This Could Explain Mario Strikers: Battle League's Disappointing Character Roster

- Many have been concerned about the character roster in Mario Strikers Battle League. Most notably the lack of Daisy. It was a bit surprising considering Next Level Games is developing it. After looking at the Nintendo Switch games and what has become common in games, I thought of a reason why the roster is lacking. None of this has been confirmed, but is very likley.
Daisy and bowser Junior (especially Daisy) are the most notable absences. Their absences are really jarring considering both of those are mainstay Mario characters that have been around for a very long time and have been in the most spin off games
Diddy Kong?
@@subifyouhatetiktokandreddit234 Yeah him too but he’s been absent from a good amount of recent games which is weird
Nah. Give me Petey.
@@reactingfriends He’s great but I don’t think he has the same status as Junior and Daisy😂
@@barelyhere7200 In the strikers series he does.
Daisy not being in new Mario Strikers is a huge red flag and it made me question, analyze and have second thoughts on the game. Seriously, it doesn’t take a brainer to add an iconic character that fits BEST with the whole game’s concept.
Yeah I'm not getting this game until they put in more characters. This current roster size is less than the previous games.
No one played daisy anyways
@@herdenhopkins7830 then why are you here?
@@herdenhopkins7830 adding her won't hurt you or damage the game
@@herdenhopkins7830 By “No one” you mean you only yourself
I'm in the same boat with ya. I feel like Nintendo is making these multi-player games as disposable distractions for a quick buck as oppose to rich filled, replayable, and memorable games that can last for years. I really hope that Mario Strikers Battle League will come out at launch with a good amount with unlockable characters and the controversy surrounding it is nothing more than spotty marketing on their end.
It only has two less characters than Charged! ._. not a big deal when Battle League has two more than the first game! Meaning BL is a nice in-between will likely free dlc in the future
@@DANCERcow The issue is the sidekicks played a huge role in Charged and added a lot of variety with the captain/sidekicks system, you could even repeat the same sidekick. Imagine if they added every sidekick Charged had, there would be so many options for everyone. I am personally a huge fan of Drybones, Petey Piranha, Hammerbro, Boo, Bowser Jr... I'd say I like them even more than the main characters since I love monster-ish characters and this game is just full human characters roster except for Bowser and DK.
@@DANCERcow it should have at least the same amount of characters, this is a big return for a series which has been dead since 2007, and they show up with only 10 characters? and remember, you need 8 of them to play a match, the low number is unacceptable.
Hm

You know, as much as I prefer Kritter over Boom Boom as the goalie, I can see why Nintendo put him in. Aside from the Kremlings being "obsolete" in modern Mario and DK games, being a goalie is all about using your hands to catch that ball and prevent it from getting in your goal, and Boom Boom does have some pretty big hands, definitely bigger than Kritter's ever were (also Boom Boom's outfit is somewhat sick ngl)
I think it would have been a good idea to have different goalie choices. Boom Boom (if they gave him wings, he could be better with verticality in goal), then Kritter (who could withstand faster shots, but is slower), and Pom Pom (who could be better at moving side to side).
The only thing Boom Boom is good at is flailing his arms in a straight line
I want to see the kritters hit their teammates with the ball again
@@julienherard414 and getting jumped on
@@jwil4286 I'm shocked this hasn't been done before
Yeah the lack of Daisy has made me realized and analyzing the potential problems occurring in Mario strikers
Watch Daisy be an unlockable. Alongside Toadette.
@@CarbonRollerCaco Im crossing my fingers and hoping but it dont seem like it
1:21, Boom boom is really well animated and looks to have a actual personality in this game kritter being gone sucks but boom boom replacing him has grown on me in the last month. And I think your theory is very realistic Nintendo probably put a deadline for NLG and they focus more on gameplay then characters.
On the off-chance that Mario Strikers: Battle League launches with not only a small roster but also a noticable lack of content to keep players engaged, I kinda hope that people won't give Camelot such a hard time anymore. You can criticize perhaps the direction they took with some of their games (for example, people didn't like the focus on Speed Golf in Super Rush because it led to simplified controls and courses) but I've also seen people saying that the "finish it later" tactic is "just a Camelot thing" when that's not true. It's a Nintendo thing which they for whatever reason placed on Camelot's games and that's why I feel that there most recent games don't have enough charm, polish and/or content. After all, they've also fallen victim to the "obligatory June Mario game release" thing which has been going on for a while. I also don't want people to give Battle League a pass if it does launch "unfinished" just because Next Level Games made it, or else it'll just send a message to Nintendo to keep releasing unfinished games as long as they're made by developers that people really like and "can do no wrong".
