I've been motivated to buy many games based on Mark's reviews, and I've never been disappointed with his recommendations. His positive outlook is something that is lacking in many of the other, more "mainstream" review sites.
One of the best and more underrated games of this last generation. Everyone who loves exploring a gigantic fantasy world, with a great battle system and gorgeous graphics should play it.
+Alexandre Barbosa da Silva Gorgeous graphics? LOL, sorry, but no. I'm playing this game and now and I am loving it, but the textures in this game are absolutely hideous.
you voice reeks of sarcasm which is weird and fun to listen to. i like your reviews so far. (started watching your channel's PS3 reviews because i just bought one) SUBBED.
Mark, it's not exactly something new, but I wanted to really thank you for being possibly the only reviewer that reviews via enjoyment as opposed to criticism.
Dragon's Dogma is one of the most underrated games of all time. It was released about 6 months after Skyrim, and only 3 months after Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning, so naturally very few people purchased it. The game has beautiful graphics, amazing lighting effects, and a giant open world. The sound design is top notch and the voice acting is decent. It has the most fluid and responsive character animations and controls I have ever played (imagine The Witcher 3 if Geralt controlled much less like a drunk monkey). All action RPGs should take note of the nearly flawless 3rd person controls in this game. The weapons/armor customization/upgrades are incredibly addicting, and the enemies are varied, plentiful, and sometimes very tough. The one major problem with the game is the weak generic story. The pawn system was innovative and awesome, but unfortunately the game is so old now that you will only really benefit from any online friends you have that are also still playing the game and can recruit your pawn. You MUST get the Dark Arisen version of the game, as it adds a gigantic difficult dungeon and most importantly fast travel beacons that can be placed anywhere in the world.
Narniak69 - was going to ask you about the open world but I ended up buying the game for $5.00. And it is the Dark Arisen version. Thanks for the suggestion.
I beat the Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen a couple days ago and man it's fun! I felt very unattached to the story, but it's got good adventure. The Netflix show is built entirely on lots of short stories and I really like it. I hope you review Dragon's Dogma 2! It comes out in like two months!
Yeah I really like Mark's reviews. I like how he seems to focus more on the positive. I also enjoy CGR's review style that lacks some arbitrary numerical rating. Sometimes I think you can't accurately assign a number to a game that will determine if someone will like it or not.
Absolutely, I am 20+ hours in and really enjoying it, comes highly recommended. The battles are really epic and the fighting system is one of the best in a western-inspired RPG. 9/10
As a non-RPG player, I'm surprisingly having a blast playing through Dragon's Dogma. If I've got a few gripes about the game, it's that the game looks like an original Xbox game with its simple character models and less complex textures and that I'm usually encountering caves early on in my adventure that I want to explore, but I have no business to because me and my party aren't at a high enough level to face the challenges inside. And I don't know that until I try them.
It's a really awesome game! I got it a couple days ago and it's really fun at the moment :) the boss fights are crazy, the game is crazy, the quests are actually interesting, and it has a real "survival" feel to it because it doesn't have fast travel and you pretty much have to watch what you're doing...because creepy things lurk in the night.
I love Dragon's Dogma, it's the game I've been hoping for in areas. It's satisfying, long lasting, challenging and feels like an adventure. This game needs to be noticed more.
If you're talking about when you go into the well in the starting fishing village or whatever, then you have to whack off the tails of them first to weaken them. Sorry if this is a late reply lol but I mean...the pawns sit there and tell you what to do...or at least they told ME what to do. Perhaps get some pawns with prior experience to your quests? That seems to help me :)
This is my game of the year. It may actually be, my game of the gen. I love it so much!!! Can't stop playing! This is thinking man's, explorer, loot collectors paradise action rpg! If you don''t have this yet, get it!
Awesome game. Pretty difficult sometimes, but I've always enjoyed playing this even with the high challenge. I actually have the Dark Arisen version, which I found & bought soon after I got this. I also bought the Art Book of Dragon's Dogma. It was quite expensive, but worth it.
Oh the magic is so cool...all of the spells or whatever have to be charged for a little bit before they're released. So you really have to pick and choose when to cast spells and whatnot, or when your pawn is a mage you have to protect them to get a powerful spell off. It's nuts! It easily holds its own as being an innovator, but the execution is also really well done. The game constantly throws curve balls at you, and the way the quests are outlined makes it kind of FF like...
Just out of curiosity, what version of the game have you played and what were the classes you played with the most(at least on the first playthrough) ? This game was a big surprise indeed and it was fun, but I don't think it deserves 9 or 10
this guy has fun with games and every game he has reviewed that i bought, he was right about it,he does not really look to deep into games having a game to enjoy is what its about ,to many bad reviews on you tube its good to have an easy going reviewer
