Kunda is a curious and brave little girl. The way she was looking at her daddy was so sweet. Kebi reminds me of my mom, always so nervous and over-protective. I love gorillas, they are my favorite animal. ❤❤❤
I don’t think Kebi is overprotective. She’s intelligently assessing the risk from other gorillas. Great mom. Kunde is just fine because of the security she can count on.
Don't think I've ever noticed any of their eyebrows as I did Kunda's today in the sunlight. She's an exquisite baby. Mellow Mokolo always good to see, too. Brava for Kebi's care for her baby. I realize folks complain re: helicopter mom, but she's doing her very best, eh? Thank you so much for these riveting looks at the troop, Larry. (Hope little Zaki is thriving, as well.) ❤
I noticed them also and thought that was the first I had seen on any baby gorilla. She is so cute and this separation lets mom have more assurance that she will be okay playing. Great videos!!!
I agree! Kebi is a great Mama! I think this video shows that she is perfectly willing to let Kunda explore, but only if there’s no threat to her safety. Kunda is very much on the ‘petite’ end of the gorilla size spectrum compared to Kayembe and baby Jamila, who are both quite robust. (I suspect that supplementary bottle feeding makes chonkier gorilla babies❣️) 😂❤ And those lovely long eyebrows are to die for❣️
Kunda seems to be a self-confident tiny gorilla. She reminds me of Kintaro with her long eyebrows, exploratory mindset and attraction to bouncy balls. Thank you for the lovely scene!
There was so much "edge of your seat" action going on in this video! I was biting my nails watching Kunda climb those stairs and found myself doing a "fist pump" when she made it back down safely. And don't get me started with her getting close enough to her dad to lay her head on his forearm...oh man! All around great video Larry!
Baby Kunda has the cutest long eyebrows. And what a treat watching the little one climb and explore her enclosure, all under the watchful eye of protective mom, Kebi. Kunda shows no fear of silverback Mokolo, even if Kebi is not ready for the silverback to touch her baby. Great video!
Excellent call by the keepers to separate the troop. Gives Kebi a little more confidence to allow Kunda more freedom of movement. The little sweetie didn’t miss her opportunity. Adorable video.
@kathybenson248 that’s hard to answer. I’ve only studied this troop. Also depends how you define interact. The males role is to protect the troop and keep the peace between troop mates. At age 2 years Kayembe would push Mokolo or twirl and run into/fall against Mokolo who just sat there . Again, how you define interact might be different than mine.-perhaps some viewers could respond to share what they have observed in other troops. I wouldn’t characterize Mokolo as being a playmate for Kayembe as of yet.
Kintaro from the Momotaro group in Japan was a little over 1 when he started interacting with Dad, but Momo was very gentle and didn’t start actually really playing with him for several months. He just let Kintaro come and linger around him and he would gently touch him, which was so sweet. Now Kinny goes head to head with Daddy at 5 years old. They totally know to be gentle with them.
This is the most freedom Kunda has had to climb and play in any of your videos! At times, you can feel Kebi's anxiety as Kunda climbs around. I really love the videos of Kunda, thanks Larry
Kunda is adorable. I would call what she is doing here as exploring her world, the smells and textures of it. I love it. Unlike human babies at that age, Kunda smells strange things but doesn’t put them in her mouth. Kebi is a great mom.
It is very good to see little Kunda exploring everything around her and Kebi has given her a little independence but that is because the mischievous Kayembe is not around.😂😂❤
Kunda is such a precious little one. It will be interesting to see the differences in Freddy and Kebis parenting when the little ones start to venture out. Mokolo was being very gentle and I wonder if the moms are more protective of the females. Thank you Larry, love watching the behavior.
Thanks Larry for great footage!! Thought we would never get to see Kunda being able to build her muscles. I did think it was unfortunate that Kebi almost panicked over Mokolo touching Kebi. But eventually he will be able to play with her. Separating the troop really helped enable Kebi to feel that it was safe to let Kunda explore. Thanks again Larry
🤩😍👏👏❣️ Thanks for a wonderful “Kunda Special”! It’s just awesome to see Kunda get the space and freedom to explore and play. She was having a fabulous time and Kebi seemed so much more relaxed. Separating the gorillas from time to time is obviously really good for them. 😊 Kunda is such a little sweetheart - not keen on getting her hands dirty, but very interested in her enormous Papa! The scene from 15:49 where she tried to follow Mokolo into the next room was just adorable.❤
Kunda loves that red ball! And what a climber! She did great on that wall and figured things out to get out of a “difficult” situation. A smart little gal! Good to see Kunda exploring. Thanks for the video, Larry. 🥰😃💕
Kunda is just so cute and gorgeous 🥰 She is so full of energy and likes to explore - climbing the ladder, playing with the ball, making a straw bed etc… And Mom Kebi is always there looking out for Kunda 😘 I wish I was there to play with Kunda and to give her lots of cuddles and 💋‘s. Thanks for sharing Larry x Love to Kunda, Kebi and to everyone ❤
Thanks Larry. Obviously Kunda has been watching and learning from the others because she knew exactly what to do on the ladder. The time has let Kebi learn as well; how much Kunda knows, how her balance is, how adventurous she is, etc.
I love that Kunda was able to really run around to explore & play. I don't think I've ever seen that since I started watching your videos. Very awesome video!!❤❤❤❤
As always appreciate a good laugh thanks we laugh and learn and benefit from the gorillas they make good parents and grandparents and stepparents and uncles and aunties they are very smart and intelligent animals always learning something new each day from them its good seeing them having fun and eating well bon appetit enjoy your meal much love and respect and appreciation job well done you should be proud really appreciate the updates please keep them coming appreciate you guys thanks !!! Kintaro, from Ueno Zoo in Japan, was exactly like Kunda, very small. As his freedom increased, so did his weight. Once Kunda can explore and forage on her own, she will increase in weight. She will be able to eat what is placed all over the enclosure. Right now, Kebi eats what she forages, and Kunda gets whatever falls near her, which is not a lot. ❤
I thoroughly enjoyed watching Kundra exploring the ball. It warms my heart seeing how protective Kebi is. Nothing gets passed her! She’s an excellent mom!
Great video! Mokolo is huge! Mom Kebi is so protective of baby Kunda! Would love to see a side x side of babies Kunda & Jameela! Kunda looks tiny for her age!

