I gotta think the biggest play would be not having your show smack dab in the middle of the workday. I spend my time and dollars on WhatNot after work when I can sit down and relax and would love to join you guys on there to scoop up some stuff.

Yeah but they’ll never do it unless they change their working hours . I agree with you tho. But they operate 9-5 like you and me so that’s why. Hope they change one day

As outlined in the video. Family is a big deal. The crew prioritizes family time; which means making some sacrifices for stuff like this.
Totally agree that night time shows are super awesome and probably the most beneficial from a business perspective, but will be a bit more rare just due to the values of the company.

Almost all the shows I can’t watch cause I’m at work. Except for Friday cause I work 4 10s. Would be nice if they had 4-5pm shows

About improvement: being part time in Canada my hustle is very seasonal because there's no yard sales in the snow, so during the slower period I try to pinpoint what were my main problems/challenges of the last season and try to improve on that next season! Right now a disc cleaner is starting to makes sense for me, business cards and a better way of showing my inventory outside of Ebay that's the 3 points I'm improving for spring.

For the wireless camera you could always do the wireless function in the GoPro. It should give you what you’re looking for. It’s a pretty easy setup as well.

Another option for WiFi video is installing NDI on a phone and using the NDI plugin within OBS.

Great stuff, guys! I tried setting up the same whatnot stream around a year or so ago but couldn't get around all the delays & such, and abandoned it, then abandoned whatnot altogether lol. So I really appreciated the breakdown of the process.

The only issue here is sustainability. I would bet my entire collection that within 1-5 years they aggressively increase their cut on auctions. With how much sales are taking place on the platform and it being a US based company, it's only a matter of time before they get bought out by Amazon or eBay as well.

eBay is a great value for the service they provide. It’s one of the easiest to use platforms and gives you a massive audience of shoppers.
Fees are a part of the industry, but if taken in context. eBay and WhatNot are both providing exceptional value for their cost.

Yeah Amazon isn’t making money with twitch, live sales for less fees than eBay isn’t making a profit. They are burning cash to get users and then will increase fees.

Thanks Alpal for keeping a level head answering my question on whatnot! I just scrolled into the whatnot this morning just asking if it was manuals and boxes only (not having seen or bookmarked the show), and he answered it with grace and patience instead of "it's in the title." Appreciate you guys and all you do for the retro community!

I'm not sure what to think about live selling. It certainly makes sense for the average TH-camr that is doing well, and is undoubtedly benefitting from the present American cultural norm of accumulating things with little regard to cost. I guess I haven't really participated purchasing anything because it seems like it scratches that "thrill" also encountered with live sports betting, which for me is a road I don't think I want to go down. As a buyer, I am asking myself if I really need something before I buy it more and more. Most things found on WhatNot can be found on eBay cheaper in my opinion. But, I like the discourse on the whole philosophy in the video.

    As a buyer, I don't do live selling/auctions.
It's a time investment. I enjoy watching your videos. I'm not interested in watching you sell things live/hanging out in a chat. I choose to use that time on other things.
I spend a hundred or more weekly on purchases for my collection. I would have to either stop doing what I do know l, and use that money in an auction that I don't even know what's being sold, or I would have to go over budget and spend more weekly to buy at a live auction.
Another aspect of why I don't do it is because of the time crunch. When I'm in a store, I either see something I want or I don't. There's no real rush. On ebay, I either find a buy it now, or auction, and I bid or buy. No rush. Live auctions, your rushed. Your pumping out 100s of auctions, and even though you see it live, you don't have time to carefully examine what your buying. Too faced paced.
I think live auctions are good for people who enjoy having online friends, and like to pretend to be friends with the youtuber they're buying from. I'm cool with using ebay and local stores only.

Whatnot…. I’m actually tired of this app. Every freaking TH-camr trying to push whatnot down their viewers throats.
I love your content and you are an inspiration, but I don’t like that people are paying the “TH-camr” fee by buying things on that platform vs buying it on eBay for less.
    🤷🏻‍♂️

The average sale price on items is below PriceCharting an a whole. There are certainly minty and high demand items that go for over that mark, but WhatNot is surely not the highest profit way for every item.
The primary benefit is volume and efficiency. It is much faster than listing, shipping and processing on other platforms.
What I love about WhatNot is you don’t have to buy anything. You can come and just enjoy the social aspects of the platform.

Sigh. Whatnot again. I really despise when channels peddle this cesspool. I get it they pay you a fee to market for them and get their $15 credit and all that but Whatnot is an absolutely horrible platform. It's full of scammers all over the place, has been for years, and they do nothing to try to make it a better place or help the people who buy there. Guess they'd rather throw some money at more youtubers than try to solve their problem.

With over $1 million in sales in what not, is it not worth the investment to look into hiring a person or small company who you can tell exactly what you want in your streaming set up, and they either set it all up or guide you into doing it?
Nothing against sky guy, but he's doing x y and z, and this. Chase isn't 100% happy, but atleast now he knows better what's working and what's not. If there is a company or person who does this for hire, they've likely encountered most situations you may run into or wants and needs you haven't encountered yet. Sure paying someone $10,000 grand and then buying $15,000 in hardware isn't appealing. But, everyone whose putting time into researching this is doing their real job instead. Then you have a legit crazy set up tailored to what not, and you can harass whoever you hire when issues arrive and make them deal with it, atleast within the first year.
Doing things yourself works. But at some point you should just spend the money and have it done for you. Especially when the set up could be a multi million dollar sales machine.