(Also, no offense, but in my opinion Mario Party Superstars is by no means packed with content when all it does is remaster five boards and minigames before making the other mode aside from regular Mario Party a way just to play certain minigames together. Not to mention of course, the smaller roster. I've since held off on buying the game since I feel that it doesn't offer enough substantial single-player content as well as something to enjoy with multi-player. This isn't necessarily an issue with Smash Ultimate or even WarioWare: GiT on the other hand. I say this because you seemingly also criticized a game like Super Rush for not doing the same thing, when I feel that it offers both a decent pick-up-and-play experience for both single-player and multi-player at least. Again, in my opinion, because I still want to eventually get Superstars and that I'd be in the minority opinion on this anyway. Also, regardless, Super Rush is still a disappointing game in several aspects. I just don't think it's the worst game in the world, kinda like how I feel with Aces.)
I don’t think Camelot is making this game. It’s Next Level Games right?
@@justinstephens8432 Yeah, it’s being developed by Next Level Games, which is why people have more confidence in Battle League. Though, I’m afraid that it’ll also fall to Nintendo’s “finish in later” practice.
I dont think the finish it later tactic isnt just Nintendo either, I think its an industry wide thing
I agree with you. This incomplete game trend has made me skip some games for a while. The best example is Mario party superstars. I was so hyped when it was announced but when the roster was revealed it became a red flag for me. The same has happened to me again with strikers and I'm so sad about it, but can't help it and feel disappointed with these spinoffs...
It's not only the lack of a decent roster and content but the essence of the games. The characters feel like generic characters and don't have the appeal they used to have. I'm afraid there won't be the hyper violent celebration and losing animations in this game... It feels so focused on the team and they don't even have their trademark colors... There's no tank tops for peach, there's no daisy... Even when the animations are gorgeous it doesn't feel right...
@@ColdHighway7
Oh yeah, for sure.
There are countless examples outside of Nintendo's games.
I'm hoping there will be characters to unlock and that's why we've not seen Daisy in the game.
This game is conflicting. I dunno if it's just me being extremely pessimistic (calling this Strikers Ultra Smash), but no game has ever left me feeling this way. I love the original and Charged, and I want to be excited for this game. I think it'll be fun, the gameplay will be good, but concerned about the content. I want to buy this game, but I don't know if I will if it's another Aces and Super Rush deal.
Yeah, idk how people can compare this to trash like Ultra Smash.
Animations are complex and clean, there are MANY of them, characters still have their personality, they just aren't ALL edgy.
Roster is small, but characters are made with way more effort compared to any other mario sport spinoff, INCLUDING old strikers games.
I can definitely live waiting for other characters to come via DLC if this is the quality standard. I would love unlockables as well, but I can deal with free later updates for this game.
@@just_a_folk95 Comparing it to Ultra Smash might be very hyperbolic, but considering how awful Mario Golf: Super Rush was, it wouldn't surprise me if history repeated for Battle League.
Content is a big concern I have for the game. Look at Aces and Super Rush, they launched bare bones but got "free content updates to flesh the game out". But people were turned off by the little amount of content at launch and stopped caring by the time these games were complete. Online was dead too.
Super Rush wasn't just a disappointing game, it was a bad game. It's the worst entry in the Mario Golf series. Soulless animations, lack of content and variety, horrible and nonsensical adventure mode, shallow gameplay, difficulty spikes, dumb AI, no side content, and when it launched, there was NOTHING to work towards in the online. The menu for it can easily be compared to Ultra Smash.
You can really tell which games matter to Nintendo. They delay Zelda because they respect the series. Then you have the New Super Mario Bros series, specifically 2 and U, they were made simply to cash in on the 2d Mario craze that DS and Wii started. With Paper Mario ever since Sticker Star they just ran with the idea that all Paper Mario should be is a generic 3d adventure game with pointless turn based battles, but with funny dialogue so that the fans don't get too angry, and they knew it would sell well because Mario always sells well. And on a side note, you know how Nintendo says they won't make a new F-Zero because they don't have any new ideas for the series? Well guess what, it's the same thing for Mario Kart, except Mario Kart doesn't count because they don't need to innovate the series for it to sell well. So basically Nintendo only truly cares about 3d Mario games, anything else is mainly just for money and not much else. I miss when all Mario games didn't feel like shameless cash grabs.
