I left out a few things because I didn't want to make the video longer since it's already quite lengthy. I hope this helps those who aren't familiar with Yoshi.
To append to DB3,3 counterplay: The mid followup and the low have a 12 frame gap, and it jails, so if you block any of the lows, MASH your i11 WS punish and you will get it as an option select Duck after DF1 every time, DF1,4 isnt a mixup as it jails, and DF1, DF1 can be fuzzied and stepped and interrupted CD2 is punishable CD1 is LAUNCH punishable FCDF4 doesnt give much of a mixup on hit, and another FCDF4 will lose to an i13 mid DB1 is seeable so practice seeing it (very unique animation too) Learn your frames, the Yoshi might know your character better than you do, so be ABSOLUTELY SURE on whats +4 or less, and of options that beat flash, spins, or a well buffered roo kick.
this actually taught me what not to do with yoshi more than how to fight him. I had no clue df1,4 jailed. I do know that fighting against someone who has great matchup knowledge against yoshi levels your game up immensely. makes you learn how to make use of raw stances and single pokes.

I think learning to duck and punish after df1 and the 3,1 string alone can make it easy to beat many yoshis until gold ranks. Make sure you punish all of his super risky things like fc df4 and even flash. Unfortunately this character has a habit of putting himself into 50/50s more than his opponent since his risk/reward is usually negative. Just don't mash or use guaranteed flashable moves/strings (which you should always learn as it is like 3 per character) and it becomes very hard to actually land flash. For god's sake stop mashing tech roll then complain you got swept when you've made no attempt to avoid it.
Hey thanks for the video man I still feel that Yoshi is a lot to play against, he may not be great on the offense but is really hard to offense against. I feel like he's really good at 0, 1 and 2 range with an option for anything Ill be sleeping myself to this for the next couple weeks so no Yoshi will ever cheese me again and only the real good ones are able to beat me :) Thanks for your dedication
Yoshi is incredibly frustrating, but he definitely doesnt have everything. Yoshi isnt a traditional top tier in that he is perfect, the character has weaknesses and can lose, but his strength is that what he does, he does far too well. In a game who's meta revolves around very close range so much, Yoshi has defensive tools that disregard too many situations. Situations the vast majority of the cast have to hold, and wager life or death on one read, Yoshi creates incredible hesitation and skews risk reward to be uniquely favourable, requiring the rewiring of offensive flowcharts simply from the rules he breaks, top 15 bare fucking minimum. But Yoshi with all his damage and insane defense also has a lack of: Power mids Any meaningful lows outside of oki Plethora of plus frames Looping pressure or offense in general Very few actually threatening 50/50s Poor hitboxes that malfunction even more than they did in 7 A jab with a very poor hitbox And flash as a move isnt as spammable as you might think, whiffing in alot of regular situations youd expect it to work on the surface. If you really get into this matchup and learn the most common flowcharts, you will MINCE 90% of Yoshi players (because theyre SEVERELY carried) i believe in you man, shit isnt easy ;-;
this video is great, but do you know how to deal with flash? feels like such a insane move, I get lauched all the time, sometimes I get plus and then boom parry lauch, so annoying
Don't use big frame moves as I mentioned in this video. Also, when you play against Yoshi, always keep in mind that he has flash. If you pressure him too much, you will get hit by it. This will help you mash less against Yoshi. Additionally, if you expect flash, always pause after plus frames or sidewalk, and be ready to launch Yoshi. Soon, he will change the timing of his flash, and then you will have to adapt as well.
@@devinnoel9066 thank you for your reply, but I’m still having a hard time understanding. So stepping into the foreground is not available. Does this have something to do with some leg animations needing to recover quicker?

Why are you pretending that any yoshi uses regular moves instead of just gimmicking people without yoshi fighting experience
very helpful as a yoshi main, this helps with tweaking my own gameplay by showing his weaknesses. great video!

If you use Yoshi on both players, it gets confusing what you are trying to explain because you keep switching sides.
