Nice project. Great fun cars to drive, easy to flick the tail out, and snap it back in. Rekon 200+ BHP would have it drifting. Liking the Arduino ECU, the open source scene is great.

I always liked the MX5, years ago I almost bought a 2002 MX5 before I bought my E85 Z4. The space inside the Z4 helped guide my decision as the MX5 was very tight from memory.

Yep, I'm 6ft and I can only just squeeze in. If I take my steel toes off I fit a bit better! Haha!

Looking forward to this mate but must say: where is the Cummins at the moment?

It's down in Kent at my parents' place (in the workshop). It is 'finished' now though and MOT'd, so it'll soon be making a re-appearance on the channel. Thanks for watching!

I sold it last year when I emigrated unfortunately. I'll be on the lookout for another one in the future as I still have all the bits for converting it.

Nice to see an exciting new project, and have always wanted to see an MX5 turbo conversion done.
I’m also thinking of adding a turbo to my ‘89 Alfa Romeo Spider - 2.0 twin cam engine. Would be looking for between 175-200bhp. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the video and pls keep ‘em coming.

Hi mate, thanks for the comment!
Regarding your Alfa, for engine management you will probably be better off with Megasquirt rather than Speeduino, as VVT is in its early stages of development on Speeduino I believe. If you search for 'Megasquirt Alfa Twin Spark' you should find lots of threads covering it. Turbo wise, something similar to what I've got for the MX5 will work fine for 175-200 bhp.
      Cheers!

I think you need to find a better MOT tester as that one was a bit too keen or looking to make work for them selves. Yes some things were a fail but super picky on most of it. If I had tester like that for the light vehicle's in the fleet I look after i'd be going elsewhere. The testers manual is downloadable.

    • @SamsMotors

He was a bit keen, but fair I think. I told him I will be tracking it in the future so he was probably trying to do me a favour by highlighting all the possible failure points - haha!

I bought it with about 9 months MOT on for £750 last year. I've since done a fair bit of work including a front end facelift, though the parts were dirt cheap. I'm probably less than £1k into it in total.

  • @evelynkinson5524

Less than a tonne? I don't think so, the mk2 and mk2.5 mx5's weight over a tonne. It's the price you pay for a convertible sports car