For paper mario, at least origami king was really sweet
"They respect Zelda"
"They only care about mainline 3D Mario"
DOES NOT COMPUTE
And did F-Zero EVER sell well? It's clearly a strictly hardcore game series despite being decently known. And Mario Kart DID have serious innovations. And they pretty much stopped making new Mario Kart entries, too; why make a new full-priced game that could hardly add much when you can make half-priced DLC for a game practically EVERYONE ALREADY has? Clearly better for both Nintendo AND its customers. Or do you think the boatloads of casuals and money raked in from them shouldn't count and that games should be strictly a hardcore pursuit? Would you rather Nintendo work hard to please only you, or work smart to please everyone?
As for "shameless cash grabs", if it took so long to get to that point, it's called "having a good run". Video game serieses don't need to go on forever. Mega Man's numbering is all but self-parody now, especially with how much MM11 sucks. Series burnout is a real thing.
@@CarbonRollerCaco this
At least they take risks with Paper Mario with different concepts but they should really make a traditional turn based rpg again.
The most they ever do with F-Zero is rerelease very old games. And come up with excuses.
I hate how now they're using only well known recurring characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Wario, or the Mario Party original cast for short. They're also deleting some characters like the ukikis, Shy Guys, Bowser Jr, Diddy Kong, Hammer Bro and so on. They're also over simplifying everything like not adding any original characters like the Game Masters on Mario Party, replacing them by Toad and Toadette, using the same colors (really colorful games where strikers charged or Mario Party 8 were had kinda darker colors), I feel like they just want to restrict us to the original spin offs cast + Rosalina and I really don't like it :/
Nintendo makes these games look like filler content until their big games are ready. They are aggressively releasing games every couple of months, but they have severe content issues.
Honesty, I do feel like the reason behind the roster being so minimal is mainly on Nintendo and not Next Level Games.
The environments are less edgy than the previous games, the fewer characters, no returning stages, and not a bunch of themes used. It all seems like Nintendo isn't putting care into their multi player games on the Switch. There are exceptions, but there are also obvious examples.
Heck, I had this weird theory that they've been trying to phase out Daisy for Rosalina due to a lack of relevancy, but it doesn't hold much ground to be accurate.
At this point, it's starting to look like a pattern of repeat behavior than just an oddity.
Nintendo. The kings of taking 1 step forward two steps back.
Daisy appeared in Mario Golf Super Rush and Mario Party Superstars.
Even with games like Super Mario Odyssey, Luigi Mansion 3, and Mario + Rabbids series exist, Nintendo have an obsession with stripping away creativity and charm to the Mario Spin-offs.
Have you seen the animations of this game? That’s my guess as to why there’s only 10 characters. Quality over quantity.
@@NegativKreep It’s Nintendo. They could’ve put more characters in with the same quality if they wanted to
The Kritters have not been in a mainline DK game since 1999 and have only appeared in spinoffs until 2008 so its no surprise why they arent used as goalkeeper anymore because they are technically dead
Nintendo needs to revive their old IPs then because Kritter looks way cooler than Boom Boom
After playing Charged, my expectations are pretty much set for the game. I'm new to the Mario sports games and it was honestly pretty fun. Wierd that Rosalina is there (which is cool to see) but not Daisy lol
Rosalina is amazing! ❤️
Same, I just got Charged and this game is honestly amazing
Rosalina is the best 😍

@@springblastyanimations1104 Yeah I love playing with Sky Guy.
No Daisy, no purchase.
The roster is probably small due to the equipment gimmick, they have to balance the game not only around 10 characters but also all their gear combos.
I’d rather have more characters with differing abilities than the gear
@@Ketchup1810 Agreed
I absolutely love strikers and have been dying for a new entry for years. Of course there is always a catch since my fave character, Daisy, got cut for unknown reasons. I’d be ok if they added her with an update later down the line, I’m kinda banking on that lol, just really sad to see yknow :(
Daisy is not cut lmao she's just not in the main roster,no need to be sad. I don't jnderstand where you all got the idea that Daisy has been taken out of the game when it's not even out and its obviously not the final roster, sheesh.
If you ever feel stupid, just remember: Nintendo delayed Animal Crossing: New Horizons so the game could launch complete, but it still lacked all its content on release, and even when it finally got all its content last year, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, a 3DS game, still had more content than New Horizons. I still love New Horizons, but I’m disappointed that it didn’t live up to its full potential. And when the final update dropped, I finally came back to it after a long break because I got bored of it, but I stopped playing it because I got bored again. Free updates done right can keep players engaged sometimes, but done wrong, it makes them lose interest.
