I was just about to say. I am studying theater in school and this is surprisingly a great method of easing tension when performers do monologues. I think this wouldn’t have worked if it wasn’t Lenny. When doing a monologue, and your best friend is in front of you trying to make you laugh the tightness in your whole body just ceases. If it was a stranger, it just be outright rude. I think this is not only relatable but funny because it’s reminiscent of the best friend that will always have your back even when they are messing with you.
I grew up hearing of Lenny Bruce and am pretty familiar with the tragedy of his life, as well as how he REALLY looked...even still, I'm not mad at TMMM for giving us such a sanitized, romanticized version of Bruce on the show with someone as handsome as Luke Kirby...the camera LOVES that face, indeed.

I think this scene shows hints of all of them, when he's telling her his story she has that proud but patient mom look, when he starts throwing things at her that's a brother sister "going to kill you later, who me"? silent conversation, when she tells him to go away because he'll make her nervous and he's got that funny smirk, I can't tell if that's friends or boyfriend/girlfriend.
Brotherly/sisterly crap shouldn’t be involved in a dynamic between two love interests. Best friends/friends in general do the same thing you’re describing in the “sibling” part
I love this so much! I also find it quite interesting that she was never nervous for him to see her set before, even begged to know what he thought of it; but the first time they see each other since Miami he would be a distraction and make her nervous... 🥰
@@krisynthiagomez5883 Yeah, that's absolutely a possibility but given how important Lenny's role has been this season part of me is hoping they are just going to leave things on a happier note, even slightly open-ended. On the other hand there is every chance they did this to make the pain even more excruciating if they do end up dealing with his loss. I just know Luke Kirby would absolutely knock it out of the park, just not sure I'm emotionally prepared to witness it.
LENNY!!! I love LUKE KIRBY! He is the best part of this show. But NO he and Midge should not hook up! That would be dumb. But we SHOULD see his dark side and his demons should be written in...... And Joel and Midge belong together. He LOVES her!

Everything he is doing right now is to make himself a better person, for her. Even if he is unaware of it. And he is FIERCELY protective of her. It is adorable how he acts when he thinks someone might hurt her. I love it! And he wont act that way over Mei. She is tough as nails anyway and does not really need him. Which is why they will end up breaking up. Not to mention, she is not comfortable with him being Jewish and her being Chinese. It is the early 60's after all. Ben was awesome... Yes... Midge blew it there. But Lenny... NO WAY. People need to get over that. DUMB IDEA!
