I think the commentary is incorrect in saying the Glanrhyd bridge failed under the weight of a train, one span was seen to have been washed away by a local farmer before the first train of the day who tried to warn the railway, but the train (which was meant to be inspecting the line) ran onto the bridge before any warning got through. (Manual signalling & no radios would have made that difficult in those days.)

John Churchill and the 3 other victims R I P. The bridge did not collapse under the weight of the train, it had already collapsed due the river/high torrents destroying a bridge support, unfortunately it was not spotted and the alarm couldn’t be raised before the train started to cross.

@@alrxanderwylie6512 My pleasure Alex, it was a terrible tragedy, there was a 14 year old schoolboy who drowned in the accident, and apparently he stayed in the first coach to help people out. Unfortunately the force of the river snapped the coupling and the first coach submerged into the swollen river and the 4 poor souls drowned. Absolutely appalling and very sad.