Also Animal Crossing: New Leaf had all its content at launch. The only update it got was the Welcome amiibo update, which was a great bonus feature to customize your town residents.
I always trusted Next Level to absolutely nail everything. It was Nintendo that I knew would hold this game back, and sure enough, they did.
I say, what I always say: if you are fed up with their marketing strategy, STOP BUYING THEIR PRODUCTS!! The only reason why publishers pull off stuff like this is because it's profitable apparently..
I see no extra stage gimmicks as well as the animations for character scoring seem toned down. Like, Bowser just jumping instead of the roar and flex, Peach doing a few calm cartwheels instead of the pop star posing for the cameras, and I shudder to think if they removed Waluigi's most signature move.
3:31 - If they really did start making Battle League around that time, things are even worse.
That would mean shit like Covid messed with early development and they had even less time to make it.
If that wasn't a factor then that amount of time, while not ideal, would've been fairly manageable to create something good.
At least for a simple sports game like this. (Not like it had a big adventure mode or something, to worry about.)
I am in a similar boat, I think the overall core gameplay will be just as addicting even if toned down in the attitude department (When I say attitude I mean ATTITUDE, not animations or personality as I see people having difficulty separating those terms) especially with the seeming lack of captain and teammate interactions and battle damage, it just looks more fluid and soft, it's not a bad thing, just not the strikers attitude we'd come to know and love.
That said, as long as they can give this game real dlc support, not just backfilling the characters that are usually in these games and calling it a day then I am willing to give it a pass. I just hate that as soon as Super Rush started feeling like a worthwhile experience they cut support, and really don't want that for this game.
strikers was made popular thanks to the cool characters
the way we got only 10 and Daisy isn't even there is depressing
My personal theory for why Nintendo is releasing games without all the content isn’t due to time. They are holding back content purposefully to keep the player base “engaged”
Except that kinda approach doesn't work as the online community is dead by the time enough updates come out because there wasn't enough at launch to keep them engaged and it just makes a positive feedback loop (which is actually a bad thing compared to a negative feedback loop) where people who want to try the new content or just revisit the game months later can barely find any games and when they leave the game other people the try to play find even less matches leading to the online playerbase deserting the game making the game dead even though it might have "sold well". Arms especially was annihilated by the approach and if the game lacks singleplayer or even local multiplayer content then the game won't have much value only a couple months after it was released.
As long as toad is here im happy
same
Personally I disagree. I believe that the reason the roster is lacking is because of the emphasis they’re putting on the gear mechanic. Having 4 gear pieces for each character, with multiple different sets and styles, all developed to fit each character probably took a lot of time to perfect, and I think this is why the roster is so small. They’ve clearly emphasized customization in the trailers so I think it’s clear that that’s the main reason. Still though, I really hope this game gets more characters added to its roster. My dream would be for it to have a roster of like 25, but I think in reality the final roster is gonna be around 16-20 characters, which I guess I’d be fine with.
Yep this is pretty much it but I wouldn't mind having other characters just be reskins, as in having the same stats as someone else.
I think because of the gear system is why the character roster lacking. You can take your character and your prefer stats for them and make a team consist of this. Characters are more like a preset design than their own character. If they add more later, I would not care because of what I said, but if they do, I would love to make a team that consist of Yoshi, Dry Bones, Shy Guy, and Luigi.
It’s like the new Mario Sports games just focus on looking good than filling up on content.
Lack of Contendo
Battle league overall to me looks like a dumbed down version of charged, charged had a lot of really good ideas and fun mechanics, i really can’t remember the first game as much because it was just basic soccer with Mario and a handful of characters, charged expanded way more on what the first game did which made it a good sequel
This (so far) does not expand on its prior game, I’m not saying battle league looks bad but it replaces some of the ideas from charged and simplifies them instead of keeping them or making them better
It looks to me like there’s only a handful of characters (and other content) because A. You can completely overhaul your character with their gear B. They’ll add more if the game doesn’t sell well on day 1 C. They’re pushing this online clan system to get more sales for switch online, or D. all of the above
I've been very pessimistic on the game, even calling it Strikers Ultra Smash. The amount of content and the core gameplay is what matters the most for me. I'm hoping they don't dumb down everything and simplify the mechanics like what Camelot did with Super Rush and for the LonelyGoomba, that series is ruined for him.
