup. Instead, the issue may be because the WAN port could be set up as a LAN port right now. We have an article we made that can help show you how to convert the LAN port to a WAN port and vice versa. Check this article out and see if that fixes the issue: support.mobilemusthave.com/en/support/solutions/articles/67000729461-converting-wan-port-to-lan-port-and-back-to-wan

    Is there a guide or something for how to configure Peplink WAN for Starlink? I want to bypass Starlink router.

    • @MobileMustHave
      @MobileMustHave  ปีที่แล้ว

      the simplest way to do this is simply to put the Starlink router in bypass mode which can be done from the app. Then simply plug the ethernet cable from the Starlink using the ethernet adapter they sell. The router would still be in the mix but would not be handing out IP addresses or wifi, rally at that point it would just be providing power to the dish as shown in this video. if you want to completely remove the router which will require modifications to the cables and I'd recommend joining our membership at membership.mobilemusthave.com which then will get you access to Mobile Internet Resource Center where there are a host of guides on how to modify the cables to accept standard POE power so you can remove the router entirely. I'd recommend testing everything with the first method, then cutting over to remove the router second once you're happy with the performance. Note our store sells POE switches that run on 12v dc and output enough power for Starlink if you want to avoid any inverter/110 power needs. thanks for the question!

    • @FoolsParadise
      @FoolsParadise ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MobileMustHave Thanks for the quick reply. I'm fine with leaving the router in the mix for now (in bypass mode), but I noticed when I did this the speed went down a little (50Mbps to 30Mbps). I was expecting it to improve, if anything, since it wasn't going through 2 routers. I was wondering if there were any special configurations in Peplink that I wasn't aware of but it sounds like it's just plug and play. The speed loss could have been coincidental with network congestion.

    • @MobileMustHave
      @MobileMustHave  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FoolsParadise there is a known chipset compatibility issue with certain older transit duo models where there is an issue with auto negotiation of port speed which can slow down the wan/lan communication with the starlink router. Starlink doesnt have beans for support but Peplink dug into it and found at the hardware level there was an issue with the two chips and posted that a simple work around is to insert a small 20 dollar network switch like a 4 port switch in between the peplink and starlink to resolve that issue. Give that a shot and see if that improves the speed issue. You can also look at changing the MTU size on the wan port, i'm not 100% sure the optimal MTU size for starlink but that would also be a great question for the MIRC forums.

    • @MobileMustHave
      @MobileMustHave  ปีที่แล้ว

      monthly costs would vary depending on the data plans you have. We travel with all major carriers so it can add up but its a necessary work expense as being connected all of the time is necessary for us to generate income. I'd say cellular plans direct with the carriers average about what you said above and starlink in the US is around $130/mo with portability turned on, all USD.
