Great classic movie and what a fantastic performance by Loretta Young. At first I did not like the colorisation quality but soon forgot all about it due to the plot and great acting all round.
There’s a haunting otherworldly quality to the colorization of this movie, which fits the movie incredibly well. To be fair, any black and white movie colorized has a haunting otherworldly quality which can work-and when it works, it works amazingly well.

@Johnny Civello , colour can be beautyful, but it isn't what the film maker made, so a colourized film destroys a lot of the beauty and work that went into the original photography. Fortunately this film is also available in its original form as Wells intended it to be seen on this channel as well

This is a terrific film. The unstable unreal poorly done tinted effects are just an insult to all involved. If colorisation cannot be done correctly, and I’ve seen some that are, then it should not be done at all.
I don't understand how anybody can think AI colourisation is an improvement. It looks horrible. The colours don't even stay consistent from frame to frame. It totally butchers the beautiful black-and-white cinematography.
100% concur, it is in the nuances, this is what they work so very hard for! Especially the stairway & clock tower! You see that in black-and-white it can truly give you vertigo!
I think it looks kinda...neat, in a weird way, as a fun little exercise. But I don't see it, here or anywhere else, as any sort of improvement and certainly not anything that could possibly replace the original films. Unless, of course, you're someone (oddly enough, my elderly mother is this way) that simply can't stand watching b/w films or television programs.

Love this movie, but not a fan of colorization. It's distracting and takes away from the quality of the original film as the nuances of the light & shadows, often such a critical element to b&w film making, is lost.
Yeah, colorization is a fun little exercise, I suppose, but it can't match the original films. And I think it has very limited appeal. It's certainly not designed to wow "movie buffs" or more serious students of film or film history, so there must be some slim market out there of people who simply don't like to watch b/w films. *sighs* Poor bastards.

Colorized is OBVIOUSLY totally fine if people actually watch and enjoy them more. There's NO argument about that. But I own the B/W DVD just for disclosure.

Great movie for historical reasons. Shows what the world was going through towards the end of WW2 and how Nazis tried to flee and infiltrate our communities. It was always said , some of the scientists were brought over due to project paper clip, But interesting to see some Nazis tried to escape into other countries. So…. Where did they end up ? We all should remember.
"Germania delenda est" -- "Germany must be destroyed." I remember that sentiment from after WWII. It was not Allied policy, however. The policy was to reform German government and welcome the Germans into a peaceful world.

Get a clear pair of glasses, and wet the lenses. Then get some oil (perhaps motor oil) and smear that on. Watch the movie through these irridescent swirls. Voila; the colourisation effect.
Not a fan of the colour. But they always link to the B&W. I also have an option on my TV to show without colour. My biggest issue is the closed captions. I can understand having to truncate. But why change words in the script that don't need changing. "Awful" changed to "horrible". Or changing "you're a bad influence" to "you're a bad example" Yeah, don't do that.
Leave these films alone. Its a good film.Colourisation ruins it there is no need. Was made in black and white. Should stay in black and white. Gives it more atmosphere in its original form.

Color is easier on the eyes because the brain doesn't have to work hard to determine what the shapes are.
Classic B&W films shouldn't be colorised, it's a crime... It looks atrocious. Thumbs down
