- A trip to visit Googie and Pops in sunny spring Cumbria - Pops feeling much brighter so Googie and I take a spin around her amazing three quarter acre garden which she has created herself from an empty field over thirty years. She works in her garden every single day with help from her friend Carol on Mondays. And this is what she's created.
With room always for the hedgehogs, wildflowers, orchids and more, she's a ruthless pruner as you'll see, especially with trees taller than they should have been in her lifetime (she says!). There's a vegetable garden, there are glorious flowering rhododendrons, hellebores, masses of spring blossom. I think the pink acer is the variety Brilliantissimum and the pink leafed shrub towards the end is a pieris, of course. Mum and I both have lots of holes in our heads in this clip so if you can help us with any of the plants we can't remember the names of we'd be grateful x

lol - she'd be brilliant x
Wonderful idea🌞
Your Mum is the most beautiful treasure of the garden. She is both a blessing and encouragement. Thank you for sharing her with us.
You are so welcome x
Looks like Erythronium aka Trout Lily aka Dog’s Tooth Violet. North American native. Glad your Dad is better. The quilt & garden are wonderful. Hello, Googie!!! 😁
thank you xxx
“National collection of string” 😂😂 I can’t get enough of you two! Best duo ever

you're so welcome x
Mummy needs a mic, - gee Georgie aren’t we still blessed to have our mums that are still fit and with it in mind . Googie has a great sense of humour! Love her hedgehog 🦔 banter, and the hedgehog houses. Loved it thank you!
she does need a mic - I need to be more organised! x
@@theflowerfarmer om gosh don’t we all but hum my life sure doesn’t quite accommodate to that yet,I love my life and friends and garden, sewing, cooking, and You
Keep going Georgie and co ( Googie) (mummy daddy Kate kids hubs and us love your work girl x)
I'm 79. And instead of the paint stripper, I use a plastering tool, or is it a cementers tool, for cleaning my steps and paving. It's my favourite tool. It's has a wooden comfortable handle. And you can dig a bit with it when you need to. It costs a little bit more, except I think mine came from my father's tools, or a junk sale. Tell your Mum. It's brilliant.
brilliant x
The quilt is STUNNING Googie…you put the butterflies center stage…which is PERFECTION 🤩. Thank you Canada person! Love how Googie takes such good care of Mr Bumble❣️💗💕
the quilt is lovely isn't it - xxx
My 94 year old mom has just entered Hospice care so for me; a visit with Googie, her garden and hedgehogs are so great for the soul!

Georgie, you are a gem,"this pink person" and so is your mum!!
thank you x
Thank you for sharing your lovely mum with us. Mine sadly died many many years ago when I was in my twenties. I am now in my mid seventies so a long time , but I still feel her gardening right alongside. I learnt about and received my love of gardens from her. She was known affectionately to one and all as Goggie!
how lovely xxx
How wonderful, I feel the same about my mum who died when I was in my thirties, she keeps an eye on me.
What a treasure your mum is🥰 Greetings from southwest France
😊 thank you x
I wonder if you have any idea how therapeutic your garden walks and talks are. Thank you for sharing your love of all things nature!💖
So nice of you x
Love a Georgie and Googie video, so inspiring and uplifting.

