  • 2004 dakota engine into a 2003 ram 1500. only difference was the passenger side exhaust manifold , oil pan , clutch fan , and of course your engine mounts. No ac discharged or power steering removed from the vehicle. thanks for watching.

    The absolute #1 engine removal video I've seen on youtube.
    I have a 2000 dakota 4.7, picked it up for 650 in need of an engine and I didn't know where to even start. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, I do mobile mechanic work in the summer as a side job so I know the odds and ins somewhat well, but I ain't NEVER pulled no motor. However the way I've thought myself over the years is just by biting off wayy more than I can chew, and make myself figure it out (be it through youtube, forums, haynes, etc.) Well I've absolutely never had the balls to pull an engine and every other time I was faced with the need to replace one I just opted to sell the vehicle. Like a Pu**y.
    Well I saw the ad for the dodge and couldn't pass it up, started scouring the internet for how to's and just like every other time i need to learn something... And every other time its crappy videos with lots of time lapses from far away angles and very little interruption for small details or even big details. Your video is not that. This is the most detailed, in depth, down and dirty, shove that camera in there to get the bolt in the frame, just all around, end to end bad ass engine pull video on youtube.
    Amazing job. I request the highest of fives from you good sir. And from the bottom of my heart thank you for spending the time to make the video so idiots like me can get good deals on trucks

    I just pulled a 4.7L out of a Jeep today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have the new one put in. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I must have watched every video (and read a ton of forums) specifically about pulling this engine out a jeep that is on youtube. Even with that, I learned more by watching you swap out this Ram than I did from any of the jeep specific videos.
    What, I believe, made your video so much more helpful even though I was dealing with a completely different engine bay is that no detail was too small for you to cover. You covered nearly every bolt, how to get to them, and how to deal with them when they inevitably don't do anything you want them to. This was incredibly valuable to someone doing this alone. You covered disconnecting from the transmission very well. Stupidly, most other videos cover everything but this in detail, even though it seems to be the most difficult part of the operation. It was also helpful to see what you used to hoist the engine with. I noticed you didn't have the lifting studs, or the bracket that Chrysler claims is the only way to do it. I just wanted to say thanks! Even though is was for a different vehicle some of the information you put out here made it possible for me to successfully remove my 4.7 from my Grand Cherokee. Thanks again!

    What a wonderful detailed video. Thank you for taking the time and effort. It's much appreciated! I hope you make more detailed videos because this really will help people. I have 1 question for give me if it sounds foolish. Why did you have to take the bolts off the new motor torque converter and put them back on when trying to mate the motor with the transmission? Would it have been easier to do it outside? Thanks for the info. I'm subscribing!!

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The transmission could be pulled out with the engine , some people will remove it that way. The torque converter needs seated in the transmission before it can mate up to the flex plate. If the engine is locked up then it can be removed by pulling it out , however this is a last resort and risk damage to the torque converter seal. Also this is a one way street as it will not simply push back into the transmission. Great question and thank you for watching.

    I was thinking rebuild vs buying a replacement so that there wouldn't be the other vehicles issues, no?

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A rebuild is a great option , it can get costly. You would want to have a shop go through the cylinder heads , bore the cylinders and check the crank while they are at it. Then you just need a decent rebuild kit , once the shop work is done and the piston sizes , crank bearing sizes have been determined. Seems like the last time I priced everything out the reman or rebuilt engines were about the same at around 2500. The cheapest route may be finding a used engine but then again nothing beats a rebuilt engine with zero miles. Anyways best of luck on whatever you decide , the prices I have will vary from place to place and labor cost may be cheaper in your area for the machine shop work. Thank you for watching.

      Its a little more difficult getting to the motor mounts and 4x4 bracket etc. , but with the rams they have alot of room to work so it should not be too bad. The way the fronts come off of the rams is a nice feature and clears all kinds of room to work. Best of luck on your project and thanks for watching

    for those that don't stay by the time you get back to the impact wrench I used to put some cardboard in the socket and tap it on good, because that is very annoying when it falls off LOL I just got an 02 Ram 1500 says 5.7 HEMI on the fenders the Vin says its a 5.9 I am looking trying to Identify engines at this moment and came across your Mine has 8 spark plugs but most videos i find have 16 plugs, I'm happy with 8 the plugs I have LOL looks like your engine, where is the id number on the Engine?

      The motor mounts , the oil pan was different , the brace between the pan and transmission , the holes needed chased with a tap because they are not used on a dakota engine , the exhaust manifolds I swapped best I remember. Nothing but minor differences swapping accessories. Thanks for watching.

      You really need a wrecked doner truck to make things easier. I believe the transmission may work but not sure , however you need the harness, ecm , mounts, manifolds . I am sure there are a lot of little things but that is the main components. Thanks for watching.

      They are good engines , not as good as the 5.7l hemi by no means but get the job done. I have a 2002 with over 220k on it . I think it how they are taken care of for the most part. The weak point is their head gaskets . With the price of the used 4.7l a reman or rebuild would be a far better option. Thanks for the feedback.

    • @s33therfan
      @s33therfan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is really hard to say. I will say that head replacement would be the cheaper route to start with, and from there if unsuccessful , a total rebuild. I know these engines 4.7 or 5.7 are rediculous expensive. Best of luck and hope all goes smoothly. Thanks for watching.
