Iman, you are right that it is hard to get vegetarian food outside India. But one can always customize the food. For example, whenever I go to a Mexican restaurant, I replace meat with beans. Italian food is full of vegetarian dishes and so is Chinese and Mediterranean food. But on daily basis, we can't eat these foods. On daily basis, Indian food is perfect.

I live close to this temple and my office just behind this. A very traditional place this part of Bangalore is. There is a famous Mahalakshmi and Hanuman temple just in front of ISKCON.

Spices in appropriate quantity is good, infact spices are required more in non veg food and not much in veg food. If you try making veg with non veg approach, you may never make a good veg food. So keep spices appropriate

Iman first of all I will clear your thoughts about the idols or murti. We Hindus, Jains and Buddhists keep murtis for worshipping not for decoration. I have seen many western households keeping Gautam buddha and Ganesha murtis for the sake of decoration but it is quite offending to us coz we worship them with our devotion. If you want to keep murtis in house for the purpose of decoration pls don't and if you want to keep you should give them attention and devotion coz they mean alot to us sanatanis.
Idol Worship -
208. You who condemn idol worship, without realizing its deep mystical significance through a heart that melts with love! How is it that you continuously worship as 'I' the idol which takes the form of the inert body that parades itself in a false and illusory way?
Muruganar: The implication is this: all relationships with and attitudes towards God are idolatrous until one attains realization. Hence, it is foolish to criticize the spiritual practices of others.
A Vaishnava devotee, who was a high official at Shimla, brought all the idols that he worshipped daily, and handed to Sri Ramana, probably desiring the sanctity of Sri Ramana's touch. Sri Ramana seemed much interested in examining them.
The devotee said, 'Bhagavan, people scoff at me, calling me a "superstitious idolater".'
Sri Ramana told him - Why don't you retort by calling them worse idolaters? For do they not wash, dress, embellish, feed and thus '"worship" their body so many times every day? Is not the body the biggest idol? Then who is not an idol worshipper?

Though Sri Ramana occasionally made disparaging remarks about traditional practices such as idol worship, he did not like his devotees to criticize such activities. If they did, he would not support them.
Once, for example, someone asked him, 'Is it not foolish to make idols and worship them when we know that God is formless?' He answered in a characteristic way by saying, 'Who is not doing idol worship? From the moment of waking in the morning, everyone is engaged continuously in idol worship. How? By taking the body, which is only a mental image, to be real and by treating it like a temple statue. You bathe it, comb its hair and offer food to it three times a day. Who has escaped from this idol worship?'