I could hear the bees and see them with their pollen sacks! A delightful garden tour. Thank you.
You’re welcome x
Lovely to see your wonderful mum again. I laughed when your mum corrected you. As they say mother knows best! 😂
she sure does! x
She is such a remarkable lady, really enjoy your visits to her garden. 👏👏👏💐💐
you're welcome x
What a beautiful property. I hope I can keep gardening as long as your Mom. Fabulous quilt. Very kind of your mom and Ms. Canada!
thank you
Hello from Georgia in the US. Always a special treat to see Googie; she is so lovely. Thank you, take care.
hello Georgia x
It is erythronium, aka trout lily. We named our vineyard after it, trout Lily ranch. It blooms around Easter and is happy under dappled light of the oak trees.
yes! x
What a treat ! A joy every time 💙 Always makes my heart happy !!!
you're so welcome x
Always a joy to visit Googie’s garden….marvellous to see you both looking so well. X
Thanks so much 😊 x
Much love from Vienna, Austria ❤❤❤
hello Vienna x
When we bought this house over thirty years ago we found a biscuit tin full of string, it was labelled, ‘bits of string too short to be of use’
That's hilarious!
Brilliant x
❤❤ Thanks so much for sharing this. It has made me laugh so much.I am in my 70s now and this brings back clear memories of my parent's generation who rarely threw things away as , " You never know when it might come in handy" So much better than today's throw away society.
Yes, I’m a boomer too and had much the same experience. This old house was a time warp when we bought it, lots of post war hardboard employed to shutter away Victorian fireplaces & features to save dusting all the twiddly bits, but endearing things too like glass finger plates on the doors where the children of the house in the 1920s had painted flowers on the reverse. The old lady who sold it to us was the last of those children and had lived a pretty Spartan existence. We bonded over her amazing garden, which I promised to take care of, and I have. x
I love Googie❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
me too x
Love every moment with you Googie and Georgie. Grazie mille from Abruzzo, Italy.
hello Abruzzo! x
How talented is your mum. That quilt is amazing 🙂
Thank you! 😊 x
Erythronium I think. You are an inspiration, Google.
you're right - thank you x
The French girl's knickers as your mom called the bush---was that an Azalea? Not only does your mom have tremendous energy, but what a memory!! What a hardy generation she is part of! Wonderful video.
thankyou - the French girl's knickers are a rhododendron so close to an azalea x
Thank you Georgie for the tour at Googie's. It is always refreshing to watch Googie and her beautiful garden. I like her youthful spirit. She is also very strong. I like Googie's new favorite tool. I think she has shown this tool to us before 😂. It will always remain new. You are blessed to have your parents. God bless Googie for the work she does with quilting. The hedge-hogs enjoy VIP treatment at Googie's.
thank you xxx
We are sending Googie so much love, and are thinking of your beloved Dad whilst he is poorly and wishing him well. Googie you are such a huge inspiration to so many people including myself and I can see where Georgie gets her incredible creativity, love of colour, and determination from. For the mysterious plant my money is on a pink fairy slipper orchid, other names are Calypso, or Venus’s slipper. The conifer tree with its brown tips could be Dothistroma needle blight. It is found in the UK and effects black pine, Scott’s Pine and Bishops Pine. Thank you Mrs Kind from Canada, if you read this, what a generous lady you are, the quilt Googie made looks stunning. ❤
thank you so much x
Beautiful stone walls in your lovely mother’s garden
yes x
Gosh, so good to see you and your garden Googie! Thank you for the tour❣️
thank you for visiting x
The quilt is fantastical! You have certainly left a legacy of joy
she certainly has x
Googie is a REAL national treasure .There is a generation of strong, experienced, wise women out there and we should treasure them ❤😊. I've been a Googie fan since she showed us how to compact the green waste in the local authority bin. Googie you are my role model!
Great tour, informative and entertaining.
Love the hedgehog house, would build one but unfortunately my dog has an unhealthy interest in round, spikey, extra large tennis balls.😮
glad you enjoyed it x
Always a joy seeing Googie and her fabulous garden.
you're welcome x
A Wonderful Lady in a Magical Garden 🧡
thank you x
It was a pleasure to see Googie again! Would you please tell her that she inspired me to take up quilting? I am enjoying it very so much. I can hardly wait to be good enough to donate to the Linus project. Thank you very much!
brilliant - I'll tell her and I'm glad you're enjoying it x
I love googies garden, I call it the Beatrix potter garden. 🙂
it is very like that x

hello Zimbabwe! x
My favorite! A Georgie and Googie video! Thank you for sharing your beautiful quilt and gardens. And I always love a good hack; using a paint scraper in the garden 👍🏻. Enjoy the spring 🌸🌼🪻🌷💐
You are so welcome! x
The yellow flowers in her garden are erythroniums. They are common in the woods of the Pacific Northwest where I live in Oregon.
they are xxx
💚 loved this tour absolutely beautiful thank you. Love your Mum, I remember when she made the hedgehog home 🦔 best wishes to your Dad and yourself ❤️🐾
Thank you so much! x
G&G are joyous!❤ You both brighten my day.❤

