When he heard that Wemby went from shooting 23% from 3P in October to 36% in November to currently 36% in December, he suddenly backtracked. LOL. Even if Wemby’s current 3P% don’t hold up consistently throughout the season, I think the Spurs’ gamble of letting him develop his perimeter game is still totally worth the shot. Wemby having a jumper is less wear-and-tear to his knees in the long run. He’s still very skinny at this point so him camping out on the paint on both sides of the court for an 82-game season risks him to more injuries and they’re still just in year 2 of rebuild with him. Wemby is already doing a lot for this team. He’s already roaming all over the paint on the defensive side, so I can understand why the Spurs want him to be more of a perimeter player on the offensive end, even if it’s just to protect him from injuries. They’re also probably waiting for Wemby’s body to mature more and also for him to gain more weight and strength. We all know already what he can do on the paint anyway so why not develop some of the weaker aspects of his game? He’s still very young so there’s plenty of time to develop. If Wemby becomes more consistent with his 3P-shooting, he’s literally gonna be formidable because his shot is unguardable. He won’t develop his jumper nor his IQ if he stops shooting. Shooting at practice is not enough. He needs in-game situations to develop his shot and his IQ that’s probably why they’re letting him shoot all those 3s. Wemby having a jumper also opens a lot of opportunities for his teammates and it will always keep the defense honest. It’s still too early in his career to limit Wemby’s potential. Let’s be patient and let him develop his game. Tbh, the team is not a serious contender at this point so why not use this time to continuously develop? The most realistic I can hope for this season is a play-in team anyway.
He wants Sochan to be what Wemby is and Wemby to be what Sochan is. They fit a puzzle , Sochan should the screen setter for pick and roll actions to handle paint scoring . While Wemby gets hit s mid range and 3 pt shots . It’s clearly what he is comfortable with.
Wemby is being foolish and hurting the team with his insistence on taking an excessive number of shots beyond the arc. The coach and FO don't seem willing /scared to call him on this. Pop says players have to get over themselves and put the team ahead of everything else but Wemby is writing checks his body can't cash.

He’s so proud what he found 😂
