The Thief and the Cobbler - Voice Comparison

  • This is an idea I thought up. Not many are aware of the differences of the 3 known versions. And there are some that are confused about it. So, I thought of the idea of making Comparisons of show people the differences of each version. The Original version with the combination of the Kermaidas Cut because Richard Williams was also a part of that, the Calvert version that was only released in Australia, and the Miramax version that people know more. Enjoy. I don't own anything in the video. All credit goes to the following person, Richard Williams (creator of The Thief and the Cobbler). And Garrett the Rat (who made a Fan-Edit).

    i will say something small i love about the original when its comes to the sound design, but not voice acting but music, is how that first moment when they stared at each other and tilted their heads, the soft and light music that played perfectly matched the innocence and gentle nature of their feelings looking at each other. The other versions went a little too hard for the “falling in love at first sight” kinda music that takes over the moment and almost feels too loud, distracting from the simpleness and poignancy of the scene. Idk, just another reason i love the original

    • @ohperid105
      @ohperid105 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      exactlyy now that u mentioned it, the original is more simple yet fascinating with how Tack never speaks so we have to observe through the taks/nails in his mouth, the original is truly displays how innoncent and adorable tack and princess yumyum's romance is. aside from that, its quite endearing to see the original having more of a cute approach when princess yumyum wakes her father up, compared to the others, the calvert vers is more hurried, whisperish and cartoonish, the other is slightly demanding.

    I know I mentioned this before, but I believe Clive Revill might also be the Narrator for the Calvert version. In fact, Revill does a very similar voice for the Narrator in Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas.

    • @Josh366lol2
      @Josh366lol2  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The CG in that film did not age well. As for his narration for that film, no. I still don't hear it. The narrator for the Calvert version is deeper than Clive Revill's. His take for Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas to which I hear sounds higher than the narrator of the Calvert version. Unless someone comes to reveal who the narrator was, it's going to remain unknown.

    Good job! Currently working on something similar with the War Machine Sequence, with the main thing the video will be putting on is how useless Winters monologue is in Miramax version, as well as how sadly cut down the sequence is in most versions.

    4:23 I feel this is an alternate Sarah Crowe take, not a Bobbi Page take (this does definitely apply anywhere else in this scene). Idk, it just sounds very close to Crowe’s performance, being less sappy and a little more balanced. It’s also way better then Jennifer Beals strange delivery of “Wake up, wake up father.” (Though that’s also the Miramax version, so of course something is off).

    • @Josh366lol2

      most likely the Original, and the Calvert Version, I like Johnathan Winters who is a great Improviationalist, but I felt he was unnecessary for this film, Expression can say more than actual spoken dialogue, The one thing that was irreplaceable in all 3 version was Vincent Price as the Vizier.

      The original will always be the best to me. It's hard to watch the other cuts with the knowledge of what happened to Williams and how Disney mistreated it. I'd rather see his art how he intended it to be rather than how a studio wanted it to be so they can push it out for profit.

    Animation community, as an American, I would deeply like to offer my honest and genuine apologies that my country's production sensibilities regarding animation have ABSOLUTELY SUCKED the originality and art out of the medium for decades.
    One day after I die, if my unique afterlife lets me try to take on animation, I will do what I can to shoulder and get justice for the sins of the countless corporate bean counters who have never even touched an animation cell before, who ruined perfectly good art because they thought only braindead babies watch it.

    Original Workprint(UK): Why would they show the unfinished parts of the movie? In minute 2:06 the music isn't a little bit too high-pitched? I mean, it's fine, 3:33 at least they could've insert some dissapointing soundtrack in the background by the moment Zig Zag was shown with his displeasure and wrath.
    Calvert(AUS): Charming music heard in the background, Yum Yum's voice is too high-pitched, King Nod's voice sounds unique and too fancy.
    Miramax(USA): A lot of unnecessary inter-monologues, at least Yum Yum's voice sounds normal and not to high-pitched, some sound effects that portrays situations could be optional (For instance, when the thief sees the three golden balls there's a cash sound effect heard in the background).
    I dunno which one would have won but if I had to choose one I'll go either the Calver Or Miramax version.

      well i doubt they even got to audience testing. the original, where the title characters dont speak, was never finished due to the creator passing away. that is why the other versions exist, the property was bought and rehashed and added to in order to be finished and sent out to the world. Imo i dont see how anyone can miss the story or complain with the silent characters, it has been done before and successfully (the thief is remarkably similar to the squirrel in Ice Age, and they spent just as much screentime on him, not speaking and doing crazy stuff, and they made a shit ton of sequels and he became more and more prominent in every one) so yeah i dont think so though ill happily stand corrected if anyone knows