The Ultra Smash comparison comes from a tweet made by the user above, on how there could be only one actual stadium and the only differences are cosmetic, the stadiums all being the same, only differences being the grass color and emblems. I'm hoping for gimmicks and stage hazards, those added to the fun of Charged.
What I see with Battle League is a possibly bare bones game that while fun, has little content and the focus of the game is on the online aspect. It could be a fun game but lack of content will be it's downfall.
@@therandomguy2212 a modern version of Mario strikers could look like a lot of things, charged is broken as hell but I did appreciate a lot of the concepts in that game and would have liked to see them try them again or fix them
@@therandomguy2212 why no chaos or hazards or fun levels the whole idea is that it’s a warfare
@@therandomguy2212 removing and simplifying things doesn’t make it modern it just dumbs it down, Mario strikers is not a basic soccer game
Let’s make Mario kart 9 but we have to make it modern, the best way to do that of course is to remove the items and make all the tracks depthless circles with no obstacles or hazards, that way the player will not have to think or strategies in anyway when they play it
@@therandomguy2212 I disagree. I prefer a more chaotic, unbalanced experience with this game. I love Mario Kart Wii and it's my favorite in the series for how crazy the items are, even though it does get annoying getting hit with five blue shells in a single race, it's that chaotic element that makes me love the game.
You need content to keep players engaged. Arms, Aces, Super Rush, all mainly multiplayer games launched with not enough content, so people got bored and by the time updates came to flesh those games out people had moved on.
And be careful what you wish for, the AI in some of their recent games has been dumb. In Super Rush, the AI for the CPU were brain dead. They were beyond stupid.
the first game has 13 characters (9 excluding sidekicks)
second one has 19 characters (13 excluding sidekicks)(probably more i didn’t count right)
third one has 10 (still 10)(maybe 12 if there are 2 unlockable characters)
I’m making concept drawings for additions for the game
i even have crazy idea’s like challenges like in charged that probably won’t make true
The fact that they never touched on the single-player/offline content is kinda suspicious, but we'll wait and see
I think I’ll sit this one out. I’ll either spend my money on 3DS VC while I still can or save for Mario Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.
well the only thing that seems to be missing is the unlockable system characters and stages plus previous stages from other games.
And they replaced a lot of the things from prior games with something worse
stages and characters are a big deal tho. this game seems to be having no variety and will get boring pretty quickly.
I think they will add Daisy and some others later, but they did make the change in the team making aspect, now there's just the cast and not divided to captains and others like before having the captain as Yoshi and the team was just Toads as an example and charged still allowed a captain and then you could mix match the team members.
Forget characters for now . We can a few hopefully , but let’s hope they focus on things that potentially need to be polished further , bugs , gameplay modes , levels , and other stuff than just rolling out characters
I had a feeling that Nintendo buying Next Level Games had something to do with this… The roster totally has me puzzled with only ten characters and shoehorning teammates with Toad and Yoshi.
This game was probably given a tight deadline, so NLG would've seen it as more important to make sure everyone has a unique personality, which is a staple of these games. To me, that's the smarter choice to make. You can add more characters later, but you can't completely change existing characters later.
Or they could have just delayed it
Honestly from what I'm seeing I think people are being a bit waaay too judgmental on the game atm, like yeah I get the concerns but people need to remember this is literally just a bit of gameplay footage from like beta testing and trailers intended to show off some of the game's new features to help create hype and give insight, there's likely gonna be more content in the official release coming in June, and like some are thinking there might be something like a DLC or update coming in at a later time adding more content similar to NS Sports.
People are very pessimistic because of the disappointing lack of content and charm the past Switch sports games that Nintendo has made. The trailer does not show enough content to make this look like a solid Strikers game to many people
Not to mention it looks very toned down and cartoony compared to the past strikers games
@@julienherard414 You can clearly see they took elements from both Super Mario Strikers and Mario Strikers Charged when making this game, it may seem a bit cartoony but I suspect they're gonna bring back at least some of the old stadiums from the first 2 games like they done with Mario Strikers Charged bringing back the 7 originals.

Honestly, I feel like this is one of those games were the “downloadable content down the line” would actually work. 10 characters seems a bit too small, bu imo it’s enough to keep players entertained until more come just like Tennis Aces. Then again, the same could been said about characters and boards in Mario Party Superstars yet we haven’t gotten a word about that yet...
I assume they'll be making daisy and bowser jr dlc characters since fans love them, But if they have any plans on delaying the release I hope they can still implement leaders and teams.
I don't think there's any excuse, they've had since Mario Strikers on the Wii to make a new Strikers game
Is De-Mech gonna come annihilate this game if it’s disappointing?
