  • Running Dungeons and Dragons can be tricky; there's a lot of things you can do to make your players more immersed and having a great time, but are they all worth the effort?
This one is! When running the game, give your players more room for self expression and more reasons to fall in love with their characters by letting them reskin and reflavor their magic to be whatever they'd like it. Confused as to how that would work? This is the video for you!
Magic videos are coming, you jackals.

My grave cleric has a lot of spells flavored as the ghost of her pet dog manifesting fully or in part. Spirit Guardians is him lunging at any enemies that come too near to her. Spiritual Weapon is just the claws manifesting, or dashing out to attack something if up at the same time as Spirit Guardians. She just gained the ability to summon a Couatl as we head into the final leg of this campaign, which I'm flavoring as the most complete and tangible manifestation of her dog. Also, any fear effect she uses (like her wand of fear) has her eyes turning black and beady because of the raven-like demon lord she wrested a small bit of power from.

Oh, and yeah the Magnus Archives reference was definitely not something I was expecting here.

I have a wizard character her big story was about her moving on from her husband's death. It has resulted in her spells all including symbols of mourning summoning gauzy veils, half wilted Rose's, skulls, bones and the musty smell of a funeral parlor.

    Good Stuff!
One of my players ran a warforged cleric of Knowledge that had a modron theme... guarian spirits, for example, was a swarm of small modron sprites that wheeled around the aoe... when using the channel divinity feature to acquire skills it would be machine code filtering through the ethernet that the 'forged would hack into for the duration, before losing the thread.
another warforged bard had a boombox built into it's chest and would blare whatever thrash metal was en vogue at the table for the moment.
