- On December 19, 1956, the life of "Miss Pearl" Routon, from Paris, Tennessee, was featured on Ralph Edwards' "This Is Your Life," one of the most popular TV shows of that time. A portrait painter, horticulturist, musician, florist, and humanitarian, Miss Pearl was an honorary colonel on the staff of Governor Frank Clement. She was the person who chose the iris to be the State Flower of Tennessee, and she painted the oil portraits of several of the state's governors.

I am so proud of my heritage! Little by little I learn more and more about my family and am constantly amazed. My heritage runs deep into the heart of this land. My ancestor’s work is easily seen as Pearl’s influence in the appointment of Tennessee’s State Flower. To be featured on a prominent show as shown here …..
I’ve been to Routon, Tennessee just down the road a bit from Paris. Not much to be seen in Routon and wasn’t aware of Routon presence or influence in Paris. Working in Kentucky until at least the first of the year, maybe I’ll take some time on a weekend and go poke around Paris and see if I can learn more.
The saying, "It's more blessed to give than to receive", describes Miss Pearl to a tee.

I was adoped but my paternal (biological) side of the family is Routon (the Texas branch). I have very little information but came across this video in a recent search. Miss Pearl seems like she was a wonderful lady and a joy to be around.
A wonderful tribute to a woman widely known for her talents and gifts and the good use she made of them to help others! I am proud to be a Routon and her grandniece!