I hope it isn’t, but I really want this game to succeed, so I’ma be real upset if it’s bad.
Nintendo said that they would be having free content updates over the course of the games lifetime, which is basically them saying “we’re releasing the game in an unfinished state and we don’t really care.” Yeah I’m not buying this game anytime soon.
Plot twist: Bowser Jr was grounded and that’s why he isn’t in the game lol
the one upside to not getting everything at once is that we get to act as testers, we give them info and they can add or change stuff with the updates with the content in them as kind of a double edged sword
Thing is it's not just the roster that is an issue. Each individual character is les unique than a individual in charged, there's less modes, "Road to Strikers Cup" had more content and personality than "Cup Battles", no fun gimmick stages to spice things up, less items.
I learned something with this video that I didn't know and it explains many things like why are the kritters gone?? Where's the edgy atmosphere that charged brought?? Where's luigis theme??
And then this video says Next lvl games was bought by Nintendo. That definitely explains the changes.
The game looks babyproofed.
And wtf is with this Boom Boom propaganda??!! Who the hell cares about such a generic character??
I personally don't feel like the changes to the team captain and sidekicks mechanic was a good move.
This game should have a roster like that od Super Mario Sluggers (a game europeans didn't deserve for some reason). If you have to make a team full of different characters you have to add a lot of options to chooce from.
That's way too many characters for the animation quality and quantity put in strikers.
I think you made some good points, but the question is how many time do they have left to continue work on this game before moving on to the next game? From what we've seen so far, not much.
rlly sucks that today's Nintendo seems to not care as much as they used to. They have release many unfinished games recently...
I know I am going to miss kritter, hammer bro, koopa, shy guy and many others, I really wish this game could be delayed and I hope we could get the chance to change goalkeeper and customize it, like we can do with the teammates
in the case of Mario Strikers i don't see why its bad to have a short caracter selection
the caracters don't come with unique movesets/gimmicks (besides specials but those aren't part of your main moveset)
like playing with Luigi doesn't feel different than playing with Donkey Kong (besides stats but this game blurs that anyway with armor)
you could say its "lazy" but aslong as the gamePLAY is fullfilling it doesn't matter (for all i care, given that there are 8 player matches you don't need more that that)
having more choice is appreciated but if it means getting Hammer Bro than im not looking forward to unlocking caracters
If daisy is paid DLC that's a galaxy brain move on their part for people wanting to play as her....... But my ultimate dream is she's the final boss and you unlock her by beating her. Manifesting mode is on!
I hope she is the final boss but if they made her paid DLC people will riot (not in a good way).
And eight days later Nintendo announced that they’re adding characters in free updates
If y'all gonna say about the gear system being the reason why there's a lacking roster, then look at Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled.
CTRNF has a feature where you can massively adjust the racer's stats via speed, turn, acceleration, drift, and balanced presets, changing the way the character plays making it attuned to your playstyle and the character can just be your favorite.
But even then, they still had a lot of characters to choose from, and they continued adding a lot more after the feature was added. So really this still is no excuse to have only 10 unless there is more unlockables, either single player or coins, and Nintendo is just doing poor marketing again.
...unfinished and incomplete are the same thing. Who keeps saying that? Those who do need to crack open a dictionary.
Guess I'll be skipping this game or will be waiting for a decent roster buff if the roster stays this small. I still haven't bought Mario Golf because of that same reason. Not going to be an idiot and pay $60 for a game with this small of a roster. The last installment had more characters and that's a Wii game.
I'm sincerely hoping that this game at least has a somewhat decently-sized roster. Even if the aesthetic is toned down from the edgier-style seen in the first game and especially Charged, for me one of the biggest things I hope for is that this isn't the full roster.
honestly, the aesthetic change going from Charged to Battle League feels like going from Brawl to Smash 4. This game looks hyper-realistic, whereas Charged looked gritty.
Aesthetic can be less edgy, but it's way smoother and higher quality imo
Imagine there’s a campaign where you collect characters to join your team and their just playing us all to get reactions for attention…. Man that’d be SUCH a clever move….
Anyways nintendo No dry bones No Buy Bones.
You sure it's not simply because all character roles are more or less filled by the ten characters? This of course is assuming that the character roster is indeed a) shown fully and b) not being expanded later, which you seem to do.
Isn't just Nintendo having this problem.
