Does this take into account if he’s facing a lefty or righty pitcher? Because it could be he’s better batting lefty vs a right pitcher as opposed to batting righty vs a righty pitcher.
as a switch hitter, he’s always batting the opposite side of where the pitcher throws from. its a lot easier to handle breaking balls when they break into you, the hard part is perfecting mechanics on two sides of the plate
@@joeklaps4708 I did see that he batted RH against a knuckleballer and Zack Greinke too, as have other switch hitters. To the point, if the Braves wanted him to bat RH exclusively, they likely would have told him so already.
Ozzie is not a bad lefty hitter hes pretty good! I watch the braves everyday time they play and from the right size hes a MVP player but from the left size hes an All-star player. And this year he has more at bats from the left side and he's All-star. Ozzie is special!
After this video, Albies had an .858 OPS with 11 HR in 245 PA left handed for the rest of the season. And had an .818 OPS with 0 HR right handed in 50 Plate Appearances.
There's a stigma with pretty much every manager that you need to get hitters advantage with lefty right matchups, I wish they would look more into the numbers.
If you looked too close at these numbers you would suffer from omission bias. If you said he should only hit righty because his numbers are better as a righty, that would be dumb because he literally has zero ABs as a righty against a righty. That means you have zero data to go off of to say he’d be better of hitting purely as a righty.
@@Cohdiboi yes, that is what the platoon advantage is for, as a righty can make a ball break to their glove side a lot further than their arm side. Also known as seeing the ball from both arms
@@pohorex6834we’re saying the same thing. When you said “see the ball well from both arms”, I originally thought you meant seeing the ball coming out of the pitcher’s hand, not seeing the break.
One thing tho about the whole switch hitting thing is… He has a .335 BA against lefties. But how would he fare going against right handers from the right side? At that point you’re contending with pitches you haven’t seen from the same side such as sliders. It’s all just a guessing game as to what would happen if he stopped switch hitting
Do you know how many non switch hitters have those same splits against lefty/right arms? I'm sure he tried that but it's not as simple as just doing it. For example, he would have to get used to sliders breaking away from him and 2 seamers breaking in on him which he never had to worry about before. Normally your vids are pretty interesting but this is just how it is for a lot of switch hitters.
I would say if he kept hitting bad from that side drop it like Cedric Mullins dropped his weak side. But he’s not hitting bad either side of the plate this season.
Its a little selfish of him to not just stay on the right side. Hes a free out basically from the left, he may accidentally run into one and park it but still
The real question is if he stops switch hitting an goes righty permanently how will he do batting righty vs righty pitcher ? I believe he could still be good but you never know.. I mean Shane Victorino did it one year and did decent but you can never predict how good he will be til he actually does it lol
@@bunkydamonkey1225 yeah, but what I’m saying is that he has so much more potential from the right side. If it works out he could be one of the best hitters in baseball, instead of a good but not great player.
Are you basing that purely off the number of HRs he has? Because if you are you’re completely ignoring the fact that the majority of his ABs are as a lefty hitter.
If Cedric Mullins could do it, Abies currently could. Mullins when from a mediocre switcher do a 30/30 hitter once he focused on his dominate left side.
Difference for Mullins is if he’s a natural lefty, quitting switch hitting means he’s bailing on switch hitting against ~25% of pitchers. Albies is a natural righty, which means he’d be bailing on switch hitting against ~75% of pitchers.
Honestly... those aren't bad numbers for the left side. Plus it's the player's choice if they wanna do such a feat like this. He may be a switch hitter because of the curveball or slider breaking away from him batting right handed. This debate about switch hitting is getting outta control anyways, let the batters do what they want
.760 ops from the left side, 1.101 ops from the right side. should be noted that most of his ab’s are from the left bc most pitchers are righties, so his counting stats are inevitably higher from the left
Well considering he faces about 80% more righties hes going to have a lower average. You analytics people kill me. How about reserach how many ab's he has lefty compared to righty in his career. For the 2023 season he only has 81 at bats right handed and 280 left handed.
Hitting both lefty and righty is actually a lot healthier for your hips and spine to keep everything balanced and not cause any injuries. So hitting lefty is actually helping his righty swing believe it or not.
Keep in mind the majority of his ABs are as a lefty hitter so he will naturally have more HRs from that side. Also worth noting his home ballpark has a short right field wall.
.760 ops from the left side, 1.101 ops from the right side. he is a good power hitter lefty but terrible at getting on base. should be noted that most of his ab’s are from the left bc most pitchers are righties, so his counting stats are inevitably higher from the left
dont tell him that, i need him to be switch hitter for mlb the show
So true😂
Same
chances are, even if he stops switch hitting, he’ll still have the attribute in MLB the Show
Anecdotal, but hit 2 homers last night (7/4) against the Guardians from the left last night.
Thank you.......seen that my boi
He’s picked it up from the left side here latlety

Yep
@@heyimmax956 lol sorry. Driving while responding. He also liked good last night last night.
Ozzie is actually getting much better as a lefty
Ever since you posted this vid on your second channel he has raked against righties
The absolute missiles he hit from the left side the past week begs to differ
Recently he has been hitting bombs from the left side so I think he should stay switch hitting. It gives him a good advantage
Important to keep in mind he’ll naturally have more homers hitting lefty since the majority of his ABs come hitting left handed
Does this take into account if he’s facing a lefty or righty pitcher? Because it could be he’s better batting lefty vs a right pitcher as opposed to batting righty vs a righty pitcher.
The only times I've seen Ozzie bat RH against a RHP is if it's a position player pitching. As far as I can recall, anyway.
as a switch hitter, he’s always batting the opposite side of where the pitcher throws from. its a lot easier to handle breaking balls when they break into you, the hard part is perfecting mechanics on two sides of the plate

He’s fantastic this year
U can’t say he’s below average when he’s been on track for two 30 home run seasons in a row
Well this year he is quite good from the left side
much more powerful from the left side
He’s been way better left handed than in previous years
i just saw him play and he got a triple hitting from the left side

I think he’s turned this around because in his last 20 games or so he’s batting .350+ from the left side
he’s only facing the side he as an advantage against tho.

He hit a walk off, bomb into the chophouse from the left side not too long ago

People in these comments clearly don’t understand the reason why you switch hit. It’s to avoid ever facing a breaking ball that moves away from you.
