A couple of really good techniques to my favorite weapon: Use rolling attacks defensively, opponents get confident to approach when you are kind of low on health and rolling away: exploit that. When opponents roll into you to avoid the first r1 and wait for the second one, do the r1 away from him to try and hit on a backswing rollcatch. It’s tricky to do without manual aiming because you have to unlock but it works. Make sure to roll away if it misses. I have yet to be backstabbed by trying this. WA R2 into R1 is an excellent baiting tool. If they roll away from you and you’re out of their range queue up an R1, they fall for it almost every time. If you are in range of an attack after WA roll away. If you land a rolling attack queue up a delayed R2, they tend to try rolling away immediately so it’s a good roll catcher. This works best with the FUGS because it has the best range and can catch people even if they roll opposite from you and were only barely catchable by your rolling attack. Against small weapons that aren’t straightswords, daggers, or two handing curved swords; blocking two R1s then swinging can catch them in your hyper armor. Pretending you’ll do a rolling attack then doing a normal R1 is good at roll catching. Stomp into reverse R1 is great at throwing people’s rolls off and as a mixup. Running attacks on FUGS have excellent range and do good damage (equivalent to an R1) for a running attack in general. Try running while blocking then stop in place without letting go of block, you can now do a running attack whenever you want. Just use R1 and a running attack will come out. This is useful to trip people up. Overall, reverse backswings are more useful than just at a backstab deterrent, it’s good at tripping up roll timings and mix ups. Now use the FUGS like a master.
Great vid Moose, FUME is one of my favs and as such I've done three videos on it 😁 Good little tip: FUME has Greathammer poise health and damage. If you hit 45.85 armorpoise you can tank greathammer 2HR1s infinitely without staggering as long as you're in active frames. Lots of fun. Also, gold pine bundle is quick and spammable and brings your AR over 730 (from memory), at 50 str. Mighty indeed.
I just fell in love with this weapon . because of it i was able to kill nameless king. I mean after 60 tries i decided to try this and boom first try this sword cut his health like it was nothing.
Personally I think they nerfed it too hard. Like Havel said it should've been brought down to 300 not 260. It's a fucking heavy ass slab of stone/slate. It's *supposed* to hit like a goddamn truck. I understand the nerf I suppose. It's combos that two shot players were spooky but I really wish they would just fix it. It's hard to find a reason to use FUGS when you get similar damage with a Heavy GUGS. At this point in time, the best thing the FUGS has for it is its moveset and range. I'm still bitter about how harsh of a nerf it got and I just wish I could recapture its former glory
You should try a faith-poise build. I had a lot of success using the dragonslayer greataxe + standard damage miracles like stake and arrow and buffs like sacred oath. I also had some fun doing brawls, replacing oath with divine pillars of light and bountiful sunlight. It's been awhile, but I like it was 55 str 50 faith. It wasn't too min-maxed, cause it was on a sl120 deprived character. I think I wore havels legs, havels gauntlets, the antiquated plain garb for fashion souls, no hat, havels ring, ring of favor, first born ring, and i don't remember the last one, it might be wolf's ring.
SteelDash the higher the damage absorption from armor, the higher the reduction from the fixed percentage of the ring. Prisoners chain is good if you you're tight on stats. But strength builds fixed at meta levels are rarely hard pressed for stats.

Fume is great for invasions. In duels I would not infuse the caestus blessed - I know - the 2 hp. In Tournaments it makes more sense - but in duels - most ppl rush to much (nothing to loose). I would rather make a simple, fire, deep or heavy caestus. and wear it in the second slot. not for parry purposes, but you can use the weapon art perseverance and all of the sudden you have a fast fist weapon with high defense. just a few thoughts.. ^^
Hate to break it to you but.... The Greatsword with a heavy infusion is actually better than the Fume on a strength build Edit: Never mind, I just found out that the Fume does strike damage, and the Greatsword does standard damage, and strike is better than normal so yeah lol.
The Splitleaf is actually really strong against Ultra weapons, You just have to use it differently. You can instant roll out of the L1, and you get a small 100dmg if the first windup hits, so you windup once, and reaction roll if they attack. Sure 100dmg per hit is very low, but its entirely safe and unpunishable, so you have confirmed damage against ultra weapons. I barely see anyone using that method though. I'd argue that the Splitleaf is trash against Greatswords, it gets out poised and isn't fast enough to L1 roll.

at the beginning you say its heavier with 25.5 - well that's IS the big advantage FUME has. because their is a hidden multiplier called WEIGHTING. and FUME receives 148.4 weighting from STR. if you get hit with a FUME - that weighting has a huge influence on your balancing (and poise dmg, stamina drain etc...). not talking about stun - I am talking that you lose your balance - and if you get hit a second time (which is almost certain) - and you are still recovery your balance - you receive a supercounter. that means FUME 650 AR (unbuffed) goes up to 910. but not only that. 910 AR means - that you will go down 4-8 defense categories (if you are not a glass canon and already at 10% less dmg taken from flat defense). A tank with high str/vit. takes usually around 330 AR (450 and more for the "middle" class with 135 flat defense and 23% strike absorption). 330 + 40% means 462 dmg - but he takes 512 dmg. because he went down from 30% less damage taken to 17% less damage taken. even with 38% absorption the takes 512 dmg. the only downside is - you can't do this (most of the time) with just a follow up r1. it is too slow. but there is a way to get the supercounter almost every time.... ;) that is one reason why (japanese) invaders have FUME most of the time. its a beast.

