  • I went for spot shrimp in the greater Seattle Washington area for the first time this season in 2021. Definitely an activities that takes a lot of preparation and research beforehand to be successful. I've provided a high level overview of what preparation is needed, especially for folks that are new to the activity. The Whaly was able to perform the task, and I provided some pros and cons on the Whaly handling of this activity. Let me know if you guys have any questions or comments below. Thanks for watching!

Hey there.. I know I'm pretty late to the party, but I have a suggestion regarding your line puller mount. E-Z Anchor Toggle Locks are what I used.
I prefer these molly bolts over to basic toggle bolts because this holds tighter and longer, plus it doesn't leave the back toggle to fall into your hull what you take the screw/bolt out.
if you need to take out the screw for whatever reason, the spreader is one piece so it stays in place to use again and again. I used a sealant caulk on the thread just below the screw head for extra adhesion and waterproofing.
    Hope this helps someone!

I think you might my west coast spirit doppelganger. I'm in the process of ordering a 500r and questioned if the dealer about a pot puller(lobster/crab in Maine) and the options on adding it to the boat. He suggest adhesive as a bolt compliment but we wanted it to be removable. We initially hoped the nose would help with pulling/dropping from the boat. Good to know this wouldn't be a value add option. Do you still like your Whaly? Couldn't tell if you started to sour on the purchase based on the video.
Regarding the puller - could you just make a plate to sit on the outside of the boat that you'd be able to run your bolts through? This would given you more stability vs the drywall anchors. Also would be removable.

Can you buy another Scotty plate and mount it on the outside using longer bolts? You can try using whatever color Loctite thread locker is appropriate for your needs to solve the bolt loosening issue. I'm guessing green. Or you can try self locking nuts like nyloc or distorted thread types. I would want higher graded bolts for this application since they'll be pretty long and low grade garbage could break on you if you have to pull a pot that's fully loaded. Tacoma Screw can probably hook you up there.

Thanks for the comment! The Whaly definitely has its pros and cons, like any boat as I continue this boat ownership journey, so I suggest making a list of what you want the boat to be great at and see if the Whaly can meet those expectations adequately. For me also as a first time owner, I didn't have a lot of those insights so I hope to provide them to everyone in these videos. That is a great option for the puller, but it's not a very aesthetically pleasing, so pros and cons as usual haha. I'm currently designing a modular input for the Whaly that sits in the back and can be use to mount these attachments. Will make a video on it if it works out.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll look into those bolts suggestion, the challenge would be to access them since the boat doesn't have any opening into the hull wall, so it has to be used without something to hold it in place.
