Old egg cartons work a treat. Though you do need to tear them into pieces but its not hard to do. Looking forward to your next episode.

Cheers crew, good info. Might be nice to follow up on the different types of smokers. Eg Shielded ones, cheap bellows vs expensive, sizes, how to clean the smoker when they gum up with resin, replacing bellows, What do you do with the burnt material AKA disposal, (Hot vs Cold), additives people use to calm bees, Lighters, How to avoid melting your veil when lighting, What to do in a total fire ban. Just some ideas that may help people! Cheers for sharing the info, Stay safe!

OMG this couldn't have come at a better time.... I've got my hives,.. all painted just like you told me Mark... the suit is coming although I could use the one that I got for the hubby,... and now I need a smoker,.. I've just asked in a FB group which is the best one to get,.. and although there's a lot on the market the most expensive is not necessarily the best one to get!!!

Another video I looked at the title.
And find myself thinking. " Could be good. Could be sh1tt" 😅
    Great as always.
Hope all my friends down under, are enjoying the weather.
Expecting 8-12 inches of snow ( 20-30 cm) later today. Here in states. Southern Minnesota to be a bit more exact. Upside is, we'll probably have a white Christmas.
    Downside. It's getting " Bloody Flippin cold"🥶
    Best wishes .And Merry Christmas

What I found with cardboard is to use corrugated and roll it, similar to how you use hessian. It burns up really fast, though. There isn't much fuel there.

The smoke doesn't make the bees go and gorge themselves on honey, what's happening is the smoke particles are coating their pheromone receptors so they can't communicate with each other so well, so they don't warn each other that there's a human opening their hive. It's like the bee equivalent of turning off the volume. This makes them get confused, so they wander around wondering what's going on and go deeper into the hive to try to pick up the queen's pheromone signal. Eventually they figure out why they can't pick up any pheromone signals and clean themselves, which is why it's necessary to keep gently smoking the hive periodically.

Green grocers might have a few Hessian sacks due to spuds usually are packed in Hessian sacks

Probably one thing that should be mentioned is a total fire ban day means 💯 no fire but love your work 👍🏽

I don’t like the hessian smell. I use pine needles and your dead right about the extra chore of keeping the smoker clean.
I also put a couple handfuls of green grass on the top and it helps keep the smoke cool🍺🍺
