Its actually why we banned the mamelukes for our friend when playing with him - he is a top 2 % starcraft 2 player... and we cant do anything against his mameluks - nothing can beat the combination of mobility and dmg those guys do - the thing that went best til today is building onagers - but they are so damn expensive that you still will lose the war

Mameluke and monk is key for saladin last mission, if you play defensive. Only need 30 mameluke + 4 monk as healer to clean all lion hearted, franks and templar attacker untill their army turn into massive villager looking for wood

True, with armour, hp, and speed upgrade, it would be better, but this is the example of bad unit choice. The best unit from Saracen to counter this is actually their excellent Heavy Cavalry Archer, or even Hand Cannoneer if massed enough.
If you have full upgraded mamluks, 70 or 80 mamluks can get this. I meant ' owned ' all TT knts. This is not ' much better ' This is ultra different than 200 counted mamluks can't get this.
Again, if you have full upgrade on Elite Mameluke, you still need 100 hit to kill a single FU Elite Teutonic Knight. And you need to micro and will be pushed back intensely. In a real game, this is costly, as you may need to pay attention else where, or cannot afford to be pushed back. Better to always mix in half Heavy Cavalry Archers, and now your combo not only immune to enemy Heavy Cavalry, and these tanky Teutonic Knights, but also won't die too fast if loads of Halbs happen to get close to you.
It's actually funny if you read history of Mongol invasions and read about the Europe campaign: how Mongol horse-mounted archers laid waste to several European armies composed of mainly those heavy, slow knights. And the Mongols did all that with only half of their force, with the other half being in Vietnam after the Sung dynasty.
I think that's because of two things. First, europeans were just not used to dealing with cavalry archers, especially those with tactics such as the mongols. And secondly... the mongols knew to stay away from swords when they were using bows. The AI just isn't great at keeping ranged units alive.

The knights were not that slow but weren't numerous. During the mongol invasions of Hungary a battle between Hungarians and Mongols viewed the victory of the latters but the mounted knights clad in iron, men and horse, were nearly impervious to arrows. In attempt to prevent a nigtmarish second invasion of Hungary the king insisted that his nobility should be more equipped like this and built many stone castles at the same time, and it worked. The Mongols were superior tactically to most of their foes while being outnumbered most of the time, against people as diverse as Chinese, Persians, Arabs, Slavs, Polish, Germans ... Sometimes numbers aren't a matter; Alexander the Great vanquished the mighty achemenid empire with far fewer men after all.
