Thanks for the tip. It also applies when anything you install in your lathe tailstock taper doesn't extend into the eject slot. I have a live center that is just a bit short that I will making a short adapter to precede it into the tailstock taper.
They make an adapter sleeve for 1"-8 to 1 1/2"-8, but I think going to 1 1/4" is simply too small (thin) for the stresses of machining and using. I'm going nuts trying to find a simple MT2 taper that ROTATES! That's all. I've got a Jacobs 1/2" chuck and I can mount it solid in the tailstock, but No one makes an adapter, just a female MT2 and some needle bearings inside a male MT2. Wouldn't think it'd be that hard to make; there's certainly a market.

Nice tip, I hadnt thought of that problem. Thanks!
Nice simple explanation to solve a problem. Like the ball bearing idea too!
is there a 1.25 inch UNC female thread available to allow connection of the morse taper onto a heavy duty wet core drill ? thank you, sir.
Good points i didnt know about.
Thanks
If you forget put a bunch of ball bearings the slot.
Another clever idea. Thanks David.
I bought a PSI live center and it works great, but it only comes in a 1" 8 TPI. Do you know of anyone making a 1 1/4" X 8TPI live center. Thanks.