got dark arisen for $5. Had no idea it was this massive. Played for a few hours and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna keep playing for at least another 20 hours.
Awesome and funny review as usual man, lol. But,I'm still holding out on this game for now since I know Capcom and there's bound to be shit load of DLC/expansions released for this game in future so I'll just wait for the "Gold Edition" per say:P That and well also I'm finally gettin Arkham City GoTY Edition, yippeeee. Guess it pays to be a cheap SOB ehh:P
are the boss battles fun? boss battles are one thing i really look for ina game. and i heard the game is very glitcy with loading times... but ign said that so who knows.
i want to get this game, but im unsure about getting it or the dark arisen version. is the content added in dark arisen worth getting it? or should i get the original version for some bucks less?
They announced that they want to turn this into a franchise, so given that they do they may very well include some new ideas, and modes. I love the Pawns, but give me some players too and I'd be happy as hell.
Is it me or does Mark have a unique way of speaking? It seems to me that he stops between some words, and sometimes doesn't stop when usually you would. Nevertheless, a brilliant review, from a brilliant channel :)
Both are fantastic open world RPGs well worth your time. Really, you won't go wrong with either. However, KOA is done, as the studio got shut down and more than likely won't get any more DLC, while DD has has ton of tiny DLC released, with more coming, and a full expansion pack announced. End of the day though, you'll have a great time and give a good chunk of your life to either of them.
Wow...I have never heard of/seen this game before. Looks like Skyrim in terms of landscape/general subject matter, but with a definite arcade/shooting element (a little like Diablo III) -- I like it! Will definitely consider picking this one up.
Then I gave Colecovizion some more heavy stuff to carry and told him to shut up - thanks for the good laugh....Seriously, I have been on the fence and this review made up my mind...i want this game now
It is, I found myself bored with the story pretty quick and I even looked at my quest list and said "Which one is the main?!" Maybe I just zoned out at bad times but I had a hard time telling which quest was the main story and which was optional. Its a good game, but I personally think it needed a lot more variety in monsters (only like 6 big monsters) and the rest of the smaller ones are copies with different looks. Thats without the DLC though, so could be more.
I heard that the story and characters were really crappy in other reviews but if Lost comes to mind while playing it I am totally checking this out. Freaking loved Lost...Until the last episode...GRR!
For anyone wondering...I bought Dragons Dogma for PS3 on preorder & got sent DLC's before I even got the game!! If you're wondering, hold out for the later versions so u don't have to worry about all the DLC's you'll need to get later on:)
So once you complete the whole game can you continue free roam, xp and explore around the game without loosing your character?! Please reply, most appreciated. Ty
This game is amazing! You'll grow to love everything about this game... To me it's kinda like that game I always dreamed about and wondered why no one made it yet, and as for the day 1 dlc that people bitch about so much... It's 1$... Seriously 1$ and it's not a requirement but really it's just 1$
Is there some kind of glitch where you restart the game e cause you wanna roll another character and you can't use your friends pawns anymore on xbox360 because I'm getting generic ones now
so i finally found a good review that doesnt point out the repetitive talking of the pawns which isnt a big deal or the no fast traveling shit like other reviews from ign or othere channels -_-........i love this game nd hell yeah it does remind me of monster hunter!
I tried the demo to this the other day since i missed it at release. Its pretty decent :) Might as well wait for the "arisen edition" in a few months time though. My musculer amazon lady is ready XD
Are most of you changing class often? I started as a strider and then switched to ranger. Having hit rank 10, I feel I should be switching again, but I don't think I am terribly far into the story. It makes it seem like I am expected to switch through all the classes before the end of the game, which isn't a great incentive for replaying the game.
you're not alone, i started as a strider, then switched to ranger and now I'm playing as an assassin (which is my favorite class so far) and yes is kinda annoying
Dragons Dogma is a little hard to get into at first because it is rather hard and all that backtracking, but after level 23 or so, it is epic. The game is so fun it's like mixing Skyrim and Dark Souls with Monster Hunter.
I have both a PS3 and a 360 but I'm still holding out hope that this comes to PC. Given that it's published by Capcom, I don't think it's that much of a stretch.
Loved the review man, your jokes are always funny but i found something wrong in your review... you missed the coolest point of being a lightweight melee class in this game. You never actually climbed on any enemies back or stabbed them to death.Did you not know you could do this?Because for me that's the single most coolest feature in the game.
I think that's yet another reason why a lot more people loved Morrowind so much more than any other Elder Scrolls game. It was really mysterious and alien like. Just reading the books in Morrowind was really far out. Oblivion was a step backwards big time in the scenario department - European and generic. At least Skyrim took a step forward in that department.
Sounds like a review I saw a long time ago. I think it was IGN. It's cool if you feel that way, though. Personally, this game was a HUGE surprise and possibly my favorite game of the year, so far. I didn't have any of the problems you did. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

