  • Honda's recent announcement that it will be returning to F1 in 2026 as a works engine supplier to Aston Martin, has disappointed Red Bull. Both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez spoke out about why this new deal has annoyed them.

And we’d all be fine with that if it was the only time Honda have been wishy washy, but they’ve left and come back 4-5 times now, they come in, win a bit and then leave, at some point the fia need to tell them “look either commit or piss off” it’s not beneficial to the sport to have a manufacturer never being able to decide if f1 is worth it or not, it makes our sport look bad, if you sign the concord agreement that should be a binding contract both way’s, sign the concord untill 2026? Then that means you have to stay until 2026 instead of just being able to leave whenever you want, teams don’t do that in other sports and just leave randomly coz the feel like it and f1 should be no different

@@championxxlNL What are you talking about they keep coming back and winning over and over?
They didn't win anything in their first stint, they won everything they had upto their current team up with RBR in their 2nd ('83-'92) and they won jack in their 3rd stint (2000-2008)
They never left and came back in '83-'92.
They just supplied different teams for a decade.
Their status is inflated because they did have a good run in the 80's and early 90's but they're still only the 4th best manufacturer that doesn't hold a candle to FORD in 3rd which has almost double Honda's wins.
That said, they are making some gains with Red Bull now obviously.

In 93 McLaren had the option of the Lamborghini V12 or the Ford V8, they even tested mules for both engines. While Senna liked the Lambo, in the end McLaren decided to go with Ford as a customer which meant they always recieved the old spec engine compared to Benetton that had the works supply, so they had a deficit of 80-100 HP at some points in the early season to the leading Renault V10. The chassis was pretty good as demonstrated by Senna and Hakkinen but lacked power.

Then Honda kinda semi-stayed, so Red Bull put their logo back, but smaller, 'cause technically these were RBPT engines, not Honda.

Now Honda have to gamble with Aston Martin from zero, not knowing if they ever become champions.
And now Red Bull have to gamble with their own engined, not knowing if they ever can produce a half-decent engine from zero.

This is one of the reasons I really hope Cadillac-Andretti are allowed in. It would be very interesting watching a new works team get in since there's a fair bit of cchaos in that game right now with Ferrari very ironically being the LEAST unstable works team right now.
Especially With the expertise and technicale experience of GM. They have the facilities to turn out a banger of a drive train quickly, it wouldn't cost the massive outlay Red Bull had to do because GM has those facillities just lying around, all that would be needed is to devote an existing team to the design and block out time to use the people and facilities they already have to get it done.
GM makes tons of engines for Indy through its Chevrolet subsidiary, which isn't too different from F1 drives. There's a fair bit of technical permeability between Indy and F1 with personnel and expertise transferring back and forth pretty consistently, so this won't be a difficult transition, and GM absolutely has the money to get a new engine done.
I know that all reports are they'll start as a customer but with the musscle of GM behind them I doubt that lasts very long.

So much between these three behind the scenes. In 2016 Red Bull partnered with Aston Martin to make the Valkyrie hypercar starting their relationship. From 2018-2020 the Red Bull wore the Aston Martin logo on its rear wing as a title sponsor when Honda supplied their engines starting the relationship between Honda and Aston Martin. Papa Stroll buys Aston Martin late 2020 and officially in 2021. Aston Martin does not renew contract with Red Bull and converts Racing Point/Force India Formula One team to Aston Martin. They are not happy with Mercedes as an engine supplier. They claim their cars designs are very limited by the engines supplied and that Mercedes gets first choice of all new engines. Aside from other performance issues from upgrades the team claimed, and still claims, don’t improve their performance to getting parts that don’t hold the same durability as the Mercedes car. IMO, through back door dealing with papa Stroll Honda announces late 2020 leaving F1 due to “regulation issues”, claiming they wanted to move to being carbon neutral by 2050 despite F1 moving towards a net zero emissions deadline by 2030 announced in 2019, but will supply Red Bull engines until 2026. Early 2023 Honda announces a new partnership with Aston Martin that will allow both manufacturers to move into a new direction. They will now make their own car and overtake Red Bull and Mercedes as the number one team. Lance Stroll will become the late Mercedes era Valtteri Bottas, finishing top 5 almost every race even winning the occasional race here and there(if he can’t at least do that in the fastest ever F1 car he may finally get the boot). Fernando Alonso will win at least two more championships before retiring. I said what I said