Almost every game Publisher wants to milk their Multiplayer games with excessive DLC (example Fighting Games) and some even go as far as pushing Micro Transactions like Loot Boxes (EA, Activision/Blizzard, Ubisoft, Konami and Smart Phone games) so gamers need to pay more money AFTER already buying the game.
That is the reason why I never connected my consoles online and stopped being a modern day gamer after the PS3 and PS Vita systems.
When I saw what Microsoft were originally going to do with the XBox One back in 2013 when they wanted to force everyone to be always online, I saw the writing on the wall for fun Multiplayer experiences and never brought a console or system that was designed with predatory always online agendas.
Nintendo and some smaller Japanese Developers at least still make good single player experiences but when it comes to Nintendo's multiplayer games, unfortunately they are going to become more like smart phone games like Mario Kart Tour but for consoles.
Designed to get more money from the consumer after the initial purchase.
You modern day gamers who support this sort of business model get the industry you deserve.
Nintendo needs to stop with the "finish it later" updates on their sports titles. Give Camelot the reins and let them do what they did with tennis and golf power tour.
I feel its like a kickstarter thing
You put money in at the start
You get a free demo
You then get the full release for free
Can we please talk about how Rosalina just kicked the fuck out of Luigi at 3:31
A lot of these design choices result from the fifteen year gap, it’s all about online team play, clubs, player and field customization to engage people in playing with one another. The game is approaching things differently than 2007, all I recalled was the gameplay, so honestly most of these criticisms were lost on me. The game looked identical just in dimensional space fields lol, that’s on me. As for the roster it’s disappointing, but I mostly just care about Daisy not being there than the overall number. This game is more animated and expressive than the previous sports games, so I’m not personally worried.
This is the first time we see Rosalina without daisy in a spin off
Does smash 4 count?
Mario and Friends amiibo challenge and Super Mario Bros. Puzzle and Dragons. Possibly Mario + Rabbids IF Rosalina herself appears.
For a while now it has seemed like Nintendo knows whatever they put out will sell well regardless of polish. Pokemon, the Sports games, DLC for MK8, the Nintendo Online Expansion Pass etc. My guess is the small roster is to better justify DLC characters/stages/gear and also offer all that as part of Nintendo Online Expanion pass to make that more appealing as well.
The game is focused more on customization than it is on the roster of characters. I think that’s pretty clear. Have you watched any of the overview trailers? They’re clearly emphasizing the fact that you can customize a character to have the stats that you want them to have. The roster is small because it’s not the focus of the game at all. The focus is on tailoring your character to fit your play style. I would much rather have this level of customization than a roster of 20 characters with many that play exactly the same (examples being Peach/Daisy, DK/Bowser, Mario/Luigi, etc.).
Edit: I don’t think the small roster size has anything to do with Nintendo buying Next Level Games, but that’s just me.
Im really on the fence, yet again nintendo shortcut and the main priority is to appeal to the fans nostalgia whilst neglecting their fan base.
BECAUSE PEOPLE PAY FOR WHAT THEY SHOULDN’T. Why would any thing change
If there isn't any new characters, I'm just not going to buy it, case closed.
Mario Party Superstars is sad because they made a game with old boards and old mini games. Most importantly it’s sad because of how awful Mario party games are nowadays.
I feel like there might be a secret hidden player to unlock maybe 🤔, and a player pack for $9.99 ? Maybe , but I’m waiting for it my friends play FIFA 😅
The only thing is where the hell is the Ball charge when Passing, it made it so much cooler even just because of the Sound it made
Character roster size won't make this game better or worse. Nobody talks about what is in the game, everyone is so concentrated on what is not in it, and I just don't understand that mindset.
Not even Nintendo is talking about what's in it which is why people are getting very suspicious about this game. Again, everybody who is saying these things wants nothing more than to be proven wrong and for these fears to end up just being caused by terrible marketing (similar to the marketing of Splatoon 3) but from what Nintendo has shown us so far, we can't help but be concerned that Nintendo isn't taking this game seriously and that they just want the game out in June no matter the consequences.

There is plenty shown and talked about in this video, so I have to disagree that Nintendo ain't talking about the game or are not promoting it.
And I don't get the argument the game is rushed. If that argument is based on a fact that there are only 10 characters, that is a very flimsy argument.
Sorry if I am coming off as a douche, but I really don't think that peoples worries are based on anything concrete.
The game may suck, but based on what we saw, I doubt it.
I know this video is 3 months old and i literally never found this guy until now, but 1 minute into the video, Demeech sounds like a young Nicholas Cage xD
Nintendo is based.
