Frances (Elizabeth Earl) and Elsie (Florence Hoath) finish the doll house to show the fairies they are sorry for telling their secret.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Two young girls who believe that fairies are real attempt to prove it to the world in this drama based on actual events. In 1917, there is little to be happy about in the Wright household in West Yorkshire, England. Polly (Phoebe Nicholls) and her 12-year-old daughter Elsie (Florence Hoath) are still grieving over the death of Elsie's younger brother, and Polly's niece Frances (Elizabeth Earl) has come to stay with them after her father was declared missing in action during World War I. Polly longs for some sort of proof that there is a life beyond our own, while the two girls ardently believe in fairies and enthusiastically study legend and lore. One day, Elsie and Frances produce photographs of fairies that they claim were playing in their garden; Polly believes that they are real, and soon the snapshots attract international attention. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Peter O'Toole), author of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries and a confirmed spiritualist, declares the photos "as genuine as the King's beard," while illusionist Harry Houdini (Harvey Keitel), who has devoted much time and energy to exposing phony mediums and psychics, takes a more skeptical view. While Fairy Tale: A True Story presents the appearance of the fairies as fact, analysis of the photographs proved them to be fakes (especially after the same fairies were discovered as illustrations in a children's book published before the photos were taken). The real-life Elsie Wright admitted late in life that the fairy photos were a hoax performed as a "little joke" and that she was always surprised that so many people believed them.

This fairy house is utterly enchanting. When making your own, try using those tiny peel off glue dots to hold pieces in place until your regular glue dries. It's like having an extra pair of hands.
I remember making a fairy house when I little kid, out of card board,grass and popsicles. My dad stepped on it and I thought he killed fairies. 😂😢
Awww☹️😂 I made a fairy house with my grandpa out of cardboard and I had it for YEARS. It ended up getting ruined outside and we had to throw it out😭
Unfortunately, he probably did. Fairies exist in our realm based on the belief of the one that brought them forth. On a positive note, their spirit returns to their realm unharmed as a new blossom. Did you ever try to bait them back?

I think this was the first movie I ever saw in theatres (almost 4 yrs old). My only memories I have of it are vague images of a river/waterfall in the forest - probably this scene.
This movie made me believe in the fairies ❤ and I still do to this day at age 31! I saw them as a kid and a teenager and I'll never forget what I saw

@@deepayne1175 I was over at my friend's house one time and I saw a fairy in a white dress with white wings fly down his hallway...I was in shock and I told him "I just saw a fairy in your house!" He said that he believes in them but he's never seen them. I used to see pink and red orbs too...but most of the fairies I saw were dressed in all white for some reason

@@deepayne1175 one occasion, I was 8yrs old and sat in the dining room eating dinner at the table with my cousin and brother (a non-believer).. all of a sudden, there was a horde of about 50 fairies walking along the fireplace being led by what looked like a flying horse and carriage. This went on for about 2minutes.. then they faded away. We were all watching in awe and couldn't believe what we witnessed. My brother til this day still remembers what he saw and still believes (but doesn't like to admit it)... 😔
On another occasion, I had made this dairy house about 6 months prior to when this happened.. I was probably 10yrs old when this happened. I had a secret notebook (the one you'd have as a kid with a lock and key), I use to write in there on a daily basis and it was called my diary. . through each day, I'd write and I would write something to one of the fairies I saw.. I will always remember waking up and looking inside to find what looked like 'SCRIBBLES'.. I knew I hadn't done that and my diary had been locked.. when I looked really close, I could make out that the scribble was intact lettering.. so I asked my mum for a magnify glass... And omg I still cannot believe it til this day... I literally recieved a note back from one of the fairies. It was so small that the writing just looked like scribbles and had to be read with a magnify glass.. it read something like "Dear Cara, I am the fairy snowbell who lives in the back of your garden, with many of the other fairies you saw before... We really enjoy your garden, and have great fun in the summertime. But my favourite has to be the winter time. I like playing on the ice". I will never ever forget the experiences and encounters I made. I still have this letter in a keepsake box, and I will show my kids this one day hoping they become strong believers too. 💕🧚🏼♀️🧚🏻🧚🏾♂️
This is a beautiful story. I myself have seen 4 fairies in my adult life and many was I was a child.

i always thought it was interesting that in real life, Harry Houdini visited such girls, just like he visited fortune tellers, but to expose them.
Harry exposed mediums that were cheating those who had lost loved ones in the war. Harry never denied the existence of faeries.

Very nicely done! I just got done also watching some real fairies videos on TH-cam. By the World Fairy Hunters who show real live fairies that all earth should see. They made books and a calendar for all to believe in fairies!
I’ve been trying to make a recreation of the fairy house the it’s so amazingly detailed and daunting , might take me half a year to make, seeing as how I barely have any supplies and might have to use things I just don’t across

A perfect film, I love it.
It took me to get to the age of my mid forties before I saw something others and myself would've previously laughed at. Obviously the photos were faked as late on in life were confessed, but I wouldn't mock anyone's claims about pretty much anything now.

I love this movie & it inspired me to make a fairy trail on my property!
Its amazing rediscovering this film because of a personal memory me and my family have. Back in the 90s my dad ran a private hire bus company here in York and it was his company that transported the film crew and some of the actors to all the filming locations around Yorkshire. When dad got paid for the job they also gave him tickets for my whole family to be at the premiere!!!!! It was amazing!!! All of the actors were there including Peter O'toole and Paul McCan! I remember the two girls and the director talking at the front about the production and how delighted they were with the film. Still to this day I can't quite believe it!
