Small point, and I am sure just a slip of the tongue, but ADF does not point to VOR's. It points to NDB's. (You said it twice). It might help people if you explained what the abbreviations stood for, though I accept that we aviators talk in Three Letter Acronyms (TLA's). A good video though, I have been searching for one to refer my students to, and this fills the bill.
I'm an FAA ATP....4500plus hours (2509 PIC in 4 different jets...), however, EASA have banned us FAA guys from flying in the EU effectively, so I have to sit the 14 exams....your video's will help a lot and .... maybe you'd consider some private instruction/lessons?? Keep up the good work
thanks for the comment, if you want any vids in particular let me know! I do teach atpl privately also, however its a little hard at the moment as im being transfered and im not sure where so until that happens I wont have a home to teach from.
FROM a doubt TO no doubt! Thanks...... Just a bit confusing when you mentioned fly 035...but I guess you're referring to fly 305. Correct me if I'm wrong....
Capt. U replyed to my simple comments.... Thanks for this also.... Capt.i am also a student pilot...I am in India.... Just studying FOR MY R/T EXAM AND CPL PAPERS.... JUST NEED UR BLESSINGS.... Like I am more motivated with ur videos....
I was so confused at that part also! I kept re-watching the video trying to make sense of it, but I guess it was a slip of the tongue and he meant 305!
I was just revising radio nav concepts, and I must say this video did the briefing concisely and cleared up most of the confusion I had on the subject. Great job, Cap! I remember my instructor mentioning something about HSIs commanding correctly over back tracking . I am not sure.. I was wondering if that is of much relevance to actual airline flying?
Sorry to be a nuissance, but in the RMI, doesn't the larger arrow point to the NDB (using ADF) and the single line needle point to the Radial on the NAV?
Very informative video. Just a small question, in the scenario you gave you say lets say the instructor or ATC tells us to fly "035" but the example written on the board is actually "305". Overall very nice video, easy to understand.
Hi Ed,thanks for very well explained another video! Can you add your list, precision and non-precision approaches?but especially I don't understand what is the difference between WAAS GPS RNAV and GPS RNAV.
Sure, sorry i havent been uploading recently, I have a couple bussy months at work where im changing bases, so havent been able to do any, but i will do one you ask soon :) great suggestion
This is a great video, very well explained and much needed! All those acronyms for similar but different instruments, can be confusing. To clarify, is a CDI just a needle on a radio navigational aid like an HSI, or is it an instrument in its own right? Is a CDI the same as an OBI?

Good catch mate! quite right of course ADF points to NDBs!! thanks :)
@@PilotEd Also, when explaining the CDI you say 035 twice, but you mean 305. Other than that, very nice video!
@@spookymanbearpig cheers for pointing it out :)
@@spookymanbearpig i came to the comments for that exact reason
In 8 mins, I could understand what it took for the instructor 6 hours to explain, thanks a lot!!!

good luck mate :)
ADF points to an NDB and not a VOR, they operate on different frequency bands (VOR, MHz vs NDBs, kHz). Otherwise, good video.
6:12 you mean 305 instead of 035 right? cause that confused me a bit initially, anyway very good job clearing things up thanks
I was so confused at that part also! I kept re-watching the video trying to make sense of it, but I guess it was a slip of the tongue and he meant 305!
Great explanation. Thanks
Thanks you so much , your video is great intruction VOR/HSI I have found 👍
Clear as mud. This is the basic stuff, but nothing here about what screws up students is the vor needle that behaves like an adf
Nice video thx man. Appreciated
that illustration is very helpful... thank you!!! =)
apart from 035 degrees on 6:10 a very good video

CDI stands for course deviation indicator and is not an instrument, but and indicator in many instruments including HSI VOR etc..
