Started this game as a complete beginner, was completely lost but your videos helped me so much. Let me say three years after this video: Thank you! Amazing work!
This is the video I needed. I haven't played a THPS game in a long time. I remember basics and movement but I was struggling to hit big combos. Thank you so much man and you definitely earned a sub from me.
Another thing to keep in mind with grinds is they will always restore your lost momentum when you string them together as long as the rail doesn't go uphill. So if you're losing speed during a manual try to get towards a ledge or rail and hop on, then do a few grinds on it. After about 2 or 3 grinds, you'll have all of your speed back
I used to play ps1 on ps1, I was really good. Now not playing in like 18yrs I’m learning again. Starting to get high scores in the mils again. This helps a lot. Thanks bro.
I appreciate these videos. This isn't my first time playing THPS1+2 but I never owned the game and learned the system. You've really helped me conceptualize it. I plan on practicing the stuff I've learned from watching your videos. Thanks for taking the time out to upload this. My main issue in this game has been landing the tricks but that's because I always go for more rotations than I need.
As a complete newbie to the whole gaming concept I really appreciate the information you provide. I have a question about combos and such I'm sure to find it in your videos. I'm an old skater from way, way back in the day. So I have always wanted to play a skate game but had no idea about anything, controls, moving my character,...Nothing. But now thanks to you and all of the others out there willing to take the time for me and other's to learn from I think that one day I won't suck. I love playing and learning though.
To anyone wondering : "How does he keep the momentum while doing manuals or any other tricks ?" I think i know why and i tried it myself and the secret is simply holding X or (A). The crouch stance gives you more speed, so by pressing it even before manuals you keep the momentum. (Correct me if i'm wrong but i think this is simply logic since no tricks are tied to the X / A button). Hope i could help because i was asking this question myself while looking at the video and remembered in the second video he said "press X almost all the time to be ready for the next thing".
You can also do a grab trick into a grind. Simply do the grab trick and while you are in the air press R2 and when falling press triangle to catch the rail.
These tutorials are a huge help! Ive actually played the game for years and I'm decent at it. But I was missing a couple of things and the new controls threw me off a little. Im back in the groove thanks to these videos
Do you recommend practicing with the analog stick or the d-pad? It’s hard for me to pull off some moves with precision with the analog, but I like the way the analog controls when just skating around.
Thanks for making this video and for the thorough explanation, Josh. I'm pretty new to the series as I only played a bit of the first one on the original Playstation. At least now I have an idea how to do the combos and can get back to practicing. Thanks again. :)
@@JSkeleton Absolutely! It's really fun and the closest I'll get to actual skateboarding in this live. :D I've got a long way to go until I can get combos like you did, though.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH for these videos..💖💖💖 I am new to the series and could NOT for the life of me figure out the x factor to why all my combos kept dropping off..These first 3 videos explained A TON🙂💖💖💖💖👍
Ok this and some practice is going to make me much better thank you. I struggle going from manuals in to half pipes usually because I haven’t built the speed up I think. Im still early in my refreshers course tho 😂
I play Tony hawk's pro skater on my Xbox one and I'm not super good at it so that's why I watch your videos and and I like them and I am subscribed to them because it helps me a lot
To be a good teacher you need to fully understand the subject. Excellent tutorial sir, I love this game but I'm awful at it. This will help me big time, now I need to go practice. I want to be good at tony hawk
That was a great video the only thing I have trouble is revert to manual I don't know why I can only revert to a manual like 3 times in row with backflips and any trick because i would lose speed or revert to manual would be unresponsive ending my combo by x7 but in Tony Hawk Project 8 I could do tons of backflip and tricks Landing a revert to manuel like 20x combos times in a row but with this game its too unresponsive
I love this game but it’s so frustrating, the analog stick doesn’t control nicely so I end up doing a way over the top trick for the little air I get but the d-pad isn’t good enough for control. People getting 400,000 on 1 combo and I can’t get more than 10,000
thanks a lot man, I used to think I am good in thps games when I played the first three games, now playing thps 1+2 multiplayer I see that I was wrong :D
I noticed you use the analog sticks instead of the directional buttons. I assumed that everyone used the directional buttons like myself but now I wonder how many others use the analog and if it would be worth retraining my brain to learn it. Has anyone else tried both and found one superior to the other? I used to play the original thps games a long time ago but was never really that good but I feel like getting back into them and want to find a way to get good at them.
Im sitting here, having played every game in the series, except Ride and Shred, and Im like damn, this wouldve been a nice tutorial to have back in the older games 😂 Shoutnout to everyone who learned how to bust Millions of points in combos over hundreds of hours
This is really helpful thanks, I’ve also been playing since original ps1 game. Quick question do you know if there is an option to turn off the odd effect when you fall over and get up (other than just don’t fall over lol) I preferred my skater to just get back up. I wonder why they put that in
I dont understand how to do the special moves with the d pad. I check the move list and get my special bar full and I push the move buttons and nothing happens. I dont get it?
Thanks for the tutorial. It really helped me take a step towards higher scores! When trying the different combos I always find myself in the situation to "run out of speed" especially when doing manuals. I know they may not be done for too long, but general question: how do i manage my speed accordingly? Any advice?
Awesome vids and thank you! Subscribed. I find it interesting how amazing you are at this game but you use the analog stick and not the d-pad which all other guides say to use instead of the analog stick. I've been trying to force myself to use dpad, but my thumb naturally moves for the stick so I might just use the stick which I think I like better.
Thanks so much! And yeah, I used the D-Pad for these games back in the day BUT, with starting with Tony Hawk Underground, I started using the stick on GameCube, so that became more natural for me haha
@@JSkeleton You've sold me on using the stick which I like better as well. I haven't played a TH game in about 15 years so I'm like a complete rookie again, but your vids are helping tremendously! Thanks again man!
My brother can go from a grab trick into a grind on a halfpipe, does anyone know how to do that? He just flat out changes his momentum from vertical to horizontal.

So, go up the half pipe, then ollie off and when you're in the air, then press right, then down then press circle, or do you hold the circle and press right and down with the circle pressed all the time?

There's definitely timing involved. You just gotta Ollie directly AT the wall, then press the Ollie button again as you're hitting it. Once you learn it, it'll be super easy :)