lightsouthaha ik this comment is old but no sir the graphics aren't that great but the game itself is pretty good and that's what matters
you voice reeks of sarcasm which is weird and fun to listen to. i like your reviews so far.
(started watching your channel's PS3 reviews because i just bought one)
SUBBED.
What an enjoyable review, great character to your voice to keep it from being boring, and I like the honesty. Nice job, subbed!
Mark, it's not exactly something new, but I wanted to really thank you for being possibly the only reviewer that reviews via enjoyment as opposed to criticism.
Mark, you should start listing the music you use in your videos in the description... I love the chillness of it!
I love this videos. Kudas Classic Game Room, you have the funniest reviews anyway. I'm from PA and I couldn't help but LOL at your reference.

Can you remove the black bars on the top/bottom?
Narniak69 - was going to ask you about the open world but I ended up buying the game for $5.00. And it is the Dark Arisen version. Thanks for the suggestion.
Great review! This is how reviews should be done. Interesting, informative, impartial and funny. Take note youtubers!
"Wouldn't that be fun to send them back with a venereal disease?" So you caused the Dragonsplague in DD2!
Same here, I'm only about 15 hours in, level 30 abouts, and I'm loving every minute of this game.
Yeah I really like Mark's reviews. I like how he seems to focus more on the positive. I also enjoy CGR's review style that lacks some arbitrary numerical rating. Sometimes I think you can't accurately assign a number to a game that will determine if someone will like it or not.
Finally, a Dragon's Dogma review from someone I can trust.

This is such an amazing underrated game. Probably in my top 5 for 2012.

This game looks very well done, which makes me happy because I need a game like this in my life right now. Thanks for the review Mark! :)

This is how a review should be. This was way better than ign or gamespot's review for this game.

are the boss battles fun? boss battles are one thing i really look for ina game. and i heard the game is very glitcy with loading times... but ign said that so who knows.
i feel if i were to get an rpg for my console (i don't really buy them often) i'd get Kingdoms of Amalur over this - is this wise?
1 of the most underrated games this gen
Just wish it would have online oh well still a great game
I've been really thinking about buying this game. I'm primarily a PC gamer which is the main thing that's holding me back; although I do have a PS3.
i want to get this game, but im unsure about getting it or the dark arisen version. is the content added in dark arisen worth getting it? or should i get the original version for some bucks less?

I wish there was a 'double like' button for this. :D Your delivery is nonpareil!
Awesome review mark
Is it me or does Mark have a unique way of speaking? It seems to me that he stops between some words, and sometimes doesn't stop when usually you would. Nevertheless, a brilliant review, from a brilliant channel :)
This looks really good, but im kinda confused, if you choose the strider class, do you also get a bow?
Classic game review is hilarious as always. I like his style. :-p
Sounds awesome, so is it worth the money?
what is the song at the beginning. always wondered... love your videos by the way :D
This guy is my favorite reviewer ever. Cause of his Nier review.. :3