glad you enjoyed it x
Your Mum’s comparisons are hilarious
they are xxx
They are dog’s tooth violets, erythroniums. I think the yellow ones are Pagoda. Lovely , thank you.
thank you - you're right x
@@theflowerfarmer 😊
My fenceline has the Akebia (Chocolate Vine) all along the top. So beautiful!
I need one here at Common Farm X
They are erythroniums. Always wonderful to see Googie and her glorious garden! I hope your Dad is ok x
thank you and yes, Dad brighter too so all good x
It's the immense rainfall that you've had.....its like overwatering my indoor plants, the tips of the leaves go brown.
Unfortunately, the changes in our weather are going to affect our gardens and how we garden.
Very sad to see such a beautiful tree, ail.
Jo😊 But other exciting happenings will balance out the bad.
Googie will be pleased to know I look after the hedgehogs around my garden....they're great for eating the slugs and snails.
Lovely treat to see your garden Googie.
Pleasure x
I’d put the growth dying on the tips of the fir tree down to wet weather and possibly nutrients being washed away in the soil due to the excess water.
I think you're right - we'll see how it does through the summer x
The small yellow plant is an epimedium, which likes shade.
Erythronium I think x
I think the yellow plant is an Erythronium and the shrub/tree with pretty white flowers looks to be an Exochorda probably Macrantha the bride - love your mother’s garden
yes - you are right on both counts x
Loved your garden Googie 💚
thank you x
Always very funny when the two of you are together. Love the banter and the garden. Hope all is well with your dad now.
thank you - and Dad much brighter too so all good x
Hello Googie from Texas! 🤠
Beautiful quilts. Love the update to your garden. Thank you Georgie. We do love the updates and tours.
hello Texas! x
Delightful Mum and garden. A joy to watch. I think erythronium too. I have it in my woodland garden.
Yes! X
What a joy! I learned recently that the beat thing you can do for bees is actually plant a tree. Tulip trees are number 1, then willows and maple but can't remember the order there. I would totally swoon if i had a hedgehog family living in my garden 😍
yes! x
This visit to your mothers garden reminds me of when I would go to my mothers garden and just ohh and ahhh!
yes it's very much an ooh and ah garden x
What an amazing, fabulous mother & garden. Is that a Bedlington terrier - Purdy? Yes, wonderful analogies 'like an old woman's chin' and 'like elephants bottoms' - brilliant. Thank you for sharing Googie with us, she's a total joy!
Yes a fifteen year old bedlington as frisky as a puppy x
There she is !!! Your Mum Google. Thanks for sharing her with us.
you're welcome x
I absolutely love Googie and would love to see more of her
I can't film every time I go - sometimes we have doctor's appointments or my Dad needs a bit of time - but I do when I can x
What a fabulous garden and an even more fabulous mother! Lucky you ❤
thankyou x
I am in love with Spring.
me too x
I have grown phacelia this year after seeing your spring tour last year. Great to see the two of you having a lovely wander and beautiful quilts as always. Such a delightful gift from your Canadian friend ❤
thank you x
Love seeing Googie and her lovely garden!
thank you x
So good to see your mum again!
thank you x
Georgie! I love Googie and her garden! I learned to quilt and garden from my grandmother and Googie reminds me of her. Thank you for sharing her with us! Regarding bees - film them in slow motion and you will find it so entertaining. I watch my little bee films back quite often!!🤣🐝
good idea re the bee filming x
Lovely visit, always a pleasure, thank you 😊 so happy to see that I'm not the only one to use a paint scraper on the paving 😅.
such a brilliant hack! x
Your mom's wavy fenced in garden plots are delightful! What a great idea to make them look original and magical! At 20:57 of the video what is the plant with the long striped leaves that are sort of triangular?
ooh I'll have to have a look x
Wonderful video, thanks both. Think the little flowers are erythroniums.
They are xxx
Just the loveliest vlog Georgie, always very happy to see your marvellous Mum! That quilt is stunning as is her beautiful garden. Can't wait for your next visit. xx

I so enjoyed this garden tour. It warmed my heart ❤️
thank you x
Love your gardens!! ❤
Hi from South Alabama.
The unknown plant could be a Fawnlilly.
yes - an erythronium x
I’m in North Yorkshire and my garden is nowhere near as ahead as this!
Nothing like a little Gulf Stream warmth on the west coast x
I love your mother!! What a treat
you're welcome x
Thankyou...enjoyable...Michelle from Horse Creek Queensland Australia 🌻🌻🌻🙋♀️🥰
You’re welcome 😊 x
Beautiful day, thank you!
Thank you too! x
The small white and pink flowers look like Zephyranthes also know as rain lilies…always a pleasure to see mom and her garden…God bless you both for sharing your time and talent and beautiful gardens with us
thank you so much x
Many years ago I was out in my garden very late at night on slug patrol with a torch. I heard a quite loud snorting, snuffling, grunting noise coming from under a bush. On further investigation I discovered hedgehogs mating and apologised profusely for disturbing them. They sounded very much like pigs , so am I correct in assuming that is why they are called hedge HOGS.
I think you're right about the name x
The plant is erithronium dens canis - dogs tooth violet. Such a pretty spring flower.
Thankyou xxx
Loving the garden and the both of you. Keeping fingers crossed against further frosts
fingers tightly crossed x
Best 75pence I’ll spend this year - thank you 🙏
great! x
the small yellow lily might be a species of Clintonia.
It's an erythronium x
Google is amazing
she is x
Not sure if anyone has offered an answer to the Atlas Cedar with the dieback issue but from the look of the diseased sections it could be Sirococcus blight … the RHS website has info on the issue. Also you were looking for a plant identification for small yellow flowers growing in the undergrowth … from the brief footage it looked to me like DogToothed Violets aka Erythronium. Another plant you need identification for was a pink flowering plant growing in the grass … it looks like a species tulip … not sure which one. The other species tulip Goggle had with the pink and white petals is Tulipa clusiana
you might be right re the cedar - it's a shame as it's been happily growing at its own slow pace for years - we'll see if it recovers but if not... Mum is RUTHLESS! x
I love Googie, please can we have more ❤
yes I'm sure we'll have more - maybe when I next visit in June x
What a beautiful quilt!
isn't it x
Dog tooth violet aka trout lily (the yellow flower)
that's it! x
