When it's a AAA 50 million dollar game, they get alot of slack for having bugs, but when 5 people throw together a game, they immediately get shit right on their chests when it's not polished to perfection, voice acted, etc.
@@caseydia3957 I think it's also since people expect Sonic to be shit, but don't expect something like Elden Ring to be shit. Also Sonic Frontiers is one of those cases where while the majority of people don't think it's perfect, we're all just happy we finally get a good Sonic game after so many years. But yeah, for the team that made this game, this is really well made. I will defend Charlie in that the motion blur is a bit excessive. I don't get nausious playing the most eye-wrinkling games, but the amount of motion blur in this game makes my head hurt. If they gave you the option to turn it off, this definitely wouldn't be a concern of mine.
@@LittleNamMan I don't think sonic frontiers is good personally. Sorry. You make another good point though, if sonic frontiers is okay to you and thymesia's blur makes you sick then there's definitely a problem with thymesia
@@caseydia3957 It's fine if you don't think it's good. I understand if Sonic Frontiers isn't the greatest game like everyone is hyping it up to be, but the game is going in a very good direction, and I think this gameplay formla if improved upon for the next installments can make for some very good gameplay. If it's a motion blur problem with Sonic Frontiers being compared to Thymesia, then I personally had no issues with Sonic Frontiers, especially given how they even incorporate a setting in the menu that lets you fix the screen to be farther away in case people do get motion sick, as well as other options. I also feel the motion blur at its most base level of settings is not even remotely near the level of Thymesia. Thymesia has one of the worst cases of motion blur I've seen in a game in a while, and the fact you can't turn it off is disappointing. Not to say the game is bad, it's really fun from what I've played actually, but the motion blur doesn't keep me playing for long and that sucks because I want to play more.
@@LittleNamMan I think my biggest problem with frontiers is that it's an empty, short game with a few cool moments for a 60 dollar price tag. Maybe when I had a mom paying for games and I was getting them for Christmas that was alright but I pay rent now and that's 4 and a half hours of work for a game that "is going in a very good direction". There are thousands of more complete open world adventure games I could buy with that money. The reason I mentioned sonic frontiers specifically is because I find the idea that they know people will pay a shit ton of money whether it's good or bad really insulting to people like you, fans. They have all the money in the world to make the game the most well produced of the year but they waste it because it doesnt really matter.
What do you mean "zero acting just deadpan"? Charlie is one of the actors of all time! He's been in such iconic movies like the Hunger Games, Last of the Grads and Killer Bean Forever! He'd give the most awe inspiring acting with unique voices perfectly suited for each role in the entire multiverse!
"When will developers learn". Regarding voice acting, people seem to forget that 1) not only is voice acting incredibly expensive for indie developers, but 2) you then need to localise it into at least 6 languages to launch on consoles. That's an insanely high price tag for a tiny team.
This is genuinely a good "beginner" Souls like. If you have no experience with Souls games or tried one but found it too hard then this isn't a bad game to try out due to it being relatively forgiving
If you have tried souls games and struggle just take legit 10 minutes and don’t swing your weapon once. Just dodge and watch what the boss does. My 11 year old brother could beat souls games. It is legit just patience and not trying to brute force everything. You try to learn movesets and suddenly it’s not a hard game and you’ll win most fights first try after feeling out the move set. There’s like 5 archetypes of bosses and once you’ve learned them they are all the same.
I love how Thymesia allows you to choose between investing into a less powerful, but more forgiving deflection or a less forgiving, but more powerful one. Blocking sucks though, outside of very early game.
Thymesia's problems are balancing imo. The first boss (Odur) is the hardest. Then you get a break until the final boss who is extremely difficult but is a trial and error type of boss. The game is FANTASTIC tho and I'm glad I supported the devs since the day they announced it.
I haven't gotten around to playing for myself but from watching it as a Souls-like veteran I see those issues... I think a good chunk of it would be fixed if they just made some of the bosses more aggressive and MAYBE mixed around some of the stats to beef damage/durablity based on the boss itself... But no it looks like a fantastic Souls-like and I wholeheartedly plan on getting it as soon as I can.
I beat odur first try and had difficulty on the second last boss the most so idk what people are talking about lol although I agree the game is incredible
I feel like he isn't the hardest, the second Odur you unlock after side missions is the hardest imo , like way harder than any boss, and the girl I forgot the name is quite tough without op build. For me side missions showed me the better bosses and actually I really enjoyed the game apart from the final boss which is just so lame and boring
Also I'm glad you said that about the voice acting because every game that doesn't have voice acting I always catch myself reading the words out loud in random voices. Sometimes I make people sound like Carl from Aqua Teen.
