What makes him the baddest in your opinion? I'm not arguing he's not, I'm genuinely curious. I'm a big fan of Dimebag, but he doesn't make my top 5. I'm always curious of what others are hearing that I'm not noticing or connecting with when they goat someone.
Dimebag Derrell (Guitar) and Vinnie Paul (Drums) are brothers, and sadly both passed away. Both were legendary musicians, and Dimebag especially was gifted at guitar from a very young age. Dimebag was playing guitar for another band of his called Damage Plan when a deranged fan went up on stage and shot him in the face several times. A US Marine not taking prescribed medication, if i remember correctly. He also attempted to shoot Vinnie, but thankfully missed and was tacked to the ground. There is footage of this on TH-cam, I believe. That was back in 2004, he was only 38 and sadly not the only casualty. In 2018, Vinnie Paul would die from Coronary artery disease. RIP to two legends, they will be missed.

Wasn't even a huge Pantera listener any more when I happened but as a guitarist had huge respect for one of the greatest riffers and solo crafters of all time. Man I love how you reacted to the music pantera has some really unique features like the singer (Phil anselmo) his voice can go from really to a really low pitch to a very high pitch and the guitarist (Darrell lance Abbott) he does some really cool techniques like pinch harmonics and he never really focused on guitar theory he just played and the drummer (vinnie Paul) is a great drummer for how fast some of there songs are personally I could never do what he did but I recommend listening to the albums far beyond driven or vulgar display of power love the content man

While my friends opened for damageplan, dime and i were in the crowd handing out black tooths. My friendship with them was lost on Dec 8th. Kept in touch with vinnie until the "band of brothers" album came out.

Phil's vocals in this album were perfections. He had a higher register in earlier albums before this one but didn't have the aggression. He had MAJOR aggression after this album but didn't really sing or hit them notes high notes after this. This album was a perfect mix of everything Pantera can do. That being said. Vulgar display of power is still their most incredible work of art. I'm so excited for you to hear it and see your reaction. Super aggressive

Dime was great, and i don't mean this disrespectfully, but quite a few guitarists can play like dime, and some are superior in the skill bracket. Ppl have to stop making ppl into God's when they pass. Dime was a massive influence, an incredible guitarist, and by most accounts, a great guy. He may have been the best at the style he played at the time, or at least close, and probably in the top 5 to 10 for people who've influenced the most ppl to grab a guitar, but there's better in terms of all around skill, and just the same, even with known guitarists skill, the best is probably sitting in his room somewhere, unheard of.

I could sit here and list a bunch of guitarists that are amazing and some would argue that they’re better than Dime. You can go way back. One of the many wonderful things about Dimebag, yeah he can shred, but his playing is full of so much feeling! I don't know how to explain it, but this band just has a playfulness to it. You can tell they take their music very serious, but they don't take themselves too seriously. Nobody's fuckin better then the Cowboys From Hell 🤘🤘

Hell yeah. I was lucky enough to meet Dimebag and Vinny Paul back in the day at a meet n greet when they were in the band Damage Plan. Dudes were cool as fuck. Sadly, Dimebag was murdered live on stage about six months later. RIP Dimebag & Vinny Paul, two badasses gone way too soon.

One of the many wonderful things about Dimebag, yeah he can shred, but his playing is full of so much feeling! I don't know how to explain it, but this band just has a playfulness to it. You can tell they take their music very serious, but they don't take themselves too seriously. Nobody's fuckin better then the Cowboys From Hell 🤘🤘
