      @@Ayisha4889 This video only shows to girls that housewive isn't a dream job. For rich housewives, who have a good earning husband and many servants (cook, driver, maids etc.) and only 1 kid or no kids at all, maybe. But for the majority, (middle class and poor) it can become a nightmare. So, in times where the female workforce participation (even before Corona) is going down.
      The girl parents should realise that it's the best for girls, if they try to become financially independent and girls should try to work after marriage. Boys should be teached to do household chores from small age and to share household chores with wive in marriage, if no maid is hired.
      And, if living with in-laws, they should also realise that this is the best for her, and her wish and her life.

    This behaviour is inspired by the believe women are inferior. Not only in-laws, this treatment starts with their own families even before marriage. We need to change our attitude and perspectives towards gender equality, also many of these women don't know about their rights due to regressive social conditioning.

    The other cause can be that at a small age, daughters are asked to help in household chores but boys are not due to which a mindset is set that household is to be managed by girls not boys due to which women rather than earning their own money starts relying on men and men think that they should not work in home . Most of the people in the comment section are talking about financial independence. I completely agree that being financial independent is important but guy's everything starts from home for example: In my house whenever guests come, my brother used to go to the kitchen and start doing preparation in order to serve guests as I can communicate well with the guests. I think that's absolutely normal. My parents especially my mother always made sure that my brother also take part in the household chores and I guess change starts from home.
    We should emphasize more on this.

    If both husband wife do job then they both should do household works together if one of th does job then the person at home should take the responsibility of household works but if the person who is homemaker gets sick then if possible the person who does job should take leave from job and take care of the person.... parents should teach household chores equally to girl/boy so that they'll hv knowledge about it.... The point where Mohak said that the development in roads and infrastructure leads to more participation of women in non household activities is very important. Intiative of government to develop rural areas and provide employment opportunities to women will make a huge positive difference in the suicide and harrasment rate of women in India. For this, the best measure one can take in his life is to not take dowry and do not appreciate someone else's dowry taking activities.

    I am from East coast India, Here violence against women is one kind of social custom. But forget about national media not even regional channel covers those cases.
    My mother is a working woman and incomes more than my father. Still my father beats her, complains about dowry, has control over her salary and bank balance. She can't withdraw money from her account without my father's permission. If she does so she was getting beaten by my father.
    My father hates daughters but unfortunately he has only daughters. From our childhood we are getting harassed because of our gender. When my elder sister reached puberty, my father's hate for women increased by 2x times. When she used to get cramp pain, my father says " women are inferior and dirty species, that's why they suffer like this."

    Not only housewives, Mohak, working women (married) are also prone to suicide.. these abusers including in-laws manipulate, traumatise and threaten the daughter in laws.. domestic violence also include emotional abuses which in itself is detrimental to the married women even more as its harder to prove such abuse especially when our prestigious high courts suggest that taunting, continuous targeting and sarcasm are part and parcel of married women’s life!! Second reason dowry also includes pre marital demands which do not include direct payment to grooms family like following grooms family tradition to purchase certain stuff at the time of and or after marriage even these are for woman herself but it’s forceful when the bride doesn’t want those stuff or could not afford to buy. Also, like spending on Lavish function of marriage, buying certain present for groom as part of tradition.. not only these, most of married women who demand to be treated equally at par with their husband’s, are even forced to do household chores and abandon their work leading them to the deep hole of depression and losing their will to live.

    A third solution for you: Make sure men participate in household chores more often, make sure that your kids get the habit of doing their own household chores and helping others irrespective of their gender, which can help in increasing the participation of men at later age in household chores.
    For me it felt like your solutions was aimed at just helping women to escape household chores, while my recommendation requires your other significant other to participate more in these duties so that they understand the importance of these duties and respect them equally.

    My personal advice to women.
    1. Don't marry early.. Even if you have found someone that you think is the right one. Take your time, go out, see the world and get as much exposure as you can get.
    2. Get a job, even if it is tough to get due to your family, they won't come to help you when you need them. It's mostly the parents of women who gave on them which make them to take drastic step. Always think that it's your life and you have to fight for it.
    3. Always keep in touch with your friends, your 'real friends' and share everything with them someone of your own age will give you better suggestions.
    4. Don't give up on things that keep you happy.
    There is always a better tomorrow waiting for you. Just don't give it up for someone who doesn't loves or cares about you.