I've always wanted to play a Souls-like game that also masquerades as a silent movie. Actually, that would be kinda cool. A Souls-like game but with black and white or sepia colours that looks like a silent German expressionist film with dialogue cards instead of dialogue would be fascinating.
I know a dark and gritty fantasy dystopia is kinda how souls like games just are, but it'd be nice to see more games in the same design philosophy but with a brighter aesthetic.
If you pay attention you can see that the first boss charlie died on(the knight), is a total copy of nightmare from soul calibur, the move the knight did after the scream is literally copy pasted from nightmare, same animation and all

I think people are extra-hard on souls-like games because they are borrowing their entire gameplay design pretty heavily off of a specific game series, a game series that also happened to do the gameplay design its doing as absolutely close to perfect as it possibly could. So, essentially, it's like a bunch of sculptors making statues all titled "David" of the character David from the story of David and Goliath, inspired by the work done by Michelangelo. fyi to anyone playing thymesia the first time, you miss out on an incredible boss fight if you click yes to 'is that the truth'. The real final boss is behind that choice.
I've been playing Demon's Souls for the first time as Temple Knight so this came at a perfect time. I'm standing in the Nexus after just leveling up at this very moment.
You got raided by bots holy shit
*fades to black* Charlie - ……ahh there is a phase 2, I’m dead “ gotta chuckle outta me
would have been nice if Charlie also played the optional bosses. There are 4
I love how people lie just because they don't have any proof to back it up. Like the guy saying he beat Odur first try and everyone else sucks. This was a genuinely hard game the first time around. It actually takes skill to play this game.
Or it’s just not a hard game😂
I love Steam soils-like games because all the bosses are ether damage sponges or can be beat with your eyes closed, there is no in between.
MC: Give me a wacky, silly boss guy.
Odur: You rang?
Souls like games are always easy except the souls games
Souls games are easy if you have patience
That bit at the start with your username was so funny, I'm glad you left that in, it was kinda wholesome lol
MoistCr1t1kal, this stream changed my life. My entire view of everything that exists in this world, in fact, even in the entire universe. I can never look at anything I know the same way again. This stream represents emotions that most humans could never understand. But I can. Thanks to this stream I was awakened to many things previously considered unimaginable. Thank you for this exquisite stream, I will never forget this experience!
If you make a Soulslike without stamina limitations, you're just making a grimdark Assassin's Creed combat simulator.
Sekiro had no stamina tho?
im not sure, but doesnt sekiro also have no stamina?
@@indigo7898 Instead of stamina, sekiro has posture.
@@nazarvaskiv5030 A stamina bar is completely different to the posture bar.
@@JustaLynxxYT well sekiros not even souls like but yeah idk what this dudes talking about
The amount of squares next to the boss' health is the amount of phases.
I Don’t Care
@Mohammed Resimi "I don't care" -🤓" -🤓
Nobody cares about you either
@DONT READ MY PROFILE PICTURE your iq is room temperature
Guys you may not know this but he really doesn't care

The hanged Queen is the demon prince
The real game of the year, been waiting for this one.
THESE BOTS BRUH
In souls games the combat feels like it has actual weight behind it but I wonder why so many souls-likes have such a floaty combat.
Thymesia is great! Gets an 8.5/10 from me, needs more balancing and NG+
Critikal: People seem unnecessarily hard on indie Souls-likes when they give other genres a pass.
Me: Totally true, I don't get it either-
Critikal: Like Cult of Lamb looks generic.
Me: I....................how do you follow that up with being rather objectively wrong?
I love the design of Varg he really remember me Nightmare from soulcalibur
Helps his attacks are straight out of Soulcalibur
have you ever considered turning motion blur off???? or changing camera?
3:54 wes johnson?
Disagree on your cult of the lamb opinion. It was a great game. Combat was samey but it also had the whole cult management side to it. Was super unique
7:33 perfectly timed
sometimes easy is good and the combat is very fluent
How stubborn you are and your own persistence to throw yourself at a wall is the only true difficulty in most (good) soulslike games.
It's just such a wildly different subgenre of games and gameplay rules at this point, it takes some time to figure stuff out but once you do it's *chefs kiss*
Title: Soul-like game are too easy
Also: Proceeds to die countless times
I love this game. I really hope we get a sequel that's more fleshed out with like 20 hours of gameplay and more build variety.
this game actually looks good and the combat and the fighting designs of the bosses are dope. wish they had cutscenes and voice acting too