Great video Larry, thanks for sharing it with us. When I watched the prior video I wondered if Mokolo was playing with Kebi in part to show her he wouldn't hurt Kunda. I think it worked to an extent, she let Kunda get close to Mokolo, she just drew a line with him touching their baby girl. It was wonderful to see Kunda exploring and playing, she is definitely a climber.
Niedlich! Das Klettern macht ihr großen Spaß! 🤣🎉

Kunda is still so small for her age. She's a year next month! Kebi really needs to let her go. Talk about a helicopter mom??? Wow! Glad to see Kunda ventured out a bit later in the video..
She’s like Genki was with Kintaro, Genki had it very bad with older strong very jealous son. He would steal the baby and run around. Always fighting him off. Now the kids are best friends and the older, Gentaro has turned into a young silverback
That's nothing compared to my wife being a heli mom. My kids are 20 and 18 and treats them like 8 year olds still. I've been glad my boy is around me more so I can fix it as fast as I can and turning into a great man.

At 6:21, I thought, "Kunda needs to be careful if she tries to climb that "great big rock off to the left." Then I realized the "great big rock off to the left" was the silverback. :D
Bless her little heart, she’s an adventurer alright…. But she’s got some serious eye brows going on there 😂 maybe it’s like German shepherds having big feet that they grow into 🤣
Gosh I think Jameela is bigger than Kunda. Anyway maybe that play session and separation training is helping Kunda loosen up and let her go a little. I think Kebi is always worried about Kayembe. He’s a little spitfire and I’ve seen looting of baby gorillas by well- meaning siblings. Scary!
