I've been skiing a little here and a little there, Sweden, Norway, Austria, California, Italy and France... But the scenery in Chamonix takes the price it is just unbelieavble! The snow wasn't the best when I was there but anyone skiing should definitely go there! I'll go back for sure! =)

Not only does this require a lot of skiing and canopy-control skills, Antoine is confortable enough to ski backwards (at 2:28), and to keep flying close to the avalanche he just triggered (at 1:15). Very, very cool stuff!

    1:17 epic scene!
it looks really awesome at the point where the snow is shooting over the edge!

In fact, it's a speedrider. That's a combination between parachute and paraglider, specially designed for this purpose.
Antoine Montant won the Speedflying Pro in Les Arcs last week. What he showed was amazing!

it's the highest lift station in the world at the top of the aiguille du midi, near Chamonix, France. over 12600 feet high, and the start of some of the best ski terrain in the world.

Avalanches will be their devil... much more likely on virgin terrain. Great show... tape them all!!

Nicht ride! Well done stopping at the end.
How did you get down there with only one ski left and your canopy in a big wrap?

how the heck did he get down from after the tumble? did he climb back up to get his other ski??!! Or maybe he dumped the other ski and flew down after fixing his para-glider. crazy!!

It's a parachute. Paraglider have a much higher aspect ratio.

Have you been to the top of that mountain? I have! (On a cable car that goes there.) It is sick just to look down!
That guy has 0% fear. I bet he has to look it up in a dictionary to learn what fear is.

Really funny, that your are defining what "pure speed riding" is.
Montant is pushing the sport to a new level - which is way more inspiring than talking about the meaning of "pure speedriding". :-)
    Btw:
If you just fly, better call it "speed flying", "blade running", or whatever.
The common expression for what Montant does in the video is "speed riding".

Nice shot, wonderful picture, incredible technic but insane.
No respect of the mountain: why laughing after the avalanche? Recognizing the mistake would have been better.
And the crash... well incredibly lucky...
Keep safe Tonio, one lost was enough.

Well it's like heliskiing. If you can afford the helicopter lift, should be no problem. Or you can hike to the top by yourself I suppose...

    he would have either
    1 skied
2 sorted out his wing and relaunched

Have a lot of respect for Antoine (RIP), but in my humble opinion- a mountain-sportsman should never deliberately cause an avalanche. It is irresponsible, it is selfish and it is a gross violation of the ethics of mountain sports.

  • @FegrusMojo

Sorry, but he sounds stoned in the video and he got TOTALLY owned in the vid. Speed riding is NOT about skiing, it is about SPEED RIDING down a mountain, ask any speed flyer where there is NO snow. The sport did not start out with snow. The sport is about speed riding AKA 'FLYING' and not skiing at all. It's a very nice production but your showing more skiiing than pure speed riding.
