    Just putting this out there, there are three schools in the triwizard tournament from three different countries...who's to say the cup was even made by someone in Britain?

      Exactly, since it has runes i would say it was made in germany or surroundings wich means Durmstrang. If it had celtic knots most definitely it would be british.

    Your comparison of the Goblet to the Sorting Hat immediately made me think you might take the direction that the Heads of the participating schools might have pooled their magic together to create it much the same way Hogwart's founders did for the hat.
    I was a little surprised the possibility wasn't mentioned or looked into.

      Merlin is much older than that.
      But since we actually don't know when the Goblet was created and at worse we know wizards can live quite old, to me it's more logical that Merlin is the creator, indeed. When Seamus started talking about the Goblet, its creation, and the time it was made, Merlin is actually the first wizard name that came to my mind.

    Hmmm. Well, it certainly could have been Iolanthe Potter, but there were certainly other wizards alive at the time whose names have been forgotten by history. It would be like someone 700 years from now saying that Dumbledore must have created the Marauder's Map because he was a really powerful wizard and at the school at the time of its creation. History probably won't remember the actual names of Moony, Prongs, Padfoot and Wormtail, except in EXTREMELY old books. It might not even remember them there, considering that the Marauder's Map is an object that only a select few even know about.
    Therefore, it would be easy in 700-800 years to point at a famous wizard who HAPPENED to be around at the time, like Dumbledore or Harry or even old Tom Riddle himself, and say "It's from around the time such-and-such was there, so they must have made it."
    I understand that a well-known historical object such as the GOBLETOFIYAH is vastly different from something as recent and secretive as the Marauder's Map, but the logic is still sound: if you didn't know who made it, you could claim ANY powerful wizard of the time did so.
    I like how much research you put into your theories, but I think this one is just too vague to be conclusive. Honestly, even if you're right, the subject matter is so shrouded in mystery that Rowling could change her mind on it at any time and attach ANY name to it. Today, her official notes might say that Iolanthe Potter created it (making you absolutely correct), but she could switch it at any time before she makes it canon by posting it, and no one would know the difference (making you dead wrong).
    Good video, though. I like how much frantic energy you have for someone so incredibly exhausted. ;)

    • @masha7377

      Except JKR likes to link everything together 1000 times over. And Harry's ancestor creating the thing that effectively puts him into mortal danger and that enables her cousin's descendant to resurrect, is exactly the wicked thing that she would do!
      And as to your Marauders' Map point: You're talking about 4 crucial figures in 2 wizarding wars. And then their son (of course Harry had 4 dads) used it multiple times to overthrow the Dark Lord the second time around. Besides, you're talking about 4 incredibly powerful students here, and if only they had lived to reach Dumbledore's age, they would have reached similar levels of respect and mystique, I'm sure. This way, they'll always be famous as heros who died defending what is right. (Glossing over Wormy because that's not the point here)

    • @brandonl2555
      @brandonl2555 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      SawmillTurtle my thoughts exactly, and really the only reason we know the name of Iolanthe is because she’s the ancestor of Harry Potter. We don’t know that she’s a powerful witch, I can follow the logic train to her being a teacher at hogwarts, that was a nice bit of conjecture. But think about all the intergovernmental efforts that went into the 1994 cup. With so many other qualified people (headmasters, or heads of state) why would a plain teacher be the create the cup? You can’t come back with, well maybe she was the headmistress, but that’s a stretch. If Rowling went through the effort to give us this name, it’s not hard to assume she’d use another 20-30 characters to say she held the prestigious position of headmistress. All in all, I love Seamus’s work, and I loved his process in getting to his conclusion...just thought the payoff fell a bit short this time.

    • @joeyflint7232
      @joeyflint7232 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It is NOT the same as comparing it to the marauders map. The map was created in secret and is known by a very small amount of people. The goblet was created for a nationwide event that spanned centuries and thousands upon thousands of viewers. The craftsmen would’ve been held in high regard and not have been a secret who made it. The evidence all links together.

    • @BenBarrett1
      @BenBarrett1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joeyflint7232 I actually said that very thing. Second to last paragraph:
      "I understand that a well-known historical object such as the GOBLETOFIYAH is vastly different from something as recent and secretive as the Marauder's Map, but the logic is still sound: if you didn't know who made it, you could claim ANY powerful wizard of the time did so."
      Glad we agree on that.

    • @Libellulaire
      @Libellulaire 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joeyflint7232
      But in the end, it's the same: 700 years later, we don't know who created the Goblet. And in 700 years, the ones who'll put their hands on the Map won't know who made it (unless Harry and his descendants make sure to tell the story of the four friends when giving the Map.)
      And if you don't know the creator of the item for sure, you can theorize than any powerful enough wizard (or wizards) of that time created it.
      Iolanthe making it is a fun theory, but there's absolutely nothing to back it up. Seamus is theorizing that she is powerful enough to do it, that she'd be working at Hogwarts and that she'd be asked to create it, but there's not really any evidences to those... Nothing even close.
      Still interesting, but really nothing to back it up.

