We were just kids. I was 18 years old. We should have been treated better when we came back. We were drafted. It wasn’t a choice. But we were treated like dirt. That treatment has stayed with me my entire life. Till today most people don’t even know that I was there because I have difficulty talking about it. No 18 year old should see that much death and destruction.
Served wirh C co. 2nd Battalion 327th Infantry Regiment from 1968 to 1970. I came home. Many did not. Our brothers will only be history in a few more years
I served 18 months in Vietnam. On Flag Day 1968, I was one of five out of ten who survived a sixteen-hour battle. The National Liberation Front [Viet Cong] had decided they would make an example of the Vietnamese villagers who had decided to cooperate with the Americans, We kept our word and kept them safe. We found 50 dead Cong at the close of the battler. This was a transformational experience.
I just wanted to give each and every one of you brave men and women respect..I admire and respect you and thankyou for your service, all the emotions that you must all still be living with,I could never know nor understand,I just wanted to give you that respect that should have been given long aga, much love and respect from 🇦🇺 Australia!.
Duty is nothing you can define. It is a feeling. I could have hidden in college or ran away to Canada. I just could not do it. I enlisted knowing i would be there. Did the best I could.
Turning 59 in 5 days. Father fought at Con Thien, his brother, my uncle, a Corpsman at Hue. I was 10 years old when Saigon fell. 17 years later was fighting in the Yugoslav Wars. Thought I lucked out when I was pulled out and told, "No. Not Desert Shield. UNPROFOR Yugoslavia.
Parachute Infantry '76-'84 glad my parents waited 7 yrs to have their 1st kid. The first 15 years of my adulthood I was a 'baby killer'. Now "Thank you for your service". ?????!
I agree with part of what these men say. Still, I knew clear back in 1968 that this war was unwinnable, but no politicians would stand up and say we should get out. I got drafted into the Marines in December 1969 and even though I was a fervent protestor, I went in. The war was fought primarily by the lower middle-class, lower-class, and the boys from the rural small towns and farms. If we have another war where there is a draft, I want the sons of the rich, well-connected, and the politicians to go first. First empty out the halls of Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and the other ivy league colleges. USMC Dec 1969-Sep 1971
I was very young I remember my uncle was drafted in 1968 he was my grandfather's only son. He was actually sent to germany. And he was stationed in what they called Snoopy Co..
To all the veterans and their families, thank you for your service and sacrifice. Put your faith in and hold on to GOD'S SON JESUS CHRIST now. Loluv. Be Blessed
There were fellow americans ther in uniform of many religions and some with no religion. they represented our founding principles of freedom of religion or none at all. The misconception is America was founded to be a Christian nation, it was not. One of Gen. Washington's body guards was Jewish, some had no belief, the beauty of it all is we are free to believe or not believe as we see fit. We still hold that truth to be self evident and part of the glue that makes us American. Every survivor is thankful, mourns those that bought him another day to live. Every departed should never be forgotten but alas we all know that 2 or 3 generations from now those who fought will surely be forgotten. I served for 32 years, Vietnam was my first overseas posting, the worst best days of my life. I'm not going to explain that. I'm not sure God took sides in that war, the enemy too had a religion and a deity and they also felt that deity blessed them as well. Thank you for your kind words, they mean a lot.
My heart breaks for the families of troops that didn't make it home. I thank everyone who made it back. Thank you for your sacrifices. Unfortunately the Democrats used selective photos and videos to turn Americans against troops and the war.

Such a shame so many died or injured in a pointless war.