    A wife is always considered as a maid to his husband by everyone in the family(including the girl's parents as well) and others. The moment right after marriage, she is supposed to serve his husband, and this is what is expected from society. Whether it is a love or arranged marriage, educated or uneducated family members, homemakers, or working wives, this situation is the same.
    Can you imagine this? A wife waking up after 9PM or sitting on the sofa and asking for coffee/tea or just focusing only on the office work and not doing any house chores. And most importantly not getting judged for everything they do?
    This will never happen. Cultural norms as designed in such a way that the wife has to adjust to everything.
    You all may think this is a petty matter. But all these tiny things pile up for a long time and lead to depression. Wifes may think that they are incapable of even living life on their own terms, how can they achieve so much outside.
    Hats off to the women who are working beyond all these adjustments and achieving their goals.
    Edit: We need make it normal to share responsibilities equally among the husband and wife. No gender specific works should exist. No one should over burdened by the duties they perform.

My neighbour, a housewife, wanted to buy one of them. He literally said, "Apke pati ko bulaiye." She argued that she was an independent, earning house wife, and he was literally shocked. He said, "Humare Rajasthan mei gharki aurto ko kaam nahi karne dete. Aur agar kam kia to marte hai." I live in Pune, what all I've witnessed is abuse, but this was quite weird for me. Apart from all the well researched points in the video, I would also like to add that India (and I suppose most of Asia) is an extremely patriarchic society where women are forced/ expected to bear all atrocities imposed on them in the name of “khandaan ki izzat”. Even a simple thing like helping the wife in the kitchen is so badly looked down upon - I had a colleague in office who was actually proud that he never entered the kitchen in his life, and he was so called “educated” with a masters degree. Imagine the plight of his wife - he may not abuse or beat her physically, but this sort of shoddy treatment is worse than physical pain.

    My mother committed suicide when I was little girl, she was founder and principal of community school. She grew stronger economically & devloped influence in society more than her all in-laws, but it was the reason for phisical and verbal abuse. Her maternal family didn't help as well and she took her life. Even in her suicide note she was explaining her loyalty to me father 😭🙏🏽 may her soul rest in peace!

    Bring up your boys by sensitising them about the non-binary nature of age-old gender roles. In my home, since childhood, I used to see my father helping out my mom in the kitchen whenever my grandfather (her father-in-law) asked her to cook something special. I'm 26 now and both me and my brother are quite adept at not only cooking but other simple household chores like cleaning and brushing (when the maid doesn't turn up) or even doing the everyday puja (when my mother doesn't feel well). Trust me, it helps to build a unique bond with both your parents when they see that their sons are doing such tasks.

    1. Both genders should be financially independent.
    2. Patrilocal system should be avoided. As because of this only parents of male child gets benefitted. Plus, parents who have only daughters become lonely after their daughter marriage. Hence, both gender should move out after marriage and in this way no parent side will feel superior and this may also decrease crimes like dowry and harassment by inlaws towards daughter in law.
    Also due to this patrilocal system:
    In india most of the parents want son. This is a patrilocal society and hence the daughter has to move out and has to live with her inlaws and take care of husband and her inlaws. What about the parents who have only daughter? Who will take care of them when they are old? Only the parents of son gets the privilege to live their oldage life freely and with least loneliness. But what about the parents of only girl child? They will be lonely forever when the daughter will move out after marriage. How will the daughter feel when she knows that her old parents are lonely in their old age and has to work really hard, make money, make food even when they are having old age health related problems and the daughter have to serve her inlwas instead of her own parents. This is very sad and the system has to be changed.

      @jalapenos3793 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @Marz Your reply shows that mindset that how can parents of a son be alone..like they have become alone even they have A SON!!
      I'm just saying that if the couple moves out after their marriage then a particular set of parent won't get all the benefits. As in this society when a daughter moves to her in-laws house she is responsible for all the household chores ( whether she is working woman or not ) and taking care of her inlaws due to this she is totally involved in household chores and that's why no time is left for job. As the no. of member decreases then the work load also decreases and because of this she may get time to apply for job. Also your point of frequent visit to parents and regular phone call can be applied to the son parents also so that they don't feel lonely.

