      I took figure drawing in college. I drew myself as a portrait like one of the females in The Potato eaters. I got a good grade on it. The picture was my own version. Someone else did him after he was emotionally challenged.

    As an art person I give lectures on Van Gogh you should know he suffered from end stage syphilis was unlikely to kill himself and his brother died 5 months later from the same disease.

    One of my personal favorite songs as well. I’m a visual artist and musician; also a Van Gogh fan. Pac was a genius to except this song! It makes sense.

    Good analysis, however, my biggest curiosity is what the author refers to in the following excerpt: "The silver thorn of bloody rose /
    Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow".

      The line "A silver thorn, a bloody rose, lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow." I believe that this line refers to the way that Van Gogh felt about himself and his talent. He thought of himself and his talent as the rose, something beautiful.

    I firmly disagree with this "analysis." I don't think Don meant that Vincent was sick... I think he meant he was SICKENED... by the ugliness and selfishness of the world. I believe he meant that with no matter how Vincent attempted to display the deep issues of greed, lack of empathy towards life and the suffering that society enacts and ignores, Van Gogh became heartbroken. It killed him that people would rather pretend terrible things aren't happening or that beings aren't suffering in order to justify their un-changing and self-centered ways. It's not hard to understand, if you just listen humbly and honestly. Whoever made this "assessment" is enacting an agenda, in my opinion. The point of this incredibly beautiful song was lost when the man said that Don was saying Vincent was "sick and not crazy." That's not it at all. This person missed the point by miles.

      No, he was definitely sick. This is why he cut off part of his ear and later killed himself.

      I disagree with you. Unless you have not experienced seizures and schizophrenia you don't know what illness is.

      I think that you are misinterpreting the way the narrator used the word sick. "He" was referring to the mental illness that Van Gogh suffered from. Some people call others crazy or insane, when they actually suffer from mental health problems which is better explained by saying someone is ill, or sick, hence mental ILLNESS. Van Gogh suffered greatly, his whole life, because of his mental health issues. Yet, instead of sympathy or compassion for a sick person, people treated him as just another crazy person, who was beyond help.

      One becomes ‘sick’ by being ‘sickened’. I’m pretty sure they only used ‘sick’ as an antonym for ‘ill’ or ‘unwell’. I don’t think they meant that he was ‘sick’ in a derogatory sense.
      I have read that by he had a habit of licking or sucking on his paintbrushes ( maybe to moisten them ?) which would have had lead paint on them. Everyone knows how lead overexposure can cause or exacerbate mental problems.
      It’s possible. 🤔

    One of the saddest lines I ever heard was the last words of Russian engineer Rostislav Evgenevich Alexeyv.....
    " I want to say I have not been understood, I didn't achieve what I wanted."

    Why do you feel the need to analyse it?

  • @stanborg4755
    @stanborg4755 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Van Gogh had the same problem as Robin Williams. Depression. I always wondered why Williams couldn't play it straight on the talk shows. Now I know why. If he did, he would spiral into a depressed state.

    Who gives a shit if it was Tupac's favorite song? I guess that's nice to know for some people but it's no way to advertise it, and it doesn't change the sheer artistry of the song about Vincent Van Gogh, written and beautifully sung by the brilliant Don McLean.
