Vai talks about being a fan of the music when the albums came out but that he didn’t “look under the hood “ at that time. Amazing how complex this music is, especially played live
Some non musicians complained that Carey's timing is off, or he lacks groove. Belew's guitar is consistently the loudest instrument in the miix, and he lags in some places. Maybe that's the issue. I just don't hear any problem with Carey's timing, and I have focused on it a lot.
whoever complained about Carey’s timing doesn’t know what they’re talking about, while he is not Bill Bruford he did justice to the songs and sounds of the original recordings of these tracks
Carey was near-perfect and did everything to hold it together. Let me start by saying I love Adrian Belew and will go far and wide to see any band he's in. But that Saturday night Belew was WAY too loud, his timing was helter skelter and it was throwing off the rest of the group. His guitar noise - perhaps the most salient and interesting aspect of the 80s lineup in particular and his playing in general - lacked musicality and was just bloody painful. We nearly walked out and several in our section actually did. People who remained were complaining audibly during the intermission. I put the blame mostly on the sound engineer(s) but Adrian has to share some of it for perhaps being too self-indulgent.
@@spiffyg4939 I honestly don't hear significant evidence of Belew's timing being off here, and I scrutinized it a few times, but being too loud can really affect the listener's perception and enjoyment. He is also just doing what he's always done in this solo: mimicking a backwards tapedeck sound. Only thing I'd fault is him choking up that high on his vibrato arm. It's harder to contoll that way, but it sounds fine. It's not really self-indulgant to do the things one is known for. That what his fans expect. He does a lot of what might be called "antimusical" stuff, which is a type of musicality. I like how he challenges convention in his way. There's a sense of humour in it as well. Love that he is having so much fun -- not taking himself too serious.
To this day after seeing many iterations of KC I do not know what people exactly mean by "lack of timing" all drummers and percussionists since Muir have always played across the bar lines and with fluid motion as music does. I do not understand these people. KC keeps having the best drummers and so does BEAT with Danny and Adrian is the cherry on top so why would he ever be blamed about any timing issues??? I do not see the issue here. I saw the last KC iteration with THREE drummers and gavin was behind by ALMOST a whole beat when they did breathless but THAT'S what made the music so wonderful. Maybe jazz is a bit too much for certain Krimson fans.
How they keep this all together is beyond comprehension.
It's pretty interesting to see musicians stretched to their limit. Good stuff.

Demand it! The world needs Beat
seeing how many shows have sold out, I am almost sure they will visit Europe at some point in time.

being there, there was zero issue with his timing.

Notice how guns are always named by caliber and never by model in Hollywood dreck action films? I hate that shit.