He was a Slytherin (source - Pottermore), and you know, I did some research, and Merlin the Wizard was born in about the year of 540, BUT since he's an extraordinary and a powerful wizard, Merlin's known to have lived about 440-460 years old, and that would mean he would've died in about the year of 980-1000. So techincally, he could not have made the Goblet of Fire, because like Sheamus said, it was made in about 1230-1250, and by then, Merlin was already dead.

      Ram Helou It’s cause you need a lot of willpower to apparate, even if someone else is doing the work, a baby wouldn’t be able to keep itself together, and would probably splinch itself ten times over. That is why she couldn’t apostate with Harry, as it would probably kill Harry anyways.

Now, Ron was never the best at apparating, but if it had nothing to do with a wand, why would Rowling include that? (Just to clarify, Ron is trying to Apparate in the basement of Malfoy Manor, just in case you wanted to know)

    That's really nice research into the lore! However the key argument this theory stands on is that the cup wasn't made specifically for the tournament otherwise they'd have added an age restriction. BUTTT we know the age restriction was added as a further precaution only in the tournament that Harry participated in. So I think it far more likely that the three schools, wanting to start up this tournament got together and put there minds into making the goblet.

    I mean this is a great theory but it feels like you’re reaching when a really simple answer would be right under your nose. The three headmasters of the schools at the time enchanted the cup to choose the witch or wizard who best exemplifies what they value from a participant. For example durmstrang values the brute talent and bravery aka victor krum. The headmasters would have obviously been very talented witches or wizards. But not insanely talented which is why things like the age line and various tampering were required/occurred

I believe it's also stated on Pottermore or in one of the Pottermore Presents books that spouses of teachers at Hogwarts generally live in Hogsmeade during the year. I don't disagree that Iolanthe Potter could've created the Goblet of Fire but there are just some small disagreements I've got with your theory lol

    So Harry is of course related to Ignotus Peverell. Voldemort is related to Cadmus Peverell. This makes Harry and Voldemort distant cousins. As is established in the books.
    However, since Voldemort is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin, wouldn't that mean Harry is related to Salazar Slytherin as well? Doesn't this mean that Harry *is* one heir of Salazar Slytherin after all?

    wow, sorry, but this is a HELL of a stretch. like i will ALMOST accept the link to the wizard and the hopping pot. i cant say im 100% sold but that is kind hard to contradict so lets play along
    and yes, there was a potter in 13th century. but... i mean... that is litterally it. thats all you have. is that iolandthe MIGHT have been woking at hogwars, where there is like 20 staff at any given time.because the only jobs we know about (other than the many you missed like reporter, magical doctors,writers and reserachers, store owners, bar keep, assumable some moer experemental roles like spell or potion creation and more) from a series of books that doesnt really explore the world that much, there are only 3 places to work. so IF that is right, than she was at hogwarts during the first triwizard cup that MIGHT have been where the goblet was made, so she might have made it because she happened to be around... maybe
    PLUS this is all assuming the goblet of fire was made on day 1. maybe the first 10 or so the schools just picke a champion, all we know is the goblet had been around for a considerable time, but 100 years before the tourny was abolished is a considerable time
    using this logic, maybe a malfoy or black made it.or one of the many wizards that died out

    Hey, i have a theory, i'm sure i came up with it but since there are heaps of people in the world, at least one of them had probably thought of this, but here it is:
    The grim is a spectral dog which haunts the churchyards. "The giant, spectral dog that haunts churchyards!......" - Professor trewlawny. harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Grim , also form the POA.
    Anyway, the grim is a dog which haunts the churchyards, as i said earlier. In the mideavial times people would bury a dog first in a new graveyard/churchyard/whatever because the first person or animal buried in a new graveyard would guide the others to the afterlife. They buried a dog first because they wanted their loved ones to go to the afterlife instead of guiding the others, stuck in the graveyard.
    Dumbledore, was the first buried at hogwarts. Now i know you're thinking that that wasn't a graveyard, and you're right, it wasn't. What if they buried the others who died in the battle of hogwarts there? Please correct me if i'm wrong, but i couldn't find information anywhere where they were buried, so what if they were buried there at hogwarts? That would make dumbledore the one that would guide the others to the afterlife thing.
    When hary had 'died' he was in the Limbo. harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Limbo
    "Limbo is a state of being that exists between life and death. Limbo comes to being inside a person's mind making it both real and unreal."
    Dumbledore was there, and he was with Harry, helping him make a choice whether to go on or stay. Harry obviously chose to return, but as i previosuly stated, Dumbledore was there helping him choose whether to move on or not and dumbledore had died. Harry Potter: "Tell me one last thing. Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?""
    Albus Dumbledore: "Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?"
    If Dumbledore was dead wouldn't he have moved on instead of staying behind? But what if he had no choice because he ahd to stay! Harry even says in the deathly hallows that dumbledore would have moved on you can find the qoute if you want but it's there. Also, in the order of the pheonix, you can find the page and stuff again but after Sirius's death Harry went to Sir Nic and asked if about Sirius and nick told him about this stuff. But yeah that's my theory, that dumbledore was that thing that guided the others to their afterlife thing. You can add on to this and if you wanted to you can make a video about this. Sorry if it isn't easy to understand what i wrote.