Boom Boom is just Mario Character Incarnate.
Nintendo can't get enough of those guys.
I wonder why people keep wondering why a popular character is left out when it's pretty clear by now that they're gonna release it as a DLC later to keep interest in the game.
Not to keep interest, nobody has ever kept interest everytime they do this, they just want to see if it sells well without putting in effort, and if it doesn’t sell they add more content to push sales
They tried this with Arms, and Arms was absolutely murdered by this approach.
Funny enough it turns out miyamoto never said that quote and that it was totally misattributed.
Calm down. There will be more characters. Most likely as DLC, but everything's going to be okay don't worry.
The DLC will already be in the game on launch, they just wont let you use it until later
I am sure they are going to add more characters in a free update, they were probably just a little rushed.
This is not justification, dude if the devs need more time to finish the game, GIVE THEM MORE TIME, at least we should get 4 unlockable characters but I just feel disapointing about the game
If kritters didn't get into the dkc returns games than i don't think Mario strikers would have them
I think they wanted the new Mario Strikers to release near the start of the World Cup but since the World Cup has been delayed I was hoping Battle League would to. I also noticed a similar pattern with Tennis Aces & Golf Super Rush
The reason this year's World Cup is delayed is because it's being hosted by Qatar and the summer weather there is way worse.
@@edmartinez925 Exactly but I was saying I also hope since the actual World Cup was delayed hopefully Battle League would be as well but I guess it’s not happening
@@BlueFire98 I bet the roster might be complete before the World Cup starts. But I highly doubt it
In switch all games of Mario sports had the potential to be great, but all feels meh, not bad, but also not memorable golf, tennis, soccer, etc...
The roster situation definitely feels like it's all Nintendo's thing, like they ordered NLG to make the game at least functional and to worry about the characters for later updates, and so far, now when you see it in-game, it looks fantastic. But, i mean, if it kinda worked for Golf and Tennis, though those were made by Camelot, i wouldn't doubt nintendo would order the same thing for Strikers.
And though i just said all that conspiracy thing, what makes me hear sounds, is the fact that, in the overview trailer, they didn't even bother to talk about Cup Battles, to me, that makes no sense if you're explaining the game modes, even Quick Battle. Feels like they're obviously hiding something from us
Kritter not returning should have been obvious nintendo has purging any donkey kong series characters from any mario game except DK and sometimes Diddy.
I forget where but I think it was mentioned the original strikers had 7 or 8 months in development? Then Charged was a year and a half. Probably in the GameXplain interview. Strikers on a tight deadline doesn't seem new lol
i wanna see my boy funky kong in the updated roster
This game missed on a lot. A field customization that means nothing. The character list is on trend like Superstars and Golf, lacking. Critter has to be the goalie, plain and simple. You are supposed to improve the game, and I feel like for strikers purposes, it took a major step back. I know they focused on team and online play a lot, but I dont find that an excuse because the actual game itself is lacking. The only thing I can see why the past couple games are the way that they are, is that the team is working on a major project. And I hope that's the case.
Technicaly you get 16 characters since you can have 4 yoshis and toads
This don’t even look like the game the road teammates were a big identity of it
I hope there are unlockables that we can get we just don’t see them
I love how everyone is making a big deal about this! Battle League is in-between the other two! This game only has 2 less characters than Charged! And 2 more than the first game! Daisy Petey and Diddy Kong were replaced for now! Not sure what the issue is lmao
well the thing is that i dont like about many reviews.. the game is barely coming out.. im 100% sure they are going to have dlc, new fields, characters, etc with dlc. from what i do see from many reviews.. they like the game but they give a negative on 2 big things: 1) no solo campaign, 2) too few characters. im 100% sure both coming, they just want to see how the game goes financially to see if its worth investing more into this game. 🤔
I mean nothing has been shown saying that there's going to be free content update like when Nintendo switch sports was revealed
Correction: Nintendo Switch Sports isn't a full price the price for switch sports is 39.99.
But it should've been like $20-$30 if it wasn't going to be a pack-in title like the OG Wii Sports, and if it wasn't going to have Resort's at least double amount of content compared to the 1st game ( & the actual switch sports they released). Basically Nintendo needs to release more games for less than $40 if they're going to have a lack of content like this; even moreso if the game is almost exclusively online since you're already paying a $20 subscription fee annually to do basically anything in the game. I can kinda understand Aces since it was released a few months before the paid NSO launched (doesn't make it okay though) but I basically consider the $40-$60 range to be full price and games like switch sports should be less than that.