    • @kavyasingh5458
      @kavyasingh5458 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Your thinking exactly matches with mine. Really I wonder if a wife wants to live separetely from in laws she is termed cruel but our traditions which leaves the parents of girls childs alone and thus encourages female foeticides are called culture. Irony!
      Anyways as said jaisi krni waise bharni. Aj isi culture ki wajah se sex ratio dharatal pr pahuch gya aur ladko ko ladkiyan nhi mil rhi shaadi krne ko.

    • @kavyasingh5458
      @kavyasingh5458 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Marz I agree with point no 3 but that frequent visits should be to both set of parents. Because living with one set of parents and just visiting others goes to prove that you get privilege if you have a son. Don't you think this is the root cause that people keep trying to have one son atleast. And in this process either they keep giving birth which means more unwanted girls which are then discriminated against their brother and increased population. Or they kill girl child which leads to bad sex ratio.both scenario is bad.
      So I think treating both set of parent equally is the solution to most of our social problems .

    • @chandrayeedey7462
      @chandrayeedey7462 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Marz you see, it's one thing to get married with the love of your life or have an arranged marriage. I'm taking the best possible scenario, where a girl's in laws also treat her like her parents treated her. But, it's absolutely heart wrenching to move from your own home and then your own home becomes "paraya". The girl is identified as someone coming from her husband's family rather than the family which brought her up. Her sole identity, her family becomes equivalent to her husband's. May be the husband and in laws are great, but that doesn't mean we girls don't want to be associated with our original family like a man associates in his entire life.
      Also, People in the society will judge a woman if she doesn't stay with her in laws no matter how terrible they're. I wish you'd understand how much it takes to leave your home and your family and then become a part of another family whom you've hardly ever known. In your home you can do absolute crazy stuffs, be stupid, be ugly, be dressed however you want, but then after a three day ritual everything changes and you can't become you because you can hardly do anything and be within your own comfort zone when you're with the people who never knew you either. It's uncomfortable for them, it's uncomfortable for us. It's uncomfortable for everyone.
      It's best both the husband and wife move out. Stay alone together. Take regular visits to both the families and maintain a good connection and always be there for their families. They can decide to stay closer to both the families so that they can be There for their elderly parents anytime.

    Additionally, I would say that a lot of such issues are being reported in cases where a man is raised by a possessive mother.
    This leads to the man growing up in a house where their every demand is met and the "women" do all the work and so down the line the same is expected from the wife.
    Moreover, the possessive mother of the son interferes in their marriage. Everytime there's a fight between the couple, the mother would make sure the son knows he's right even when he's wrong.
    The son is victimized and the wife is demonized. Even when he's wrong.

    Thank you Sir. Now,we have stopped talking about domestic violence and dowry as there nature has seen changes. But I feel that economic independence of women didn't pave way for complete emancipation for them. As men, we need to change our attitudes first (as roots lies with us only) and this has to be teached starting from home to school curriculum. Also, educate women who are the other wheel of patriarchy (considering it a cycle resting on two wheels) and to add to this,your idea of tapping into a community leaders to change male attitudes also seem good.

    To end all these, education is much important because if mens are educated enough then most probably they won't commit these type of activities and when women are educated then if violence happens against them then they they leave their partners and then can bear their cost for their livelihood by doing anykind of job because of education .most women suffering domestic violences are uneducated so they fear to leave their partners .
    Note: here education includes both formal and moral .

    • @ashieshsharmah1326
      @ashieshsharmah1326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @karthik n I Know that there will always evil in society it will coexist with goodness . But however by giving moral education the numbers of evil minds can be lessened . And about society it's the same no matter how much we put effort we can't change the mindset of whole society but it can be reduced to an extent . And I mentioned earlier even if men doesn't change but the women can be liberated from suffering by the help of acquired education. The very reason of married woman suicide is their weakness that if they try to get out of toxicity than they would either rushed by society or in hunger .

I am a logical person and i think women getting married in kalyug is risky so she should be financially independent first and then she should also be brave to leave such family who don't respect her but personally for me, I never want marriage. For example, when Sati was banned, people still were practicing it because they believed that it's a part of their scriptures. But we forget that all these scriptures are written by our ancestors only who were human too. So we have the power of changing our cultural traditions. But now there's no more Sati in India, because people have culturally accepted that it's not right to kill a person like this
    Fun fact: Raja Rammohan Roy's sister in law (Bhabhi) was also a victim of Sati, that's why his urge to ban this evil practice became more powerful