Cmon Mark tell us the song at 4:45, im in love with it for about 4 years, plz!
Got that right. Gaming is about having fun and Mark nails it.
I would really like it if I could have MP3's of all the CGR songs! The Classic Game Room OST! Make it happen, Mark!
Well it's Classic Game Room HD. Classic reviews, modern reviews.. all awesome
Wow...I have never heard of/seen this game before. Looks like Skyrim in terms of landscape/general subject matter, but with a definite arcade/shooting element (a little like Diablo III) -- I like it! Will definitely consider picking this one up.
Looks goood. I'll be awaiting that sequel for the Dreamcast. I am sure the DC can handle it, since it has a lot of untapped potential.
This looks amazing! i just ordered my copy! i hope it's better than skyrim which entertained me for about 10 hours.
Then I gave Colecovizion some more heavy stuff to carry and told him to shut up - thanks for the good laugh....Seriously, I have been on the fence and this review made up my mind...i want this game now
please do a tribes ascend review, I want to know your opinion
so by post game do you mean you can play the game after the main quest? Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question.
It is, I found myself bored with the story pretty quick and I even looked at my quest list and said "Which one is the main?!" Maybe I just zoned out at bad times but I had a hard time telling which quest was the main story and which was optional. LOL your title sugestion was awesome!! DDN: HATRC edition for Sega o.O ^^
So once you complete the whole game can you continue free roam, xp and explore around the game without loosing your character?! Please reply, most appreciated. Ty
i can't wait to play, i just picked up my copy today, i haven't touched it yet, still deciding on a pawn name lol
I want to put this in now, how do we grab enemies?
Is it just me or does this game look EXTREMELY SIMILAR TO SKYRIM!?
also, What console is this? PS3?
Will this be coming out for the Odyssey 2? Some of us haven't upgraded yet.
This game is amazing! You'll grow to love everything about this game... To me it's kinda like that game I always dreamed about and wondered why no one made it yet, and as for the day 1 dlc that people bitch about so much... It's 1$... Seriously 1$ and it's not a requirement but really it's just 1$
I wonder if a Felyne pawn will be dlc later on....:)
Is there some kind of glitch where you restart the game e cause you wanna roll another character and you can't use your friends pawns anymore on xbox360 because I'm getting generic ones now
Did anyone already try recording it and using Gracenote or something?
so i finally found a good review that doesnt point out the repetitive talking of the pawns which isnt a big deal or the no fast traveling shit like other reviews from ign or othere channels -_-........i love this game nd hell yeah it does remind me of monster hunter!
Is there a 4 player co-op in the vectrex version?
What's the name of the song at 4:44? He has it in a lot of the videos
I tried the demo to this the other day since i missed it at release. Its pretty decent :) Might as well wait for the "arisen edition" in a few months time though. My musculer amazon lady is ready XD
Mark should be the only one allowed to officially name video game titles from now on!
he's been doing nothing but giving the game praise. this review is what made me decide to go and buy the game tomorrow -__-
God I love this intro so much more than the new one.
its been out a few days now, maybe even a week...not sure..why you think its not out yet?
Are most of you changing class often? I started as a strider and then switched to ranger. Having hit rank 10, I feel I should be switching again, but I don't think I am terribly far into the story. Can't wait for Dragon Dungeon Ninja Hyper Alpha Turbo Remix Championship Edition! Gonna be epic!
you're not alone, i started as a strider, then switched to ranger and now I'm playing as an assassin (which is my favorite class so far) and yes is kinda annoying

So tell me, can bosses such as Cyclops's and others just randomly spawn out in the open?
You sound like Yamcha from Dragon Ball :o ... *instant sub*
Its pretty certain you will like the game as it has got the difficulty that you can only pass by skill and has got an amazing online feature
The fps drop is kinda wierd to me O.o I play this game installed on my 360 and my framerate never drops

Do you need XBOX Live Gold in order to trade pawns online? I take it there is no multiplayer component other than that...
Lady Vectrex and her loyal pawn Colecovision. Genius.
Man, I wish this was on PC.
+maggit wish granted
+NosferatuTodd I heard. I'm excited!
I wouldn't be surprised if a PC version came out in a few months. I didn't know Street Fighter X Tekken was coming to PC until I saw it pop up on Steam.
This game looks awesome, why were other reviewers bagging on it?
is that the best you can come up with?
Lol! U sound like Dave Callen from Good Game! XD
This game is like KoA: Reckoning on "Realistic Nightmare Mode!"
Yeah, it is actually. I've stopped playing at the moment because it just gets too boring & repetitive. Good game though, but Skyrim will ALWAYS be my No. #1 RPG of ALL TIME! xD
this isn't availble on the dreamcast? :P
MVHH
the only flaw in this game is that side missions SUCK, but the other things are awesome, even the lack of fast travel, you feel the fear of traveling the roads at night and the relief of arriving to the city after an epic fight in the forest...this game is pure win
Dark Arisen adds so much. Definitely get that version.
where can i get the song starting at 4:44?