Besides, it deals strike damage which generally many armor pieces are weak to, so in practice it takes similar number of hits as the Greatsword(which should be heavy infused btw) to put an opponent down.
the cathedral is strike still has the piercing stab WITH counter potential and the GS itself has the higher damage output overall... when it comes down to it all Fume has is the highest poise breakpoint of any ultra gs and thats about it
Is it just me or are big weapons too strong? they can poise trough anything basically and are usually fast enough if u play it right that its very hard to make use of the inbetween attack delay and even if they miss they still get the stagger if ur close to it. When i watch moose who is pretty damn good at pvp he almost always lose against these big ass weapons when not playing with one himself. so maybe its not just me. Anyone have a tip how to deal with it?
They’re deceptive. I love them, but they aren’t near as good as they look. With practice you can dodge every single attack by sight, and attack in between their poise frames and never worry about them. I’d recommend using a few to get a feel for their weaknesses.
Filip flumsten git gud jk i agree in some ways - fighting even a slightly laggy ultra user is worse than anything, and what annoys me is that the burden of playing well is skewed waaay towards the player not using an ultra weapon. Making a mistake means getting hit once, which almost always means getting hit twice and that's over half your healthbar gone because you slipped up one time. Meanwhile they have way more chances to mess up because a two-hit true combo from most anything else is much less punishing. Still, i've seen players absolutely obliterate ultra users w straight swords and quicker weapons so i guess the answer really is git gud. And hope your opponent isn't playing from the other side of the world.
Considering how much more it weighs and thus the (slightly) higher stamina consumption I'd still say it's overshadowed by Greatsword. HOWEVER it does have that unique stomp and you actually get more absorption during the first frames of it than normal blocking. And the stomp can't be guardbroken. Don't get me wrong I love the fume. It's been my fav weapon since ds2, I don't enjoy saying there's pretty much no legit reason to use it over the Greatsword. Plus that thrust does strike damage.
I won't disagree at all. Still FUGS gives you a nice happy feeling when you charge R2 a boss for over 1200 damage. Greatsword just doesn't give that to you :)
Bashkuch :3 The FUGS has a superior moveset, deals more damage against most armor setups bc strike damage, has more range, and has great hammer poise health. The biggest downside is the weight.
Havel the Rock have you actually tested the damage difference? How big is the difference between two R1 combos? Does the strike damage actually outweigh the 30ish extra ar? And I mean the weight IS a pretty huge downside.. trading is key with ultra weapons and good armour makes a real difference here. About the better moveset... That's subjective I guess. I find the rolling R1 to be of more use but I still prefer the R2s on the greatsword. Would love to hear more about that damage difference because if it's significant enough that would actually make a pretty good case.

For 1v1 invasions you can do anything. Gank spanking is only parries

Is it just me or are big weapons too strong? they can poise trough anything basically and are usually fast enough if u play it right that its very hard to make use of the inbetween attack delay and even if they miss they still get the stagger if ur close to it. When i watch moose who is pretty damn good at pvp he almost always lose against these big ass weapons when not playing with one himself. so maybe its not just me. Anyone have a tip how to deal with it?
They’re deceptive. I love them, but they aren’t near as good as they look.
With practice you can dodge every single attack by sight, and attack in between their poise frames and never worry about them. I’d recommend using a few to get a feel for their weaknesses.

jk i agree in some ways - fighting even a slightly laggy ultra user is worse than anything, and what annoys me is that the burden of playing well is skewed waaay towards the player not using an ultra weapon. Making a mistake means getting hit once, which almost always means getting hit twice and that's over half your healthbar gone because you slipped up one time. Meanwhile they have way more chances to mess up because a two-hit true combo from most anything else is much less punishing.
Still, i've seen players absolutely obliterate ultra users w straight swords and quicker weapons so i guess the answer really is git gud. And hope your opponent isn't playing from the other side of the world.

Don't ever take your eyes off the great weapon, and get something fast to attack from the sides or back. Do that and you win.
Or get a bigger weapon. Perseverance can make the victory.
Know your spacing.
Careful with that thing, you're gonna hurt someone one day.
It doesn't do more damage
The heavy infused greatsword has the highest physical damage of all ultra greatswords with 66 strength.
FUGS does strike damage and so it makes up for that 30 AR penalty. Plus that poke is still deadly
Considering how much more it weighs and thus the (slightly) higher stamina consumption I'd still say it's overshadowed by Greatsword. HOWEVER it does have that unique stomp and you actually get more absorption during the first frames of it than normal blocking. And the stomp can't be guardbroken. Don't get me wrong I love the fume. It's been my fav weapon since ds2, I don't enjoy saying there's pretty much no legit reason to use it over the Greatsword. Plus that thrust does strike damage.
I won't disagree at all. Still FUGS gives you a nice happy feeling when you charge R2 a boss for over 1200 damage. Greatsword just doesn't give that to you :)
Bashkuch :3 The FUGS has a superior moveset, deals more damage against most armor setups bc strike damage, has more range, and has great hammer poise health. The biggest downside is the weight.
Havel the Rock have you actually tested the damage difference? How big is the difference between two R1 combos? Does the strike damage actually outweigh the 30ish extra ar? And I mean the weight IS a pretty huge downside.. trading is key with ultra weapons and good armour makes a real difference here. About the better moveset... That's subjective I guess. I find the rolling R1 to be of more use but I still prefer the R2s on the greatsword.
Would love to hear more about that damage difference because if it's significant enough that would actually make a pretty good case.
