imo most of them are not creatures but disguises in scoobydoo style. some freak would put mask and pillage people at night and suddenly it becomes a folkloric creature
I like how every monster is based on local factors affecting each particular culture. Like eastern cultures depict their monsters as mystical beings with different colors and supernatural powers, having average built; While western or tundra based regions depict monsters as some beings who reside in forest and hunt during the nights without any magical prowess and relying on brute strength resembling supersized human-animal mix breed.
Inaccuracy: Zhu Bajie is described as a “demon,” but he’s got his own unique backstory as one of the *protagonists* of Journey to the West. You see, Zhu Bajie was once a good-looking and rather high-ranking official in Heaven. One day, the guy got drunk and molested *Chang’e*, who was kind of a big shot in Heaven. The offense was enough to get Bajie banished from Heaven and was given a hideous, pig-like appearance. He is given a chance at redemption by the bodhisattva Guanyin. She tells him that he must protect and aid Tang Sanzang on his titular journey to the West.

Behemoth in Hebrew just means “animals”. It appears in one place poetically as a huge beast, and there are a few parables about it, but imagine it more like a bull than Predator or whatever that is. One day Basat has had enough of this because Tepegöz killed his brother too. Basat goes into the forest and stabs him in the eye with a very hot iron. That was a summary from one of the stories. Some says Tepegöz only wanted love but nobody loved him cause he was ugly so he decided to eat them all.

In Hindu mythology, Raksha literally means monster. 4 groups of humanoid sentient-sapient beings are categorised. Others too exist like Vanars (like Neanderthals). But, I'm mentioning the main 4s. 1. Devas. They have divinity and most powerful. They're demigods. Elementary gods. 2. Asuras. They're the counterpart of Devas. They lack divinity but are very intelligent and strong. They're often depicted fighting with Devas to conquer swarglok (the abode of Devas) 3. Humans. No explanation needed. 4. Rakshas. They're the Lowest beings and don't have morality or much intelligence. For ex- Evil Spirits of the jungle, basically monsters etc.

Zhu Bajie is very adorable for Chinese. He used to be a general of the God Realm. One day, he was demoted to a monster because he was drunk and molested Chang'e. Later, influenced by the Tang monk, he followed him to Western Regions to obtain Buddhist scriptures. He is liked by many people because of his funny personality.
Bugbear... German? Wait a minute. I am German. I have never heard of a bugbear as a German creature or something that looks like the thing in the video. The English Wikipedia translates the bugbear as a goblin, which is certainly something different and also common in other European cultures, the German Wikipedia translates it to a "Schrat" a.k.a. "Waldschrat". The last one is better described as a forest ghost, which brings nightmares and looks like a very old man. Imagine the character Radagast from Lord of the rings and you have the picture of a "Waldschrat". But that thing in the video is certainly something a modern artist came up with. Anybody who is watching this video. Don't take this "eductation" too serious. It's bad.
Yeah, the bugbear surprised me as well. At first, I thought that they meant Kobolds but the description didn't fit them at all. Maybe Nachtkrapp would fit the bill? They also got Leshy and Rakshasa wrong.
I'm a Hindu and I wanna say that Rakshasa is not a "Demon". Rakshasa is word used to describe " One with demonic mindset" or "Synonym of word Demon". It is same as someone saying that "Demon" is a type of Rakshas in English Culture.
'Wendigo' comes from my culture - the Anishinaabe (Ojibway) as well as other Algonquin peoples. It is pronounced "ween-dig-oh" and is a giant winter cannibal monster/spirit in our legends.

In Mexica mythology, there is a creature called Yohualtepuztli (Night Axe). A giant human body with no head and an opening in its chest that exposed its heart. When the monster opens and closes its chest, it sounds like an axe chopping wood. It was Tezcatlipoca's method of testing the bravery of the people who walked alone at night, who had to remove the monster's heart to be rewarded.

4 groups of humanoid sentient-sapient beings are categorised. Others too exist like Vanars (like Neanderthals). But, I'm mentioning the main 4s.

2. Asuras. They're the counterpart of Devas. They lack divinity but are very intelligent and strong. They're often depicted fighting with Devas to conquer swarglok (the abode of Devas)
3. Humans. No explanation needed.
4. Rakshas. They're the Lowest beings and don't have morality or much intelligence. For ex- Evil Spirits of the jungle, basically monsters etc.

Imagine the character Radagast from Lord of the rings and you have the picture of a "Waldschrat". But that thing in the video is certainly something a modern artist came up with.

As an Australian, I would say that the Bunyip is a more famous mythical beast
Yowie lurks in the bush while Bunyip lurks in the creeks and billabongs
@@ecowanderer6099 What is billabong? Is not it a clothing brand? 😅
