I first heard this done by PTX and thought it was beautiful. Then Voctave came in with Mark who wrote it. What a difference. In January, Voctave (like octave with a V) came to Tallahassee, FL and FSU and I got to see them. This is stunning and the definitive version.
As the author, this is the way Mark intended it to be sung! Mark wrote the lyrics to this song in 1984 and asked several people to add the music. In 1991 he handed the lyrics to Buddy Greene (Harmonica player for the Gaither Vocal Band) to take a look at it. I believe they said he wrote the music in 30 minutes, called Mark and sang it to him. Mark said that was it! Michael English (also with the Gaither Vocal Band) recorded it first.
I recommended this on the Voiceplay song you reacted to recently. I’m so glad you loved it, Mark was amazing but Voctave doesn’t get enough recognition in general. They are unbelievable. Would love to see you check out more of them. Of course they have a lot of Christmas music, O Come All Ye Faithful is amazing but they also have a lot of Disney medleys if you are into that. Their Great Movie Medley is super fun!! ❤
David Phelps was also great with Voctave. He had sang this song also on a christmas album, also fantastic. Mark wrote this song end Buddy Green wrote the music. Voctave is the best mix-vocalgroup in the moderne light music of the world. And the Gaither Vocal Band is the best male-vocalgroup. I love Voctave en Mark Lowry
I came to your channel when you reviewed alot of David Phelps and I LOVE that you found this version of Mary Did you know along with Voctave. They have done collaborations with several gospel artists (Being Alive from the musical company with David Phelps, Beauty and the Beast featuring Sandy Patti, Someone Like You feat Jody McBrayer (of Avalon)). Tiffany Coburn (one of the blond sopranos in Voctave) also has several songs on the gospel music charts and at one time toured with Sandy Patti as a back up singer. Voctave has a wonderful and beautiful Christmas catalog including must watch ones including O Come All Ye Faithful, Where are you Christmas, O Holy Night and This is My wish/let there be peace. For other wonderful songs they have done check out their Prince of Egypt Medley (at this time audio only), You will be found featuring an over 900 person virtual choir and any of the Disney Medleys show of all their voices plus the ones I mentioned above with the featured guests are superb!
Some Voctave prounounced Voctive for you. Voc means the group has a 5 octave range. Most members sing or have sung at Epcot at Disney Land in Florida.. They are 11 members now and a tenor in the group does all the arrangements of their songs. Voctave is all pure voices with no layering and no autotune. What you hear is what they are. They sound the same live as they do in recordings. Tons of songs including many Christmas. Try them out you will be amazed. I especially like Oh Holy Night and All Is Well.
Mark wrote the lyrics, Buddy Greene wrote the music. Mark is sitting in this production because of his multiple sclerosis. The other groups have nice versions of this song, but this is the best, the one I prefer to listen to.
Hello! Thanks for your reactions, I do enjoy them and love your choices of who you cover. And I see your subs keep going up! Congrats. You've done Home Free a lot (my guys) and Chance the baritone sings some incredible songs as a trio with their great friends, The Fox + The Hound (a husband and wife from here in Oregon. They were Home Free's original video group that did many of their videos.) Anyway, I was just listening again to them do Sound of Silence and Wayfaring Stranger together. Incredible, incredible!! They are actually standing just inside a metal culvert in the rocks and water for effect and it gives the slight echo sound. You will love them and Chance's voice is SUPER SPECIAL! Take care.
IMHO, the BEST version of this!
Nobody sings this song like Mark, I love Mark with David and Guy as backup, but this is the best version.

Home free has a unique sound on this song, its my fave. But all the groupls are fab.
I like this one with Voctave, but my favorite is Mark singing with David Phelps & Guy Penrod th-cam.com/video/3fbgWa5pH3g/w-d-xo.html
It's pronounced like octave with a v.
I really like Mark. This version is beautiful. But I prefer Home Free's version.
