I used to stay up watching Nightmare Theater with my dad on TV late Friday nights. This was in the mid 1960's when I was between eight and ten years old. There was a movie about a giant spider that really got to me and gave me nightmares. Most of those old movies didn't bother me and I loved spending this personal time with my dad.
Gonna have to fight for Neverending Story here. It was my favorite movie as a child and it has the perfect balance of fantasy/whimsy and character struggles for both protagonists. Like the story is so fascinating and i cant think of another movie like it. Only thing ill say is age 4 and 6 is WAY too young, that's more of a 9-12 age range just for the visual aspect like it would be scary for ages 4 and 6
The story lady should have been more prepared by having food in her house, knowing that she lived so far from a store. Anyone should be better prepared than that!
I completely understand why the kids parents are so mad at OP. OP put on a movie they shouldn't have been watching at all, and fed them pop tarts instead of popping to the local shop for something better. And now these kids are having nightmares about the movie. They have every right to be upset by OPs actions as they trusted their kids with OP during an emergency, and she let them down and broke their trust and traumatised their very young kids. If I was OP, I would of just read them a book, played pretend, or put something age appropriate on for them to watch on my phone (TH-cam or Netflix or something), until the parents got home. I know OP had limited options on what to do / watch, but for kids ages 2+4 none of those movies available were appropriate. And they could of done anything else instead of watching a movie. Also if all you have for food is pop tarts, go to the shop. OP could of taken the kids to the shop and made a fun evening out of it, maybe got a few little bits for an indoors pick nick or something. Doing anything else would of been a better option than what OP actually did. I'm not surprised the parents are mad at OP, and I think they won't be asking OP to babysit again (even in an emergency) for a very long time. The best thing OP can do now is apologise, ask for forgiveness, then give them some time and space, until they are ready/ able to move past this... And offer to pay for therapy for the kids if these nightmares don't go away. OP just added so much more stress to these parents who are already having a stressful time with the husband needing to go to the hospital for a broken leg after falling off the roof. That poor family. It's gunna be awhile before they can trust OP again. OP is definitely the AH in this situation.

As a child I much preferred the cartoon version. A lot less creepy!
Such a great movie and a classic for me as a kid also!
I love The Brave Little Toaster! It has some weird parts but I love it!
You should rewatch it!
Neverending Story should absolutely be watched a second time as an adult. It hits very differently and is just as good.
For me at least, I watched it as an adult and that’s when I hated it. I didn’t hate it as a child, even though it’s creepy af.
